Lol i kinda do and i kinda don't. I played L2 for a long while got to lvl 72 but hey as you know that took me a really long time to do. While i did enjoy the grinding in L2 and the fact that you really had to watch your back at all times or well you would get killed. I don't really have the time that i did back then because im not in school anymore and i have a job and friends to think of. Still love MMOs though that's never gonna change.

*has some freetime during vacation to post*

I don't mind grinding if I'm enjoying myself.  I love PvP, so if the game is a huge grind, then I would hope that PVP will be spread out.  Fighting other players for PVE areas. that kind of stuff I would love seeing in AION.

I don't want it to be as hardcore as L2 (before the update).  Somewhere inbetween the L2 and WoW grind would be perfect.  Not too simple but not too hardcore.  I wouldn't mind AION being a grind, as long as there wil eb good PVP and PVE throughout the game.

I also wouldn't believe NCSoft is going to make the harsh grind in their games anymore.  I think a key point of the update they made in L2 is that they are done havign rediculous grinds.

But, you never know.  I'm just hoping it's not as simple as WoW.

Hehe I kinda agree. There has to be some grinding.. Otherwise leveling isn't as rewarding a feeling for me.
When you see a high level in a game with grinding, you know that he has worked hard for it. It's not like that in most new games today though. People want everything handed to them and seem to be afraid of a challenging gameplay.

Yes, many people that're going to play Aion are mainly waiting for the Game: Lineage III. Me too.

true, grinding can be a bitch, but if it's done correctly then it's not. and as long as it's got some quests for me to do so i dont get bored from grinding, then some grinding to level, then the option of questing or  something else for experience would be great.

Grinding sucks for me. I've done it, I know what it's like, I don't need to do it again, I just want to explore and have fun.

Grinding by myself is hella boring, but I'll do it every once in awhile... however, I love group grinding. Grinding with groups is one of the reasons why I enjoy playing FFXI.

I agree but this game isn't being designed as a grind though.

No I don't want the game to be a grind. I rather get to the good part of being able to PvP/RvR myself. WTF is the point of wasting time grinding on PvE when you really want to PvP? It would seriously be a major game killer for me if this game forces you to grind away at PvE crap.

So if this game is anywhere near L2's grind I won't touch it at all. Luckily WAR has proven to be on track with their game and so I have my options open. Hopefully AION will prove the same thing and live up to it's promise of not being a grindfest like L2.

Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

GW2 (+LoL and BF3)

i personally hope the grind comes in the form of farming top tier gear/mats in the abyss.

for some reason in mmo's mat/gear farming parties (but not raid parties >.>) have always been funner than exp farming parties.

while i didn't like l2'schance to fail recipes, i'm hoping that the rec's still take a whole lot of mats/crafted mats to make, and that the best way to get top tier gear is to craft rather than farming raid bosses (such as in wow where spending 4-8 hours a night drinking coffee and banging your head against a keyboard in a raid dungeon was the only way to farm gear- or ofc pulling out your hair in exasperation of facing another 2000+ rate team with your 1600 rated team in arenas for gear.)

the grind should come in to play with farming your enemies dead bodies for pvp rep points, strategic pvpve raids (i'm hoping for weekly or bi weekly siege type l2 style raids here, not the daily nonsense of wow) and constant clan/faction warfare that mattersenough to interest people in world pvp but not so much that ppl whine about it constantly.

so me, myself, i am hoping for the antithesis of wow in an l2 style format circa c3-c5 (i quit just after c6 but not due to game mechanic changes) with some improvements, sans the hardcore exp grind.

and while i love dungeons, i hate not being able to chase my enemies into them. i want long term goals without needing to commit 4-8 hours to a single task. i want to be able to roam about if the feeling is right and pk some ppl without taking a huge hit to the efficency of my daily tasks/quests completion.

p.s. if you like th el2 style grind...

it is a f2p game but sword of the new world/granada espada is an interesting l2 clone that's comparitve to other f2p l2 clones qell made and decently dev'ed.

the grind is there, apparentlyespecially after 50, and supports afk "play" and allows for multiple character control in a style remincsient of thee boxing without the multiple clients running.

if you were like me and had 2 buffers running behind your nuker in l2, and could activelyplay all three in ao/grind parties, this game is worth looking at while we wait for aion.

I want Aion to have its dose of grind, if by grind we mean a repetitive task.

Learning and memorizing, both processes involve repetitive tasks inside your brain in order to master something, it's sad to see how in certain games you reach top level, gear, and every single thing you might progress at, without knowing how to use half of your skills, or without the chance to check out how to setup your character correctly without relying on guides.

Now, I also want to feel my character's story, and a main storyline is necessary for that, so is an involving world and enviroment.

I don't want aion to wear off after a month though, take in consideration that the content released through a game before a new expansion comes out can't fill 365 days of different activities, so you will have to grind something if you want the game to last, now, what devs do to solve this is called community, the game won't give you something new every day, the community will, if the game is developed correctly as a MMORPG.

As Ralph Koster would say, once you've resolved the pattern, the game becomes boring. Players community keep adding variables into the basic equation, and that's what I expect from Aion, a lot of player-made variables.

Well, the problem about todays grind in games is the horrible way that a lot of games are made these days.
Just take a look at WoW. (I guess most of you know that game. Hehe) it's like a race to hit max level asap.. WHY?!
When they make games that are all about hitting the end, they will have problems with people whining about grinding etc. It will always be like that.
Imo,  mmorpgs should be about the JOURNEY, not the GOAL! It would be like us (IRL) trying to get old as fast as possible. It's stupid.
When people know that they're in a race for the end, they want to get there as fast as possible and that's why grinding can sometimes feel more like work than a game.
In some of the older games hitting the level cap wasn't really all that important, so people didn't worry that much about leveling and that's why the grind didn't bother people as much. People weren't in a hurry. If they didn't want to do any grinding one night, they would just do something else. Help a guild member, do some crafting or whatever.

While the whole "end game" concept is retarded, I understand why game devs. like it. It makes their job easier. In and old game like Asheron's Call the devs. would have to add new content for all level ranges but Blizzard doesn't have to worry about anyone but level 60 or 70 (or whatever the level cap is today). It's much easier for them when they know that the new content will be played by people who are all in the same level range. The real question is, why the hell do the players put up with lazy devs?
We pay monthly fees for them to do their job. It's not like it's charity work. lol

To play devil's advocate here, assuming the developer does their job well in the first place, why do they have to add a ton of sub-end game content?  If there's more than enough things to do before end game, it'll take until at least your third character to do them all.

If you're that much of an alt-aholic, I'd suggest that you're probably not the target market for many devs.

I am actually one of those that also like exp grinding, lol. I broke into the MMO world with Lineage 1, and the grind in that game when I played years ago was just insane! My prepping for leveling was loading up a bag full of pots and teleports, to the point I almost could not move, going out and scouting out mob spawn points and their paths and watching how often they spawned in those spots, then making a leveling path following them. I would be sitting in these areas for hours at a time just walking a circle killing mobs as they popped, chatting with guild mates and listening to music. Tedious? Hell ya! But I don't think I ever enjoyed myself more in a game.

The only problem with mega grinding now, is that  I just do not have the same kind of time to dedicate to it. I was 14/15 years old when I first started lineage 1, I had a lot of time after school to sit around and grind, including weekends off, holiday breaks the lasted 1-2 weeks, summer break lasting 2.5 months... God do i miss that free time

I am 23 now and I work 6 days a week, and rarely get a decent vacation in. So even though I do enjoy the grind, I just can't make the same kind of progress with it like I used to and its nice to have a game with a good balance between grinding and questing to help make things move a long a little smoother. Aion says it's going to have that balance, I hope it's true.

As for item and gear grinding, and constant raiding, not so much a big fan. It always lead to a lot of aggrivation and frustration in my experiences.

Yeah oddly enough I must say any kind of grinding (with the right party/guild) is so much fun. Sometimes it's fun to even just due with a friend or someone you met in game. All that said, If there would be any kind of grinding I hope it will not be as hardcore grinding like L2 was, which from what I have read NCsoft is not aiming for a grinding aspect like L2.

I just can't wait to get my hands on this game it seems like NCsoft has 2 games I'm looking forward to

I'm not an alt-aholic. What I'm looking for is a game where I don't NEED alts to have some fun. I want content. MMORPGS should be about the whole journey from level 1 to 50 (or whatever) and not just about what happens once you hit the level cap. Unfortunately that's how a lot of newer games are made. The leveling part of the game is nothing but a pointless time sink. The game doesn't start until you've hit the cap.. And that's plain retarded.
When people make a lot of alts it's usually because the game is boring. Maybe they can't do anything but raiding/pvp on their main so they create a new char to enjoy other aspects of the game. The "end-game" type of games are the worst alt-wise because end-game gets boring as hell.. Really fast. Making a good armor extremely rare doesn't make a game fun.
