"This Space For Rent"

So I got an e-mail from FC today, as a former Anarchy Online player, offering me a free trial to AoC...

I read the email and, got a good chuckle out of this paragraph:

"Since the launch two months ago, Age of Conan has enjoyed a tremendous success. The game has been #1 on the PC charts everywhere, and it's already one of the most popular MMO's out there. Fuelled by a solid launch, some very strong review scores and great player feedback, Hyboria is bristling with fun and life, but we still miss you!"

I feel like sending an email with that quoted paragraph in it saying "... if only I lived under a rock and didn't know the *true* state of the game, that might have actually convinced me".

Fun stuff.

I see the marketing spin is still in full effect. Pathetic after even the CEO is leaving the sinking ship.

October/November = death of AOC and FailCOM

Yes AoC has over the last several months enjoyed a tremendous success at becoming the WORST MMO in history.

Grats Failcom for being the worst

At least you got #1 at something lol.

My fingers hurt from video games :(

Did they still want to make you pay $3 for it? XD

lol.

"We are emailing you to notify you that you have been pre-emptively banned from the official forums. This applies to Age of Conan and Anarchy Online."

It is kinda sad, though. They are responsible for at least 1 of my favorite games, "The Longest Journey". And Dreamfall was a very good game, too, in my opinion. Both have received solid rave reviews and earned a very loyal following.

Maybe they'd do well to just leave themselves with Anarchy Online as their online game, and stick with single-player games going forward.

I mean, even Sega eventually realized they were  better off getting out of the console market and dealing purely with software. It's done well for them as far as I can tell.

Naw ,but you have to give em a credit card number and click the one (1) three (3) or six (6) month recurring sub.

Was gonna give them a try since i have never played either in beta or since live. But not if i have to give em my cc info.  Oh well, maybe there will be a real trial eventually that does not need a CC card to get.

Jeez come on. The next step in their plan of faking high subscription numbers. A big word of advice to you who actually give em your CC information. Remove those ASAP after you have gotten the account activated. Wouldnt be surprised to see some "accidental" charges of credit cards on the trial accounts. Even better, dont try this game and risk being ripped off. It's a waste of time no matter if you like the game or not cause if this game survives there will be a MMO Nobel price won by Funcom.

They must have one of those in their cupboard already, then, given that AO is still alive and healthy.

Those trial things crack me up. I fail to see the "trial" part of handing out your CC number and (possibly still) paying to download the client  - can't they afford hosting it? Not enough bandwidth to seed a torrent? Nothing at all?
