I agree. I think WoW was a lot of folks first mmo. So their expectations are skewed, they think it's the best game out there, and base all their opinions on that game. I liked WoW, but i LOVED DAOC. it was the fight that always brought me back for more, not the 760th attempt at Rag. |

I agree. I think he's implying the RACES are similar and the UI is similar. The actual game is not. To the untrained eye (my girlfriend's) every game looks like the game you played a lot at one time. Therefore (Any 3rd Person game with an interface = WoW). I think WAR will do well. |

Major problem is most people can only compare a game to those they have played and have a hard time looking at a new thing and not say, "Oh yeah, that is kinda like such and such in WoW." However I totally agree with you, there are a bunch of new things in WAR that set it apart, shame a lot of people will just overlook it. |

I know WoW was the first mmo for many gamers, but it is funny that they seem to be under the impression that WoW invented everything. There hasn't really been much innovation or anything new since EQ & UO. WoW didn't invent or define the genre, it simply did a great job of building on the successes of earlier games, and an amazing job of capitalizing on a popular ip.
I've only been testing for month so far, but I can tell you that it is nothing like WoW, and the graphics are deffinatley an improvement. |

No, no, no,
and one more NO!
Its the WoW interface and world design(not graphics but design, I mean come on have any of you jumped over a fence in WAR its just the same as in WoW hieght wise and everything.)
But meant for DAOC players for the RvR.

Originally posted by Locklain Exactly, as I said in another post, I hate WoW but am greatly enjoying WAR. WoW has a stigma about it, mostly due to its elitist player base that WAR does not have. . .yet.
I'm sure the community has and will have it's elitists, there are several big "hardcore elitist" guilds forming under such monikers already for the game. The difference is that...they will have no venue for their elitism to spill over outside of the game itself since there are no forums for the game and you would have to go out of your way to encounter these people to be subjected to that kind of attitude in game or out of game. So basically you won't notice them much, they'll be there but sort of just circle jerking themselves in game without a crowd to show off to there's nothing they can really do flaunt their epeens rather than do well in RvR and hold keeps and whatnot, which is not detrimental to the community at all. I have a feeling War won't keep them interested for long for the very same reasons. Why work so hard to be able to rub people's faces in it...if there's nobody paying attention, so they will all head back to wow and it's forums once wotlk hits so they can sit in Dalaran all day /flex emoting at each other and dueling level ones in goldshire with their tier 9 gear.

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off. |

I could not disagree with you more, this game is very much like WoW. Of course it may be even more like DAOC, but it is more like if DAOC and WoW were to have a baby....this is what would come out lol. I know it sucks to admit that our beloved game is similar to the hated, childish WoW, but it is very much like it. For those of us who use to play the old hardcore MMOs such as EQ or UO this game reminds us of WoW because our first experience of games were not level-gear based games with little consequences to death. No, to us it is right in the same family with WoW. Now because this is all that is put out these days we will have to deal with it. With that said WAR is a lot of fun and has a lot of potential. It is very "busy" in the sense that WAR really is everywhere. |
