That is all well and fine. But without other infomation and in the context of other marketing but no confirmation due to the NDA it is also a very good way to deceive and bait and switch people.
Many people also look at the Open Beta as a way to see if the Devs are really doing what they say they are doing.
I have a low opinion of the Open Beta process. But I also have a low opinion of the MMO reviewers. We need look no farther than AoC's reviews to see just how badly badly off they are.
So we need some way to verify what the real state of the game is. And the limits on the OB, however practical and reasonable, are also clear obstructions to this.
So we either need the NDA lifted or we need a longer and less restricted Open Beta. Otherwise we are simply being chumps.
I do not really see why a long and unrestricted Open Beta is in Mythics business interests. But they need to give us some way to vet things otherwise this is all just marketing sleight of hand. And I post that with the intention of implying the sneakiness and misdirection that it does.
Their is an NDA. There is purposely hidden and incomplete knowledge. We have to use a functional approach. If they walk like a duck and quack like a duck we must assume its a duck until they show us their duck costumes.
When they show me their duck costume then that will be fine. Until then if they do weasel things then they are weasels. See what happens tomorrow when the NDA drops then. ;) |

Eh, it's understandable the concerns some have after what they went through with Funcom. The differences have been stated though. One, the NDA will be lifted soon. I believe this week was their aim. Two, the little tidbits whether through leak or by testers saying what they are capable of under the NDA differs. With AoC folks were not sounding very positive while WAR's have been sounding the complete opposite. Both are important factors especially the NDA. So saying they have something to hide is a stretch. AoC never lifted it's NDA while Mythic will be doing so shortly so you can hear straight from other gamers. Edit: Oh and stop the comparisons on the 20 levels in open beta. AoC has 80 levels while Mythic is 40. So you're talking a whole different stage in these games at that point. |

It makes no difference to me... because of Vangard I didn't pre-order... because of AoC I won't be playing for at least 2 weeks after launch. Let them iron out the kinks and get a few patches and hot fixes in before I'll commit myself. There are always issues on every software launch, if you expect it you aren't disappointed and if there isn't any problems you can be pleasantly surprised. |

Originally posted by gestalt11 I will say one thing. If someone is going to be that critical about a video game, don't pre-order it. Wait a few weeks for some of the information to flow out then make your judgment. Being in beta and have been in beta a while, everything SHOULD be fine but don't let my opinions influence yours. It's a Jeep thing. . .

I pre-ordered the CE and kind of expected to be in some form of BETA (open or closed) by now. I set that expectation, EA-Mythic didn't. One week is enough time. I'm okay with that. I've just been playing the hell out of WoW and COD4 trying to pass the time until WAR launches. I'm about sick to death of those games and I want something else to spend some time on.

I never pre-order MMOs.
I acutally have a rather good but rough idea of what the quality is like. I have talked to people in the Closed Beta while in other games.
I do however put a lot of stock in how a company who runs an MMO behaves. And if they do shady things I generally delay my purchase a month or so for each one. Or never buy it at all.
But since it looks like MJ is saying the NDA will be dropped tomorrow then that is fine. I am sure there will be some people who are very critical of the game. I do not expect their arguments will be all that influential on me. But I am definitely interested to see if they can make any good points, |

You don't need the OB to decide if you want to play the game or not anyways. As soon as the NDA drops (MJ has said tomorrow) you will have access to information on the entirety of the game by the CB testers. They'll be able to tell you everything. And that's more than enough to decide. Besides, WoW only gives a 10-day trial, yet people seem perfectly happy with this |

Ahh even though the date is bad news. I'm so enjoying this cause you people kept thinking that the open beta would be a month or 3weeks. If you even tried to read up on what mark jacobs said on the forums you would have known that they did not plan more then 2 weeks open beta. Now because of the preview weekend they are down 1 week. Aahhh time for you all to eat that shit and swallow it. |

yup looks like another AoC Scheme. I will wait to see how it goes before buying it. Then you get the fanboys spamming you dont need a beta to test a game.. wich is old news. Failcom did the same cos they knew already theyd be screwing the costumers so paid a bunch of guys to come to the forums spamm how good the beta was and how nice the wonderful fairytale world is. Same crap. |

Also starting the Open Beta the same day that Spore launches is an interesting thing to do... I mean I know that it's not exactly the same target audience or anything, but still. |

The fact you have a problem with this shows your lack of knowledge of MMOs before AoC or atleast before WoW. Kinda Sad but whatever we won't miss babies. Yep, that's right. When LOTRO opened, the Preorder Open Beta I think was about 10 days. You could keep your characters, but the Level Cap was about 15, I believe. (Details are getting foggy, but I believe it was something like that.) Anyway, September 7 for Open Beta, then Head Start on September 12 sounds fine to me. Pretty much par for the course. And, most of the whiners who say they will cancel their preorders ... won't. They just whine that they will. And in the future, everytime Mythic patches the game or does anything the whiners don't like (which will be ALL the time), they will whine that they will cancel their subscriptions ... but they won't. Although, naturally, we hope they do.
