Okay I'll try to keep this brief, there's probably a dozen other reviews for you to read so I won't keep you. WAR is a great game, I'll certainly be buying it and I'd recommend you do too. Here's some reasons: - The PvP and RvR are great, done by the best The flaws: - Some people who've burned out on WoW may have a hard time getting into WAR Rune Priest = Zealot (Runes vs. Makrs)
If you can get by those flaws, or are excited about those pros, then you should definately buy the game. See you in WAR! |

I came into the thread thinking I'd see some huge flaws I missed while testing but it seems to be merely subjective decent concerns heehehe :) Your right the City fighting is awsome..I only got to witness it myself but I've participated in some of the City's PQ's when its not under attack. The citys are crazy huge...gotta give them credit for that..its never lacking in people that want to kill you or give you a quest.

Just a quick comment on the flaws. Shadow Warrior really plays nothing at all like Marauder and White Lion plays nothing at all like Squiq Herder. I'd say that Witch Hunter and Witch Elf are very different as well. Their mechanics may be similar in these pairings but the actual gameplay does not feel the same at all. Even something as simple as Bright Wizard vs Sorceress who are pretty clear mirrors don't really play fully alike by R31. |

When Alanis Morresette was all the rage, MTV News (I think it was) interviewed a Harvard English professor, asking him about how the song 'Ironic'. The conversation went something like this: 'Tell us professor, are the things in Miss Moresette's song really examples of irony?' 'Not really, no'. "Well, what are they then?' 'Well, the thing about 10,000 spoons when you need a knife is ironic. The rest of her examples are what are commonly referred to as 'bummers'.' There's only one actual 'pro' in your list of Pro's there. My question is. Will the game be entertaining after I've played for 200 hours? Or will it wind up as 'hey, they took our city last night, let't retake it tonight.' X 200. Because if it does, I can do the same thing with Team Fortress 2 for free.

Sure! Essentialy anyone who's played WoW is going to feel quite familiar when they start getting into WAR. You interact with the game in alot of the same ways, so you're going to be ahead of the learning curve as far as learning the game systems. I don't think I can exactly say that it's like WoW, but it's similar in the way that it shares alot of the same thinking as far as doing things. I'm trying to think of a good analogy but it's hard to come up with one, heh. I guess you might say it's kinda like if you've ever played fighting games. Street Fighter and Soul Calibur are not the same thing, but they have similar control schemes, similar screen layouts, similar goals. Some people love SF, some people love SC. If you've played SF you might have an easier time getting into SC than someone who's never played a fighting game before. As far as burned out people having a hard time getting into WAR, that's kinda a really subjective opinion. If you played WoW for 3 years and finally quit just cause you couldn't take the game anymore, when you start playing WAR you might experience the same sorta feelings because you're going to start playing WAR the same way you played WoW. (Most likely) That being said, if you quit WoW because you were bored of WoW's content, then this game is gonna be completely new and lots of fun for you. If you quit WoW because you just couldn't take that style of game anymore, well it might be a little too familiar. |

Squig herder is a ranged pet class (kinda like hunters in wow) White Lion is a melee pet class .. yes melee.. you fight with your pet in melee range (there are serveral builds that lets your change what role your pet will play -- DPS or Tank).

I'm not quite sure what point you're trying to make with the ironic bit, the reasons I suggested to buy the game are pro's for me is because it was my opinion. If they're not pro's for you that's fine, but that doesn't change the fact they are to me. As far as 200 hours, that's tough to say. 200 hours is a crazy long time. You seem to be quite subjective so I couldn't say whether it would be entertaining to you right now. If you play it for 200 hours then I'd say you definately got your money's worth. As far as the city siege stuff after 200 hours, I honestly don't think the cities will be being captured every night. It's hard to capture a city. You have to capture 2 of the enemy's 3 keeps at the same time, and you have to capture all the pvp points from your city to theirs. There's better explainations of it elsewhere but lets just say that it's quite a big feat. Not to mention that it's gonna be quite difficult. In order to push the enemies back to their gates, you're going to have to take numerous PvP structures, and that still might not be enough. You'll have to be dominating them and continually pushing them back, pushing them back, pushing them back. If it was easy, it wouldn't mean anything. In fact I've never seen it done without GMs assisting and pushing one side over. I would guess that a capitol city might be captured maybe one a month? It really all depends on the populations and skill of your server and so on. It will NOT be a nightly occurance though. In addition, just capturing the city isn't the end of it. Once you capture the city, then you get to sack and burn the city while the enemies try to force you out of it. Then you still got 2 strongholds within the city to take over before you can unlock the king. Then you gotta defeat the king (I've never seen that done either). Capturing a city will feel like a huge accomplishment that takes lots of hard work and coordination. Plus you'll still be advancing (there's atleast 70 levels of Renown aka PvP ranking). If you like PvP you'll always have stuff to do. As far as PvE content after 200 hours, I imagine there'll still be some even if you reach max level in that time. |
