1. Go back to World of Grindfest. Sounds like your cup of tea. 2. True story: friend of mine hates all MMOs. Never stuck with one of them since I've known him (around 1996). I'm not sure what gets his attention in an MMO. He tried EQ. Quit within days. He quit playing WoW after 1 day. City of Heroes - he played to around level 32 and called it a grind. Somehow he gets into the WAR closed beta and tells me that he has had more fun with WAR than any MMO so far and will be ordering the game to play with me and my kids. This from a person who usually hates MMOs. 3. WoW PVP is pure crap. The arena system is a pimpfest ween contest for people who have no life or too much money. You can basically buy your way to a rating if you have enough gold and offer to pay the right class combination to help. Speaking of classes, the game is so screwed up as far as balance goes, with some classes totally dominating Arena and others totally sucking. Its also completely boring to play the same battleground over and over and over again for no other reason than to get some fat lewtz gear. There is no teamwork there and no realm pride. WoW promotes a selfish player down to the bone. 4. BC totally destroyed classic WoW and the gear/zones that go along with it. The old zones are very well done - but they are ghost towns now because the game is so gear-based there is no reason to waste your time there. You can simply go to BC and do some quests or hit the auction house and buy a green that is better than the hard-earned gear you got in classic WoW. That was real smart. So is it more of the same in the next expansion? I guess that grind is what some of you look for, but I prefer something more goal-based. 5. A new game comes out with better graphics than WoW, different and better PVP than WoW by far and from a company that made one of my all-time favorite MMOs (DAOC). Damn right I'm going to quit playing WoW. I have 3 level 70s all decked out in WoW and I cancelled my account a month ago. I'll never go back. I honestly don't believe you are in closed beta. I'm not even sure why I wasted my time on this troll post other than I was half asleep this morning and thought it was a bunch of BS. |

quoting: Subutai22 Whoa your way off. Although im somewhat entertained, the truth couldnt be any further. My anger isnt childhood and perhaps anger may have been a poor choice in words. However since you did bring it up, i am angry at the fact that MMO companies spend millions to create half backed games while Gas prices go up, food prices go up and we have a REAL WAR going on all while REAL men and women serving this country die!!! Then those same companies pay salaries that are out of the charts YET a large portion of schools are cutting down on bus stops to save gas, books are being recycled and chalk boards are old and broken! So yeah id say im angry at the stupidity of what MMO industry as become and whats worse are the 'fanbui's' that follow it!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hey, it was just a guess. I also understand your anger at the world for being dog eat dog, where the little guy is crushed by the corporate machine. I also understand there is a real conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan (I work for the US Federal Government in an IT procurement capacity). I do think there is a bit of personal humor on my part when you complain about a 20 million dollar investment in a 3 year MMO development project. Since I am part of a team doing very large (1 Billion dollar range) IT project, I can't help but think in my "industry" that is relatively small potatoes IT development wise. Understanding how far 20 million dollars doesn't go lets me appreciate how much Mythic is delivering for the investment of capital. I have also lived in Fairfax county (where Mythic's offices are) and I understand the cost of living in the area and the corresponding price they have to pay for IT tallent in the Washington DC metro region. From my admittedly limited closed beta experience (just less than a week) I am impressed with what they have managed for the cost they have invested. Mythic has always impressed me as a more player involved company than many. I don't think they are making a perfect game with WAR, but I do think I will enjoy playing it. I don't worry about whether it will dominate the market, or "kill" WoW. As a bit of history I've had fun playing WoW, EQ, EQ2, City of Heroes, City of Villians, D&D Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Lord of the RIngs Online, EVE online, and even Vanguard. Games that disappointed me, or didn't suit my playing style were there in my past as well. Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa, Saga of Ryzom, Hellgate: London, Asheron's Call, Lineage II, and auto assault. Many of these had/have good hype, but just didn't turn out to be enjoyable for me. Knowing what I know about my gaming tastes now, I can predict from player reaction, and industry buzz which games I'll like with pretty good accuracy. I did not think Age of Conan would be enjoyable for me as I don't enjoy most console style fighting mechanics. I knew that the Matrix Online was critically rushed to cash in on a "hot" Inteletual Property. I understood that Star Wars Galaxies was a poor exploration of the Star Wars universe. I knew that Pirates of the Burning Sea held little interest based on the subject matter. On games comming out in the future I'm oh so cautious to figure out what actual players are saying about the game before I jump in and buy. For example I'm reserving judgement on Star Trek online for the moment until more info comes out. Now that you know a bit of my history, let me make my point. In no instance did I go trolling forums for the games I knew I wasn't going to like complaining about them. I have on rare occasions given some comparitive feedback about the implementation of a mechanic in a game, but I didn't come and spread hate to rile all the fanboys who do enjoy the game. Check the forums on the games I didn't care for, and you'll see no negative posting from me. I hope this helps. |

OP: i'm guessing you play WoW. What's so amazing about that? 10 Manning Kara? Everyone playing DK? Playing an arcane mage? what did I like about WoW. I LOVED The old school 16 hour AV battles. In WAR: I personally enjoy assaulting the keeps. I love the back and forth of war. Taking out a ram and battering down the door while having oil dumped on you is EPIC. Being healed through a BW barrage and using my shield to knock back the opposing army kicks ass! I don't know perhaps it's just me but I love this game. |

If the "GAME" doesnt cure cancer or its not the second comming then its crap. I think people like that do not have enough interesting things goin on in their real life and put all their hopes and dreams into videogames. They want Devs to fill that empty void in their life and expect the devs to make something out of this world. No game will please people like that because the issue is with them and not the gaming industry/community. |

Originally posted by GreenChaos Oh here's another thing. If there is something you want in the game. Press the feedback button. The Devs ACTUALLY LISTEN. Just dont act like a spoiled 12 year old "ZOMG BW are SO op with the AOE, I cant kill healerz". So if you're playing, and you don't like the game it's your own fault. The game has changed a TON since early betas, based on constructive feedback. |

And yes we will hit the new everyone thinks its great faze. Even AoC had that for a week. Then we will hear all the complainers in the first two months thinking every MMO should be costumed tailored just for them. |

Correction noted, I was using an unverified figure that was floating about in another post, and I did not think that $20 mil was the actual investment amount that Mythic is working from as most companies do not advertise their development costs. Have nice day. |

If you played and loved DAoC, you need no explanation. If you never played DAoC, no explanation will be good enough.

I'm looking forward to WAR, but hopefully the main reason people are posting that they like WAR isn't because it's like DAoC. And if it is, hopefully it's just the RvR that makes WAR resemble DAoC. I think the concept that WAR seems to be trying to drive is 'community'. That's what WoW really doesn't do at all. WoW is a game that promotes the success of the individual or the very few. I think WAR is looking to reward players for individual achievements, but it's also looking to create a 'less me/more we' mindset, an 'us vs them' mindset. I like that.

Let me also add if you think WoW pvp is RVR you are in for a shock when you find out there are few stragglers in battle. So don't think it's 1v1. It isnt. I ll get on the agreeing bandwagon. If you played DAOC you ll know without a doubt how different WOW and WAR are. I remember a friend who played WOW religiously and vowed to play it forever. I said hey come try this out. He comes to my house as i m playing DAOC, i let him make a char and level up but he watched me play a keep take with my Skald. He then says ok teach me how to play the Skald. I show him for a better part of a day, then he takes over, groups up and we were on a Albion romp on classic cluster. We were after a relic which he had no idea about. Anyways within 10 minutes of the first keep take, he says to me, since you re in WAR beta is this anything like WAR. I say yep alot of similarities but some differences, for the better IMO. He then proceeded to play through even up to the RR. He then turns to me nd says i ll be right back. 20 Minutes later he shows me his receipt for WAR pre order and logs onto my comp to cancel his WOW account. Then takes over my comp to play more DAOC lol. Anywyas it won t be lik that for everyone but i think some can get the idea. |

Way I see it, and I'm not in beta. Most mmorpgs have lot of pve, some economy and crafting and ducktaped pvp. (WOW) A few mmorpgs have a lot of pve, ellaborate economy and crafting, and still some ducktaped pvp. (SWG) War has a lot of pve, ellaborate pvp (rvr), and ducktaped economy and crafting.
