Hey guys im a little confused.. im pretty sure that open beta (atleast for all other games) meant that the game was in an open phase of beta, allowing the public to download and play the game for free, however for WAR... the only way to get into open beta is to pre-order the game... how does that make sense?? does anybody know whether or not a true open beta will take place or a pre-ordered close one |

Yeah this does sound pretty shady to me also. I think they are hiding something and trying to just con people out of their hard earned money. I would be careful |

There are far too many people playing MMOs now especially those looking for a free ride to open servers to everyone. Game companies can't spend extra money just to set up servers for a massive influx of cheap bastards to play for free. If you want in open beta, pay $5 to reserve a copy of the game and cancel if you dont like it. It's a Jeep thing. . .

First let me say that Open Beta means it is the phase of the Beta in which all information is open and free. There is limited openings, every open beta will have a limited number of keys. Also you do not have to pre-order to get into the OB, you can sign up on the website for a chance to get in. Your best option is to get over it go to Target and buy the preorder for 99 cents. If you still want to play the OMG they are hiding something perhaps you should look at the whole NDA lift... |

Most either use the preorder or a website like Fileplanet (which you have to pay a subscription for) to get in, or they offer a "free" trial through a magazine (which you also have to pay for first, unless you steal the magazine) |

If you seriously think a mcdonald's 99 cent cheeseburger is better than a 99 cent Open Beta of War, you are saddly mistaken! No one's conning you out of anything. ------------------------------ 'Cry Havoc, and Let Loose the Dogs of WARRRRR!!!' |

This information has been floating around so long now, I'm surprised some people still haven't gotten it. Open Beta does /NOT/ mean open to the general public. It simply means that information is freely available and there is no NDA. Closed Beta doesn't mean that it is restricted from everyone, it simply means that all information is controlled by the NDA. For marketing purposes, some jackass decided that it would be cool to call an All Access Beta the 'Open' Beta, and since consumers and marketing reps like things simple, it stuck. However, it never changed the meaning that the developers assigned to the words, hence the confusion between consumer and developer. With that out of the way, Mythic has, for some time, been saying that they would not have a beta that was open to the general public to give them a free taste of the game. It would have restricted access to pre-orders and some select few that won contests and such through various websites. |

It really surprises me how tolerant you all are with mythic even though all this seems very shady to me. Seems like they are hiding way to much from people unless you pay upfront first. |

Maybe they will have another before the 7th when it all opens up for OB Key Holders. Good Hunting |

I put this quick chart together so it might help some people under stand in general what a testing process is: Chart of how testing is done in most cases: Alpha Testing = Internal company employee's and my include friends and family members of employee's under NDA. Beta Testing (Closed) = All of the above and selected public players that meet the internal defined testing requirements and under NDA. Beta Testing (Open) = All of the above and a larger player base invited to test specifc aspects of the game and stress test. Traditionally the NDA is lifted by then hence the term OPEN. Preview Play = Most often Promotional invites that the genernal public can have access to the game for a period of time through site registration or contests. Free Demo = Normally buddy passes given out 3 to 6 months after release or with a retail purchase of the game or contest prize. It is seldom if ever that you will see any preleases of a game open to the world for download unless it is free play. |

they are smarter than funcom. all you would hear around the internet is "OMFG i couldnt log in", "omfg there were 1,000 people in the public quest, PQ sux, it's impossible to win", "omg the performance sux!". they don't want that and they dont need a bunch of freeloading trolls trying to bash the game. trust me just preorder, it's worth it, the game is amazing to me. |

The rest of us go looking for that $1 for the pre-order, you could probably find this while walking to the store to pre-order. Or we played on preview weekend, or beta OR we could just use our reading skills to read the massive amount of reviews out there now; good and bad alike. The terminology is what gets people confused. People use the term open beta alot and it means different things to everyone. Conan's so called open beta you had to subscibe to fileplanet and they still had the NDA in place. That was a joke. Obviously they can not handle the massive traffic a true open beta would bring. No company is going to foot the bill to let a million people test a game with no money comming in yet. If you want to try the game order it online or put down 5 bucks at your local retailer. If you don't like it then simply cancel and you lost nothing. In fairness they are being more open than most games have been recently. |

You dont have to pay anything up front for the Warhammer Beta...Pre Order does nto require payment some times stores require a downpayment that is refundable. People are morons that are too lazy to go and get their money back keep thinking you have to pay up front. If you dont want to pre order and you are a subscriber to file planet a limited number of OB keys are currently being given away. You Must be a fileplanet subscriber like many other beta's have done. There is No NDA except for elder testers (which covers very little of the game), and OB gets you the First 2 out of Four Tiers of all 3 Racial Pairings. |

Mythic outlined these details back in like 2006. If this surprises anyone it's their fault for not researching a game they're thinking about buying. |
