If it contains the words video and game, it must be a WOW clone. |

Not to derail, but I have to agree. WoW is a great game, and people play for years, then bitch it sucks. People grow out of it, after having a blast for so long, then join the hate - WoW crowd.
/resume thread.
Weird how this happens.
Some ex wow players even go to the extent of denying they even played the game so they can join the disgruntled UO/EQ vet (sore losers) in their bias hatred. Never was a fan of wow or highfantasy in general , Played till 30 and couldn't take it any longer. Get your facts straight I am a disgruntled SWG vet . I played SWG for 3 years now EVE online and Ryzom(Which just reopened), Not hard to figure out why I don't like WOW. For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson If you can't argue the point don't say anything at all. |

And... as I said in the other thread, DDO, MxO and possibly SWG should be added to the trophy heads. |

So...if Blizzard made a MASSIVE Stacraft mmo..you would play it right? I know I would. |

Any new or returning player to WOW, send me a PM for some help getting started. |

Everybody hates 'the man'. If you are super successful finanically, you either sold out or are playing to the least common denominator (ie.. the kiddies). WOW will continue to have niche' competitors in the same way MS WIndows does. The teenage angst/coffee house people will point out every minor flaw in WOW while propping up far inferior products because they are 'unique and new'. If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. Scroll of Rez gives 7 free days, boost a character to 80 a realm and faction change. Send me PM for an invite. Only 1 per day available |

Only 1 MMO has more subs (wow), so there's only 1 good MMO and the rest is crap? Good theory Everyone not playing wow is a wow hater! :P |

Lineage 1 & 2 has a few million subs between them. Final Fantasy XI has close to a million I think. LOTRO is at the bottom of the barrel for pay to play MMOs really. |

SWG definitely more of a victim to WoW than any of the games that launched after WoW imo. Amusing image though. Dark and Light - Tons of technical problems with the game, and never really became a fraction of what it was supposed to be. Archlord - Horrible grinder with little western appeal.. niche game at best. Tabula Rasa - Over hyped, one dimensional, more of a sci-fi niche game in todays market. Pirates of the Burning Seas - Never had broad appeal, niche game. Vanguard - Expected themselves to steal some of the hardcore crowd (core gamer) from WoW, but never expected to be in the ballpark for subscribers. Bugs and lack of content hurt when directly compared to WoW. Really another niche game that over time refined itself to have a broader appeal to the average gamer. Lord of the Rings Online - Couldn't compete, but I personally believe it would be the standard on the market if WoW didn't exist. CoH / CoV - Lack of endgame and crappy loot tables damaged the game when compared to WoW, but it has and always will be a niche game. AoC - expected to compete on some level, but the state the it launched in has forever damaged the reputation of the game. I think that EQ2 and other smaller market games lost a lot of ground when AoC was released. Ok so if anything I think that the polish of WoW hurt everything that launched in a crappy state, but otherwise none of those games expected to chip away much at WoW subscriber base. It would be a stretch to say that any game has been developed to offer gameplay that would rival the broad player market that WoW had targeted with its "donut" concept of game development. Niche games look to target a different audience imo. I could be way off, I don't know. :p |

Anarchy Online has roughly 20k total subscribers, paid and froob. So I'd say it's at the bottom of the barrel, not LotRO. Oh, wait. AO is a Funcom game. Surprise. |

I played wow, I played LOTRO (and a number of others) none of them perfect but most had some qualities worthy of MY (YES - its a PERSONAL opinion) subscription fee. AoC is different to me though... I have never seen a game invite that much hate and ridicule - IMO well deserved! PS: Thank you OP - Loved that piece of work
Only MMO-players manage to start an argument over the amount of "sparkling" in a lightsaber... |

Has Lotro subs dropped sharply in the past 3 months? Last time I checked the MMOreport it said 280k subs which is quite good. "You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs." |

LoTRO is just mediocre all around. They presented a stable game, good graphics, with shallow eplay and it shows. They are retaining a decent playerbase (anywhere from 150k to 250k) but they haven't been able to get past that hump. Furthermore, we don't know how many of those are lifetime subs. I'm willing to bet that AoC has outsold LoTRO in terms of retail/download sales, etc which is sad really. LoTR, was the top fantasy IP of all time and LoTRO is at what it is now? It's called being mediocre. It's like a team paying a huge contract to the best baseball player in the league who then goes .280, 25hr and 90 RBI when they have averaged over 320, 40+ and 100+ RBIs their entire career. Sure, not a bad season but compared to what the player SHOULD have been they are mediocre. People continue to praise Turbine left and right as the company who does it right, the company who delivers. Turbine won the best fantasy IP and managed to get only a mediocre launch/subscription rate out of it. Let us consider this for a moment. Even with the limited open betas Age of Conan managed to sell over 700k to 800k copies. Almost the same amount of people who played in the LoTRO beta and yet to this day we haven't seen one new server open for LoTRO. Turbine deserves no praise as a great MMO developer. They are just as slimy and shady as Funcom or SOE, in some ways, moreso. splat |

Originally posted by Dethnoble Ummmm..... no. Apparently you haven't been paying attention one bit. Because, that highlighted statement you just said is beyond questionable. I agree that LoTRO hasn't lived up to the expectations and that Turbine did take an easier way out. However, saying that Turbine = Funcom... is dead wrong. |
