No.
There aren't any good sandboxes on the market right now IMO. Eve doesnt count because you have to be a cold piece of textured metal floating in a vacuum of space instead of a character. |

First, please learn to slow down and correct typo's in your sentances. Second, no it's not a sand box game. It's a well developed linier story based MMO. It come's with a free trial so why dont you try it out? |

It was planned as a sandbox called Middle Earth Online, but as soon as WoW was successful the entire game was revamped and turned into LotRO. |

It's pretty much anti-sandbox. A lot of instancing, a lot of scripted events and missions, a lot of "Sit back and watch the story...OK, we can fight now." This doesn't mean I don't like it. I am enjoying working through the unfolding plot and find the pacing of quests/XP gain to be just about perfect. However, SWG/UO/EVE, it ain't. |

Ok first what's wrong with the word typo? Second I’m not talking about little mistakes like putting an a instead of an e in sentence. The OP butchered his whole post. You have to agree. If you don’t then your just being argumentative. |

This game is as far from sandbox as you could possibly get.

Two things: 1.) I said there arent any GOOD sandboxes on the market now IMO. Eve is a sandbox, granted, but In my very very humble opinion it is not a good one because my character has no legs with which to jump. I need legs before its a good MMO. You cant put on pink shoes without feet, and I hate outer space unless I can run around the spaceship decorating it. 2.) A spaceship is a metal chunk of electronics floating in space. (as far as I am concerned)
Lotro is a good game. It is fun. It has player designed music, it has .. ahem.. "housing" (no matter how inferior), it has fun emotes, it has an outfit system that is super, and a very very beautiful game world. It is not a sandbox. It is a theme park. Therefore if you get tired of being a healer, you cant drop your skills and decide to be a burglar. Three cheers to the next game designer that can incorporate all the good things about Lotro and put them in a skill based, open, do-anything kind of sandbox game. |

This game is not a sandbox but you can go where you want when you want. In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect. |

Yes LotrO is FAR from being a sandbox game! But... It actually is alot more "sandboxy" than other linear mmos such as WoW, AoC or the upcoming WAR (in my opinion) If WoW = The Beatles |

That's completely understandable. Originally posted by geetornsage If you're seriously, seriously depressed then there are things you should be doing besides looking for a good mmo. They can be a fun way to pass the time and meet interesting people from all over the world, but I wouldn't expect to find the meaning of life in any of them. Sandbox-wise, Istaria isn't entirely awful. The graphics are very old, the load times are incredibly long and the game is very solo-oriented combat-wise, but it is super-sandboxy. Their building system is pretty unreal - never seen anything that comes close to it. They probably still have the free trial going. Ryzom isn't bad either, though it's not currently open. There are games in development that might interest you, eg. Darkfall. But like others have pointed out, the sandbox scene is a bit quiet at the moment in mmo-world. |

You do not use an apostrophe to indicate plurals. Apostrophes are used to indicate contractions (It's==It is) or possessives (The bee's knees). It is not used to warn the reader that an 's' might be coming. Also, it should be "you're just being", that is, "You are just being". "Your" is used to indicate possession, again, "This is your boat". On the other hand, you *could* have said "Ur just being", so, props for not doing that. It is a fundamental rule of the internet that any post critiquing grammar or spelling will, itself, contain such errors. It is unavoidable. I just found your (not you're) post especially amusing. And of course I'm being argumentative. This is the Internet. (And I know you shouldn't start sentences with and. But I do it anyway. Also, you shouldn't start sentences with but. The irony continues to mount...)

It is NOT a Sandbox. HOWEVER, unless your a fan of the Lord of the Rings book you should probably avoid LOTRO. Apart from maybe the music system (which is a minor thing, no matter how fun it is) this game does not offer anything new. That being said, the environments ARE lovely. Tried: WoW |

For years after WOW was out it was still planned as a sandbox by vinvidia with turbine developing it. When turbind bought the license they took the game a differant direction cause they wanted to. Had nothing to do with WOW. sorry to burst your bubble.

Do people even know what a 'sandbox' style game is? Apparently not since they keep asking for one. A sandbox is an open environment where you build the entertainment. Something such as Second Life. UO is fairly sandbox, no quests. SWG was sandbox, again no questing just running around exploring. Know what? SWG sucked at release, there was NOTHING to do except craft and explore huge empty areas.
A sandbox MMO is one with just a world and nothing to do in it except explore. Thankfully LOTRO has nearly limitless activities and goals to accomplish. If you want LOTRO to be sandbox, just avoid all the developer made goals and create your OWN! The vast majority of the world is entirely open for you to explore and sandbox. Take your sandbox to the three Trolls turned to stone from the books and have a tea party. YEAH! Sandbox play!
