You basically evaluate the game exactly like I did: It just is not fun.

Although I could care less about the people actually  involved in the making of this game, lots of people on this forum here really seem to hate them (or are as close to disappointment that it borders to hate), wich in my opinion goes a bit far.

Also, you said you would e-mail this to the funcom staff, but do you really think it will be read? I doubt it, it is far to insulting to someone who is involved.

I would not recommend to read this to people who still like playing Age of Conan.

I was joking about sending it to all the devs, though I did fire an email off to the Funcom CEO. Not that he'll read it or reply, but who knows? :)

I flame and troll AOC forums all the time, why people ask,  because I'm pissed off for getting lied to and spending 50 bucks on a lie. Hell if someone came up and took 50 bucks from you, lied and said they didn't, then said you should be happy they took your 50 bucks and it was a good thing they did, wouldn't you be pissed? So rock on, Failcom FTL, o and they announced a new MMO, Secret World, ROFLMAO, like we will line up for that POS, I hope Failcom the whole company dies and burns in hell :)  Anyway nice job on the post.

The most disappointing thing about this entire game is that this game was "content complete" and ready to launch in October 2006.  Funcom witnessed the backlash that gamers around the globe had against Sigil and Vanguard:SOH had from a launch with a game that was clearly, not ready for prime time.  Yet, Funcom says they had no choice but to launch when they did.  My question is, if just two months prior to the Funcom launch you get $37 million dollars in funding, why did you not take that money and get the game "right" before launch? 

The forums were filled with PvE haters and post after post of how this was going to be THE elite "PVP" game on the market and we now see how it turned out.  I'm a RP-PVE fan and I feel that the PvE player got the shaft with this game with regards to the lack of support from fellow gamers and Funcom.  Yet, even I feel extremely sorry for the PvP crowd because they really got boned over regarding PvP in AoC.

The AoC management team failed and if Funcom gives the the keys to another project, then I feel Funcom deserves to crash and burn.  On the bright side, there is always SoE always ready to swoop in and buy the pieces of what should have been a great game.  At least SoE is making an effort with regards to Vanguard to turn it into a decent game.

I tried to give Funcom a chance & stay optimistic about the game for the first couple of months as they seemed to be candid about many issues & seemed sincere about addressing them.

Even as an 'Ultra Casual' player though, my patience started to run out about a month ago & now I can barely manage the enthusiasm to log in while I wait for my initial three month subscription to run out.

I think it's a shame because the game had great potential, but they just seem to have just thrown it away.

I find that blog to be spot on in what AoC is like at the moment....

Very funny, and very accurate.

I played the game for about 3 weeks.  I found it to be as the OP described, basically boring, uninspired, and unaddictive.  However, reading negative things about the game has turned out to be much more fun and addictive then the game ever was.  Sad but true.

That was a really good and funny review of what AoC and Funcom is like.

I would vote for AoC as most boring and buggy attempt at an MMO for 2008 though.

You know things are rough when the a top executive of the company sells almost 19% of his shares in the company he works for.  Do you honestly think someone isn't worried about the company?  400,000 shares is only just over 1.2 million dollars US.  You don't see Bill Gates selling off 20% of his ownership in Microsoft when a product goes bad.

We'll see anyone with 1% stake in the company selling off their stock being reported on Funcom's website.  It is great they have to report this sort of thing because they are a publically traded company.  Too bad we can't see all employee sell offs.  Truth be told, I bet most of the employees cashed out and only have stock options left.  Best for them to cash out while they can. 

Nice job of writing and kind of funny; however, you were way off the mark on alot of what was written. Having over 400,000 players does not make an MMORPG dead. Even if it was only 200,000 it would still be considered successful.

As far as the game itself... the combat is very fun and the game as a whole is very fun. I think when the PVP patch is released next week and the damage gems are fixed (should happen at the same time) the 400,000 current subscribers will start playing more frequently.

I wonder how many of the people that no longer play tried the game and  realized thier computers couldn't handle the graphics? When you make a game like AOC that pushes hardware harder then any MMORPG that came before it, you are going to have alot of people that really don't have machines that can even play it, or play it well enough to be enjoyable. This is the risk you take when you make a game like AOC.

It would appear that knocking AOC is the cool thing to do right now, but I have played almost every single PTP MMORPG game released going back to Meridian 59 and in my opinion AOC is better then any of them.

Now, I haven't tried WAR yet, and it might really be a great game but many people are already attacking it and saying it sucks (graphics, combat, PVP, PVE, bugs, crashes, etc...) and the game isn't even out yet. I can almost guarentee that the hate that is directed towards AOC is going to soon be directed at WAR starting mid to late September (I mean it is already happening) .

Alot of the MMORPG players that currently play some other MMORPG (LOTRO, WOW, EQ etc) are just looking for a reason to tear a new MMORPG game apart (I guess it is fear that the new game will take away some of thier friends or playerbase). And the thing is, finding something you don't like about a game is easy to do if you really look hard enough.

AOC is doing much better then alot of haters would have you believe. It is a fun game, and to me it is the best MMORPG on the market right now. It does need some things fixed like gems and some memory leaks. But taken as a whole instead of as parts the game is great.

My advice to anyone who plans to play WAR :  if you like the game try to avoid the forums. WAR may be the best MMORPG ever made, but the haters are going to rip that game apart no matter how good it is.

Meh.. .He's one of AoC's more avid defenders. Not raving fanboy-like... as he will point out the game's flaws, but is mostly pretty mellow about it.

He's not like the other more "passionate supporters" (gotta love euphemisms) who will insist the game is perfect and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it no matter what happens.

IK's just more - as in *a lot* more - willing to look past their BS than most. And that's not really a bad thing... Hey if ya can enjoy the game despite the ongoing problems... more power to ya, I say.

But anyway, it doesn't entirely surprise me that his would be a dissenting post, given the nature of it.

I'm sure we'll see the real characters show up before long. Then you'll really get a light show.

Ah Protus, what a douche.  AoC's biggest fanboy has to have something to say about everything. I swear that guy works for Funcom.

Anyway, great read thanks for writing this. Maybe somebody in the MMO industry will get the clue after the horrible failure of this game.

Ya this game was worse than swg's NGE.. Atleast swg had some good years.. This game flopped tits up in 3 months.. Theres no 400k playing This game. My friend tells me theres 5 level 80s left on his server that play.. WTF is up with that?
