Every time you speak in a War thread Protus, I'm going to picture you talking about AoC instead with what you say. You know why? Because your War bashing is EXACTLY what is wrong with Funcom and Age of Conan! ------------------------------ 'Cry Havoc, and Let Loose the Dogs of WARRRRR!!!' |

What you're trying to pull here is extremely obvious, Protus... Unfortunately, this isn't AoC, it's not FC behind it, and so... it just doesn't fly. Please, stop with the black helicopter / tin-foil hat conspiracy stuff.. What they're doing is nothing at all new in the MMO genre... It's not just Mythic... *most* companies do this.

World of Warcraft was Open beta, with no preorder required, so was EQ2, and WoW even let you carry over your Beta Character to the retail game., this all took place a little more then 4 years ago. |

I don#t want to bash Mythic, but this nonesensical talk of Open beta's having not been "Free" forever is just amusing me.
Mythic did the "OPEN" Beta with their old game by the way, just to toss another one in there. DAoC you could get into Open Beta quite freely without having to preorder or anything of the like.
This practice has become chic with the growing popularity of the genre. Because now, companies can afford to do it. I'm not saying Mythic is a bad company because of this. I'm just saying it as it is. Please do not try to make it appear as though this has been normal for a long time, because it hasn't. |

They've already stated that it would not be a true open beta a loooooong time ago. If it sounds shady, it sounds shady. I had a lot of fun in closed beta and preview weekend. Of course there are some bugs that need to be fixed, but RvR worked perfect for me. It was also the most fun I've had in a while. As of right now I am happy with my preorder, and I've gotten a bunch of my friends to preorder as well. If this game fails I will be really surprized. I highly doubt it will. but only time will tell. For now, though, it looks like the game many PvPers have been waiting for. |

All I said was that this kind of practice has -not- been standard for ages as was claimed by several other people in this thread. Kindly explain to me how that is -bitching- about something? |

Sorry there chief, but Fileplanet has been giving out beta's since Ultima Online with subscription fees as the underlying hook. It's not mythic you should be hating on it's Fileplanet. Mythic simply sold or gave them some Beta keys to disperse however they see fit. Yes Fileplanet is shady and always will be. They like to make money off us. ----------------------- |

I do not hate Mythic. I do not hate WAR. I do not even hate Fileplanet so much as some of you people apparently do.
All I am saying is that 10 years ago, I was playing beta's without getting pre-orders or subscribing to File-Planet. It's -NOT- the standard. It may have happened, yes, but it's not like it's been the standard of the genre forever. *sigh*
Stop putting hatred into my words. |

Stop putting hatred into my words. It's been the standard since the start, yes even "MORE" than 10 years ago. Sure you can get lucky by signing up to the offical sites of the game providers, but some people like the 100% opt in instead of the random picking. I still fail to see what your point is, both have existed this way since the begining. MMORPG does it right. Everytime they are given Beta keys they give them out for free unlike some of the other larger sites that are more money driven. ----------------------- |

I'm not a WAR fanboy.. probably won't even play it. That said.. Mythic is one of THE MOST reputable companies in the genre. Nothing shady here at all. |

Lineage 2 did it as well, but I agree. WoW did not do this. |
