Really looking at all the MMOs released in 2k8 isnt Wow a sand box game..... and Does their failure send a message to developers. When I first started to play MMOs I thought that they would get bigger and more complex, but they have shrunk and become easier.... Now what? |

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

I dont think you understand what they mean by sandbox. Theres more to it than just being able to roam around. One big sticking point is that you cant change the world in WoW. In sandboxes the players have the ability to do so. |

Thats the point its a better sand box and they will not do aswell, Wow may suck but its a big wide free rome world...and MMOS failed to see that that was important. |

honestly camisado, do research before you make a post like this
sandbox is something where you can do things that developers didnt really intend on people doing, knew they could do them, but was not really intended (e.g in UO and swg you can put a house or object just about anywhere in the world, you can trap people inside walls or objects if done right). another thing you can do in sandbox is have a completely unique character build both SWG and UO had this. usually a skill based system, in UO you could be a mage, but at the same time a melee fighter or an archer, perhaps a creature tamer, even someone who chops wood for a living, you could go out and find a sheep and then take its wool, make it into yarn, make the yarn into a peice of cloth, make the peices of cloth into clothing or sell them for profit. in SWG you could be a rifleman, then be a teras kasi martial artist, you could take a dab in the medic line so you can heal yourself, maybe get some fencer for defenses or master fencer and be a one handed fighter, you could go as far as being a ranger, making traps, taming animals, setting up camps for fellow players, etc etc. lastly, the one thing i consider sandbox but i dont believe is officially so is FFA PvP and a full loot system. something i would expect in the settings of games (fantasy or sci-fi), if i killed someone and they had something of value, be it gold, credits, a blaster rifle, a sword, suit of armor, or otherwise i'd take it from them as if it was real life...i guess like real life, except i wouldnt get a blaster rifle, id prolly get their wallet, maybe jewlery lol.
anyways, i hope this helps out before you make such a post again. |

I do get sandbox, but the fact that AoC and War and Tabula and hellgate all failed in the same linear gameplay and design...that should say something. |

This is a pretty clear definition of sandbox, definately a far cry from WoW eh? |

please read my post, cam
and btw, the leveling system in wow is pretty linear...at least if you want to do it the most efficient way, and then to get the top level armor you can only do it one way, do some craptastic raid instance hundreds of times...then if you want the top pvp armor you have ONE LINEAR way of doing it, pvp in arenas till you got the points or w.e |

Originally posted by RogueSeven I Get it but that system is gone and now even wows open world is being attacked with the latest MMOs yes but WoW surounded its linear system with atmoshere....AoC and War are just window dressed everything that can happen ingame for you is happening within 200yrds.
I feel like the lines are fading, and we are being sold so much less than what we thought wed be getting ....smaller better faster... |
