(yes I know they said 415k, but you all know as well as I do, that that doesnt take into consideration those who cancelled but still had gametime left.) still, 200-300k is nothing to sneeze about....
so the loss of 900k to 1 mill players based on the 1.2 mill units sold ? in 3 months lol is still nothing to sneeze at also lol
again im not sure about that 1.2 mill units sold. if its 800k units the still a loss of 500k to 600k ? |

you misunderstand me.... I despise what FunCoim has done. I WASTED my money on AoC. but... (granted this is a big but) IF funcom can retain 200-300k players then they will have the bankrole to keep the hampster spinning in their cage.... 200-300k players is still a healthy playerbase. again... thats IF FunCom can retain that many leading up to Q3 2008

My 60 day game card just ran out on AoC ( I cancelled my subscription 5 days after using the game time card lol ) I'd expect AoC's sub numbers to drop even more once people's time cards run out, let alone the fact that WAR is just around the corner. |

Speaking of eve, its almost like they're developing SWG in reverse (in that its focused on space combat, and later they want to introduce being able to land on planets), with the success so far I expect it to gain alot more popularity among games like WoW. :) (I just wish it was easier) >:(

Eve has had 42,000 players in ONE game world online at one time. Most you will get in WoW is around 5000 in one world at any time. And even then, you will get instanced if too many players are in one area. Eve has been growing since launch and that has not stopped. AoC is dying already. |

Take a look at this chart from April 2008, from mmogchart.com: http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart7.html Eve is doing better then Everquest 1 and 2 and Lord of the rings online. I don't play Eve by the way; to boring for me.

Couple of posters brought up some myths about EVE and its playerbase. Most of us are older folks actually, and I'm willing to be the median age is one of the highest. As such, most of us could give a flip about crossfire, that's a tool for the younger crowd, so IMO I think AOC would have a higher percentage of players using crossfire than EVE. Second, while CCP states the number of players with multiple accounts is like 19% (which even I doubt) it certainly isn't everyone. I do have two accounts, and I play on one box. I am a typical multi-account player and I don't use crossfire. But I will say this. If you go start a character today in EVE, you will find the new player starting area (and chat channel) full of people, systems will have many players in local, and this will be true for more systems in Empire/High Sec that you visit. MIners still complain that asteroid belts are overfarmed and its hard to find good ore. Contrast that with my final log in to AOC last week. The home cities were devoid of players, nary a sole in sight. Corridors that I once had trouble navigating were empty and lifeless, and this at primetime on one of the more popular servers. The low level player areas (20-40) were worse, the towns were almost empty, saw maybe 1 or 2 people running around them, far different from a month ago when there would be 20-30 people around. People can take Funcom's word about their player base being 400K, but my own experience leads me to believe the number is far lower than that. Evidence from sources like MMOChart and Crossfire only serve to reinforce my opinion.

you cant use Xfire as a legitmate way to count users. People who are against this game used that argument when Avery posted Xfire highest numbers in AoC in May of 08. You cannot turn around and use it for your benefit now. |

eve has between 250k-300k active subs AOC has 400k+, and out of that, more concurrent users than eve CAN have, as eves max Concurrent users is around 35k.
Not that that’s not impressive foe Eve and its architecture. Eve is also a game that would fall under the title of "Failed" by many AOC haters here, that has clawed its way back up to creating revenue. How soon we all forget.
Sorry - AoC has 400k users on a single shard?
Did'nt think so |

Hats off to funcom, they managed to get a months subscription out of me and I bought the packaging That *will* be the last time I buy anything from them ever again, and i was a diehard AO fan. Eve on the other hand....bravo, superb...in a nutshell not shit |

Correction. AoC HAD 400K+ subs. Today we don't know how many they have other then that we can say with reasonable certanty that they have less subs today then they had in the past. Have they fallen below the 250k that eve has? I'd say xfire shows that they are probably headed that way.... Maybe eve has more xfire people then AoC cause it is a different type of game. However I don't see any reason why LoTR would have a significantly different ratio then AoC?? And it looks like in the next week AoC will almost certainly drop below LoTR. How many subs does LoTR have?? Does anyone know? Even so I'd guess that AoC will have more subs then Xfire would reflect since people stop playing usually before their accounts expire and when people are leaving the sub numbers would logically be higher then the player numbers would indicate... |

Technically I am still a subscriber of AoC, seeing I in my great hope of the game signed up for 6 months. So I will be a subscriber until december this year. The true fact however is I have quit. I have not been logging in for weeks now. My question is, they got 400k subscribers. I wonder if there are many people like me out there, signing up for a 6 month period in great expectaion of the game, only to be dissapointed by it.

I had alot of expectations too, but I knew there where somthing that smelled funny. Had been in the open beta, and it seems the communication was very bad from beta tester to Funcom devs. You never got any feedback if your points was viewed as valid. Thats a bad sign. Anyway I bought the CE edition and subscribed for 1 month. I never got the free month I was supposed to get ^^, didnt come to be as a suprise. But I was tired of the whole game before that anyway. |
