AoC=awesome graphics no content, WAR is the opposite (personally WAR graphics are good enough for me).

If you want a good game you gota look past graphics & view points

I told him to read my post because i said I didn't like the AOC style graphics, he didn't read it and went along saying, " Go play AOC" I do not want to play AoC.

I for one am happy I never bought AoC.

The game looked good and all. But it was enough to watch my brother-in-law play 4 hours and see how lame the gameplay was.

That said I'll be in WAR from the OB! weeeee!

I agree that the graphics from posted screenshots and vids look very simplistic, but surely that'd a good thing?

They arn't BAD graphics, they just arn't amazing graphics. So it's obvious that the team have worked more on content than looks. Unlike Funcom who worked on Graphics over content for AoC, resulting in a VERY dull game with lots of content holes in it.

It's all about lag.

Lag is why the graphics are simpler than say AoC's.

That's why all the toons in WAR look alike.

It's all to reduce lag.

That way we can have battles with 200 player characters on screen.

Textures look very unmeshed and out of place a lot, and the view distance isn't the greatest. I mean, if your going to have bad graphics, at least make the view distance decent. I actually enjoy backround scenary.

 

All i wish is that they could keep up with 2008, maybe even 7 graphics, and not go for the old, poorly textured graphics plan WoW had. I'm sure there was one way you could figure out that many people can play and still have the game look good.

 

Looking at a game that could have looked the same in 2004-6 does not impress me. Use the new software people! I don't mean Age of Conan software because even their graphics get tiring to look at, but at least something decent enough to WANT to look at.

I have the same issues as well but still ordered the game as I am massive fan of the table top game.  However my 2 concerns are the graphics will be a big dissapointment after AoC and I wonder if the combat will be lob sided for Chaos and will the initial excitement of RvR wear off like control point combat in Tabula Rasa?  Either way I will play and find out myself.

Yeah at this stage you either like the game or you don't.  I find it lots of fun from preview weekend.  I thought the graphics were good.  Some elements need fixing which they are on (like CTD issue).  I turn my graphics down for PvP anyways especially for large scale fights.

I found the change of the cities was good because it concentrates everyone in one front for a big massive battle in fortresses which is how it should be.  I don't like unfinished useless classes (aka DAOC Paladin on release) which would be subpar so I liked the class cut.  Kudos to Mythic for having the courage to pull those of those 2 necessary cuts off.

When I was 6 the only video game on offer was that tennis game on a black TV screen and a vertical line to control to hit a ball.

Great gameplay will overcome graphics every time so judging a mmog on the basis of promo videos, screenshots and hype will never do

if you want to keep people coming back for more and convince investors you know what you are doing gameplay is king.

Well said and fully seconded. Also the reason why many people are wowheads for life.

AoC got me licking the scantily dressed and snowy mountain topped pixels of my screen, LOTRO had me shed tears of emoness when traveling through the Trollshaws and entering Rivendel at sunset. But the latter was lacking pvp and the former lacked too much to mention. I'll trade in eye candy for fun gameplay and true immersion any day of the week.

Though I secretly hope that Mythic will have somehing up their sleeve in the lighting / world texture departments to please the hell out of us shortly after release.

The devs did, in fact, disable most graphical options for the beta testers.  Most of the screenshots you see are not remotely as good as they could be for that reason.

Also, judging a game's look by seeing it in pictures is kind of silly.  You ought to see it move.

When it comes down to it, I'm glad you're not around.  Folks with a decent idea of what makes a good game are going to come to WAR like crazy, I'm reasonably certain.  I try not to be a total WARhead, but since playing like mad in beta I'm really jazzed for release. 

Does it look like WoW?  No.  Are the styles remotely similar?  Not really.  Is everything covered over with so many layers of shaders that your computer will scream to a halt whenever you get in a big RvR battle a'la Age of Conan?  Absolutely not.  It's good-looking, it feels good to play, it's fun, and you're missing out.  Good riddance to bad rubbish, judging a game entirely on how it looks.  You ought to be ashamed of yourself, OP.
