There are like a ZILLION of artistic styles,   so game developpers can chose betwen... TWO, because people is soo ignorant, than will reject anything else.  Maybe 3 styles, if you accept Darwinia retro 8 bits style as another one.

Realistic graphics is like EPIC FAIL, because to have these graphics, the game result on a empty shell..  and most people play these games (at release) at  30 FPS.

I say, lets accept a borad palette of styles. Lets see what artist can create. Don't have stupid preconceptions against style X, or style Y.

Even Realistic somewhat worked for AoC. :/

Agreed...you cant go too graphic heavy if you're going to be PVP based....Lag has to be minimal and you can't have graphics and rendering slow down the gameplay.....

Games Workshop has spent literally decades developing a certain look, style and IP for Warhammer.  To say it's a clone of WoW is putting the cart before the horse.  The Warhammer IP just never had been pushed into an MMO directly before.

Personally, I think WAR really nails the look and feel of Warhammer.  It's exaggerated, but not to much so, and has a sort of dismalness to it that drives home that it really is a world on the verge of falling into darkness.

Looking at both of their concept arts and CGI videos I think Warcraft and Warhammer look nothing alike and I think Blizzard have taken more from asia than Warhammer in terms of looks.

Hmm strange when i see gameplay movie's WAR first thing i think is it a WoW gameplay movie am i at wrong game movies, but no its realy WAR.

They look the same to me, but im not realy a fan of both.

That dont mean you should not play it if you like it go for it have fun.

Some like cartoony, some dont, simple as that.

Look at this following pics and you tell me if they look the same. The WAR pic is my toon:

Hell I even showed a picture of a "similiar axe." Now tell me....do they look similiar? Hmm?

could be:

a) compression in self made vids

b) older beta or alpha footage (every vid before preview weekend is based on older graphics which look much more like WoW)

c) size / resolution of vid. -> seriously, and I am not kidding here, the landcape has some cartoony feel to it still, but the character models look as detailed as AoC. I have played both and at 1920x1200, which is easily doable in WAR, you see such an amazing amount of detail on armor and weapons.

chars feel much more diverse and detailed than in AoC. but NOT the environment. I will look for some high rez vid and post the link here, so you can see how it really looks with little compression.

Do they look different?  Sure.  I'm not about to say they're identical, that would be fallacy.

Derivative art isn't just about making 2 things look different.  I could post a pic of, say, an axe from a game like EQ compared to WoW and WAR, and you could clearly note that it is non-derivative.

The stylings go beyond the minutea into the overall design.  Look at the exaggerated armor on both, then compare to a game that looks at a more "realistic" approach to the design.  You won't see shoulder armor that dwarfs the head of the user.

The axes too, both are axes what would weigh about a bazillion pounds in real life and be completely unuseable... compared to the more realistic proportions within a different MMO, such as AC, EQ, UO, etc.

Do they look similar?  Yes, in the scope that they are both massively exaggerated and move more into art than realism in their basic design.  I had already mentioned that WoW's graphics evolved into the more fantastical, yet still maintained the fit and form of the Warhammer "look".  The fact remains that WoW is derivative.  No, it's not a bad thing that it is, most fantasy is derivative in some form, but you gotta look beyond the obvious differences in color or design to see the point I was making, that the overall *style* is derivative.  (and was much closer to the Warhammer design in older games as well)

"Owned"?  Hardly.

well, this guy is in full plate. I have actually seen a full platemail in reality and it is not so much different except the spikes.

it looks like a super strong (and these mutated bastards are super strong) badass could wear that.

WoW armor looks like the char is not wearing anything, like it is of no material or part of his body with no metal properties.

look at my above posted pic of the high elf.

despite no high rez textures in game at the time of this screenshot, it looks realistical

tell me this elf  and his armor look anything like WoW

The 12 pound sword or the winged helm?  Again, they're not identical, WoW's style is *derivative*.  All I'm saying is Warhammer created an art style, Blizzard took the ball and ran with it.

from wikipedia:

Longswords have lengthy cruciform hilts with grips over some 15 cm (6 in) in length (providing room for two hands), straight double-edged blades often over 90 cm (35 in) in length, and weigh typically between 1.2 and 1.4 kg (2½ to 3 lb), with light specimens just below 1 kg (2 lb), and heavy specimens just above 2 kg (4½ lb).[1]

even 2 hand swords are much lighter than people would assume. e.g. a katana weight about the same as a longsword.

yes. derivative. true. but the difference between that high elf or that chosen and the WoW toon of undefinable gender and armor material is a farcry from what you see on your screen in WAR.

so far that I suggest we put the WoW looks like WAR or vice versa to rest. both are computer games and that's it.

but seriously, I play beta and WAR really delivers on everything they promise. it is a fun game in PvE and PvP.

I have played WoW, but without endgame and raiding only, every moderately decent game would be "better" for me.

and WAR is simply a blast.

I mean, tome of knowledge,

public quests (basically raid that is not instanced, not player limited and you can enter and leave as you please)

and RvR where players drop loot (without the player actually losing any item) and you get XP,

the system is near perfect for me

well tbh honest i was waiting from warhamer  and all epiq medieval fantasy upcoming mmo's to have some more tactical combat system ,means in a simulation rythm realistic attack speed... example the atatcks in wow are very fast and unrealistic in speed   imagine a rogue with blade fury open and slice and dice not to mention any heroism buffs from a shaman. u never see the sword slashing through the armour and back agan just some mash of steel sweeping sweeping ...i dprefer to see some slower and more tactical and ofc much better animations during a melee battle for example oblivion style battles .. ..if u watch a movie with medieval battles many times a 2 handed sword wielder needs 3-4 seconds sometimes to perform a second swind same with  duel weild weapons situations e.t.c. too much speedy battles and less tactical awarenees from all mmo's including WAR. I wish they could slow the battle pace and make battles more tactical and that way the adrenaline flows faster guys trust me..

funny you should say that. I have talked to a lot of classes about their experiences (still looking for a main class) and several iron breakers ingame told me that they had 5 to 15 minutes fights with zealots.

in every 1 on 1 (which, on the other hand are surprisingly rare) fights are never ever done in a few seconds. I have done 2-3 minute fights with several classes. and most fights I do must end quickly becaus I usually play a bright wizard.

WAR is about as slow as it gets (if you exclude EVE which is 1000% more complex in that regard).

keep in mind that many videos, especially those with only music are sped up or from earlier beta.

and to Oblivion: WAR uses the same engine btw ;)  (gamebryo) but I finish fights a lot faster in oblivion, because in Oblivion there are only 1 on 1s usually and in WAR, as soon as groups are involved, killing enemies takes a lot longer in general

GREAT 1 on 1 fights video:   www.youtube.com/watch

ZOMGWTFBBQ!!!1!!1one!!!niner!!!! wut r u syaing!?!?!?  <enter game> so pwns ur game and u sux! lOLOLOLOLz!!!

Yeah I agree with ya... the WAR beta has actually got me interested in another fantasy MMO.  I burned out after 2 years in WoW running a bigass guild, and constantly hearing one thing or another about raiding or loot splits etc etc etc.  The WoW pvp was fun for a week, until it became like playing Pigskin Footbrawl without the humor over and over.

After a while, the login screen gave me a headache.  I still get one when I see the WoW login screen.  I think I may actually have played "too long" and not just accepted burnout when it happened.

On the other hand, I've been a Warhammer fan since like, '91 if I'm not mistaken when I first got my grubby mitts on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.  (yes, I'm one of *those* geeks).  Even the lore and backstory in beta has been wonderfully true to the namesake, so amidst the carnage that bloody well should characterise any game based off Warhammer, I've been finding a truly deep world to be immersed in.

This is only the 2nd game I've ever preordered.  The first was, ironically, WoW.  I've been stoked for Warhammer since Climax was originally developing it.  (I was on the Warhammer Warcry staff before they dropped the license).  So even if the game ends up being only a few months of fun, It's a few months of fun I wouldn't have been able to have otherwise with a franchise I've loved for many a year.

I saw that climax Warhammer trailer shortly before they dropped the license. was awsome. from that point on I hoped someone would pick it up again and bring it to glory and to a wider audience.

seems Mythic might just do that

I'm 28 and i watch anime . Actually when i was 14 years old with zit. I would be  like every other teen here . Anti-cartoon graphic.Just to be sure my man-meter would be acknowledged by that sweet little chick by me.

Oh look at me sweety i'm a MAN! I listen Eminem and watch GORE MOVIE.i PWn BABE!!! Wanna ride my Scooter?
