If you're developing a First Person Shooter Sci-Fi/Fantasy Themed MMORPG I would like to know more about it. |

Well I just got some initial angel funding for development. It's only half a mil but at least it's a start. I'm mainly going to be working on the engine first though since it's the key to our game. We are going to try to support everyone (i.e. millions of people) on one server with no instances and terrain the size of an actual planet. I know that sounds like pie in the sky but there are ways to do it and it's not as hard as it sounds. In fact the reason I'm doing this is that it seems so obvious I can't believe that no one is working on it.... or maybe they are. In any case, no guts no glory. |

Hmm... what planet? Murcury? The planet St. Exupery's Little Prince was from was the size of a house. Sure... you can make a game the size of a planet...... but if it is too big you better make some way to travel quickly. Oh, and please dont instance everything. |

It's not that hard to write one although it's requires some effort to make it good. The only problem is they don't have a system of doing the dynamic server processes which you would need to support mobs for a giant MMORPG game like this. So this is what we are working on. |

Originally posted by ketrine No the planet can be as big as you want. We are using real-time fractals so there is almost no data to store. In fact for a space game you would have a lot of different planets. You do however need templates for trees, rocks, buildings etc however they can be reused and scaled as needed. Even some of these can be generated as fractals. Also nothing need be instanced. In fact I generally dislike instancing. Traveling quickly will depend on what type of game it is. For fantasy there is magic. For SF there are vehicles. However we have some ideas on how to use exploration as a way of leveling so we may not want to speed things up too much. As it stands this is an open issue. |

Meh, MMOFPSRPG... Not my genre anymore. I prefer much more MMOBBQWTFPWNNUBRTSFPSSHMUPRPG. Seriously people, MMOFPSRPG? It's mmorpg.com here, meant for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Not much else. |

MMOFPSRPG sounds great but my only concern is lag in regards to twitch gameplay. Wouldn't FPS be unfeasible to do due to latency issues? Guess jumegate, vendetta online, and starport all pulled it off so its doable... |
