It has recently been brought up on the offical boards however for you people who don't visit those boards.. Guns in Darkfall yes or no? Obviously not like the modern guns but more of the fantasy type you see in games these days. Magically powered because there is no gunpowder. Personally I would say yes but keep the dwarven race specific. |

no thanks oO'. The magic powerd cannons I can deal with but ima pass on the guns. Most Fantasy books and movie's steer clear from guns as do the fantasy centerd games. The siege weapons depicted in the vid and the ship cannons are about as close to branching into the futuristic as I want to see DF go. |

Games are typically anachronistic in their approach to arms and armor. Hand cannons coincide with plate armor historically in european usage. But modelling the use of hand cannons is a lot of work for little gain. Players don't want a weapon that is heavy, cumbersome, noisy, slow, inaccurate, and liable to blow their character up when firing. The gain isn't worth the work in the opinion of most developers. Also, players expect to have plate armor and two-handed swords because literature and media protray these as common elements of the fantasy genre. Hand cannon and arquebus are less expected even though contemporary because they are less commonly protrayed in the fiction of the genre. Cannon, especially if certain realities of medieval 'refining' techniques are ignored, are easier to model than torsion engines or trebuchets, especially for naval warfare. So it is much more likely for game designers to include them. |

First of, no to guns. Second of, why are the Warhulks futuristic? I think they're pretty much a basic step in weapon technology in a world that features magic. The only real difference between Warhulks and flying platforms that transport you around in magical cities is that the Warhulks are platforms with weapons attached. It would be "unrealistic" if they couldn't make things hover/levitate with magic. And Warhulks are just that, metall platforms made to hover with magic. And as far as I remember, noone complained about guns, steam-engines, underground train-stations and literal tanks in Warcraft. I'd still prefer no cannons and flamethrowers in DF though. |

i think cannons are fine. the flamethrowers seemed a little over the top, but if a magical elf can spew fire from his fingertips, i suppose a magical flying hover tank should be able to shoot flames... realistically speaking of course. guns i wouldn't have a huge problem with, but there needs to be some sort of tradeoff to using guns over using a bow/crossbow. i would imagine guns would be the most powerful ranged weapon, which means they need to be balanced, possibly by making them take longer to reload than a bow and less accurate than a crossbow. |

Guns.... I've played Ragnarok Online on and off for about 4 years now. I've always been in love with archers/hunters/snipers (bow class characters). As soon as they added "Gunslinger" as a class.. I about threw up in my mouth. I don't know why to be honest, but i hate the thought of guns in MMO's. I really don't even like the idea of the magic based cannons etc. So I'm against adding guns to DFO. |

I am only for guns if they are really really slow, and innaccurate, but if they hit thier target they cause massive damage. Crossbows should be about twice as fast as a gun, and no accuracy penalty, and deal more damage than a bow. Bows should be about twice as fast as a crossbow, with no accuracy penalty, and deal slightly less damage than crossbow. I hope they don't add stupid cross-airs for ranged weapons. Make it so when you aim your weapon you have to use your memory from the position of your bow/xbow/gun to the position of your target.

I agree with no guns, part of the allure of Fantasy mmorpg versus FPS is no guns. I wouldn't like to even see a magic cannon no matter how cumbersome to use etc. What would be that point unless you had forever to set up and no one trying to kill you while you wrestle with this big cumersome weapon? |

How about repeat crossbows? Don't know if you can run it? |

Im for guns, and here is why. Don't think of them as guns, but as Magic Wands, designed to compensate for a characters lack in magic. Expensive to produce. and the power crystals used for ammo, are difficult to make. and
most importantly and Ebberron its also silly to think just because a world has magic automatically means its locked in a perpetual dark-age. |

They sucked in wow. They sucked in Fable II. They will suck in Darkfall. The world of Darkfall isn't a paralell world of earth or any crap like that, it's a whole other universe. I distatefully watched the ''sieges fortress'' machina in the video that came out a few months ago, and I think it's pretty good the way it is, without guns. Plus, a bullet goes much faster than an arrow or a bolt, it hurts much more. |

Guns are so far past not needed in this game it isnt funny. The game already has many great aspects, no need to ruin it with the promise of guns... |

Wow some of the anger here is intense. :)
In the case of Darkfall I do not see the case being made for guns. Unless someone can point out to me in the world Lore where they would have come from and how they would get ammo?
However, I do kind of like the idea someone had about magic guns. This might be splitting hairs but an itme that shoots a limited or unlimited amount of projectiles (charges?) that the player can use for distance would be interesting.
In the end I do not see it making a huge difference one way or the other. From what the dev's have described for aiming and firing distance attacks (spells, bows, etc) it will not be simply a button mash. I personally do not see guns being necessary in this particular case though.

I'd love to see those 18th century blunderbusses in the game. As long as they're well balanced, sounds great!
