Will it run through a hardware firewall?

If NO: Does it run flawless after the ports are forwarded or does it require near-perfection in the setup of the router before its playable?

My network is hosted on a router that leaves alot to be desired. Games that run through firewalls work perfectly, but games that require forwarding are hit and miss. So I'm worried that the Punkbuster stuff might put WAR in my miss category : /
