So i got this game with a buddy awhile back. We were looking for something new to play after years of wow and heard good things about this game. Played for a few weeks and decided the game was great, at least i did. He ended up leaving because of a lack of pvp feeling that wow style pvp was more ideal. I also let my account expire and now i am unhappy with that decision but i would like to share why. It was lonely. I was playing a Dwarf guardian on landorval and it was great but the overwhelming feeling of loneliness kicked my behind. Logging on to dead chat windows and a zone where there was rarely another soul in sight caused me to give up on the game. Now however after many other MMO disappointments i bring myself to thinking that it is the one game i want to go back to. However, I know that i cannot return to a game experience of such solitude again. I have gone to the game forums and these forums with a plea. If anyone can tell me where/how/who i can seek out to present myself to some sort of in game community please speak up. (Willing to re-roll on another server...will even play a class that might be particularily lacking in a guild if it means i can find a home.)

Thanks for your time.

I play on Landroval and while I do not have a dwarf I have been to Thorins Hall. There is plenty of chat in the human areas I know. The times I have been to Thorins Hall there seemed to be plenty. Try spending a night in Bree and the surrounding area....way too much chat. Good luck

Are you sure you don't have this game confused with Ages of Conan just kidding. Here is a screenie that I took a couple of minutes ago on Silverlode, the chat in the chat channel was just a pure coincidence. Apparently some servers do have better pops than others. Brandywine is supposed to be the best, but Silverlode is seems to have a good number. almost 30 just in Bree at 9:30 on a Sunday morning is pretty good. I am leveling a alt and have noticed a fair population and pretty easy grouping in all of the areas I have been leveling in from low teens to about 40 in the last couple of months.

I posted in this in the other topic, but try the Brandywine server.

I think it's the area.

Humans and Elves seem to be the most popular characters, with hobbits and dwarves a distant 3/4.  The elf and human starting areas seem fairly crowded, but not the dwarf (and while I haven't made a hobbit, the shire seems pretty empty)

Also, a lot of it is that the Ered Luin and Shire starter areas only go up so far in terms of content (whereas Breeland has content up into the 20s), and the speed of progression at those early levels is very fast. As a result, people tend to move on to the Lone Lands, North Downs, et cetera pretty quickly. The different races do get racial recall abilities that take them to their major cities (Dwarves recall to Thorin's Hall), but dwarves tend to be a bit less-played than humans and elves, as was mentioned.

Humans recall to Bree-Town, Elves to Rivendell. Since Rivendell is a big quest hub for both epics and normal quests at the upper levels, it tends to be fairly well-populated. Additionally, passing through Rivendell is the only way to reach the Misty Mountains, which adds more traffic. Bree-Town is the center of the game as far as travel goes, so it tends to have a much higher population than Thorin's Hall, which really is in a more "fringe" location. Other than Sarnur, the main reason to spend time in Thorin's Hall at the mid-to-upper levels is the Superior Forge in the crafting area and the Superior Workbench in the reputation area.

As far as the Shire goes, I think Landroval might be a bit different than the other servers. On Landroval, it's usually pretty populated, at least in Michel Delving. I live in the Shire Homestead, so I do most of my shopping in Michel Delving, and I can't think of a time when there weren't people at the broker. Since Michel Delving covers a lot less landmass than Bree-Town, Rivendell or Thorin's Hall, the people that are there tend to be much more visible, too. Also, a lot of the roleplaying kinships on Landroval operate out of the Shire, which adds to the numbers.

I played this game for a while, and it is fantastic.  I was on Landroval server and I didn't have an issue with chat.  Especially once you make it to Bree.  The dwarve area was definitely the slowest and least populated, but I found the shire to be quite active for beginners.  Michel Delving always had a large group, especially around the crafting area.  One big thing to consider is that you are comparing it to WOW.  WoW has 11 million people.  I would guess LOTRO as 300-600k (they don't post numbers).  I would give it a go till you at least hit 15-20.  By then you'll be into major storylines and instances, and all around Bree, which is always crowded.

Try joining some of the global chat channels your server has. Things should definitely seem more "alive" then, as these channels are server-wide.

Following the previous conversation. Does anyone know of any nice helpful kinships looking for a mature player who enjoys pve, rp and some light raiding. Currently a level 12 dwarf guardian. However lots of mmo experience. I apologize right now for posting this here but as i said my account is not active and i cannot post on the lotro.com forums. I would just like to get some community feelers out before reactivation.

The shire, erud luin and dwarf area are all usually slow. Bree is the main hub get there and have fun. Landroval also has a very healthy population.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

There are a lot of kinships of all shapes and sizes to choose from. You might look around Guildportal and see what they have listed. The official forums are one of the best places to look (each server forum has a kinship sub-forum), so I'd probably just wait until you get your account activated. As far as recommendations, I think the qualifications you listed describe 80% of the kinships in the game, so you should be just fine on that front.

I've never actually been in a kinship and I don't typically remember the kinship names of people I spend time with, so I can't really point you in the direction of any particular group. I've been playing this game off and on since closed beta, and it just hasn't been something I've ever really felt I needed, since it's pretty easy to find fellowships and chat whenever you want it if you keep an updated friends list.

That said, I doubt very much you'll have any trouble locating a kinship that suits your needs once you're playing. As I said above, the forums really are your best bet. If you don't find anything that catches your attention in the kinship forum, you can always just post on the main Landroval forum and let the population do your work for you. While the MMORPG forums are great, the official forum has significantly more traffic, so you'll get a lot more feedback from more diverse perspectives. I know this isn't exactly the "try kinship [X]!" response you were probably hoping for, but it's the best I can do. Good luck!

Yeah if you want chat you need to go to Bree...Unfortunately 75 percent of that chat is gold selling spam but at least you will see chat.......

I'm in the same boat as you. I renewed my account due to lack of games to play and Nimrodel is a ghost town. Running around Angamar, Trollshaws, Evendim and no one in sight. No one talks no one groups. All I have and can find are group quests in the low forties and no groups to be had. Don't waste your time this game is dead.

My server is doing fine.  And based on how long it took us to do the Ring-lore quest, it's one of the lower pop servers.  I think only 3 or 4 servers took longer than us.  Or maybe we have a higher pop and we are all lazy

I think it depends when you play. During prime time (like 7-11 pm, Central Time) it's fairly crowded, but after that it's a ghost town (I play on Landroval)

It feel the same way as the OP, and its the reason I left the game the first time and is the reason I just cancelled again for the second.  Chat is not a problem for me on Landroval, there are plenty of people online chatting it up. Finding mid-level groups is another story all together. it is a long boring process trying to form groups to complete all the fellowship quests in each area. I use global LFF as well and there just isnt enough people at this level to logon and get stuff done anymore. If you are lucky enough to get a pug after waiting for hours consider yourself lucky to get some completes without wiping a few times or having folks bail out.
