Hi im on trail but im going to subscribe when i can.

I just have some questions.

1. do i have too craft things or can i just hunt and play. and make it on the things i sell from drops?

2. I dont really get the harvesting skills, if someone can tell me wich is best to get or how some of them work i be happy to listen.

3. I have a fighter, is my role always going to be tank even if i build it like a dps.

4. light, medium, heavy armor what is best for what?

Thanks!

1: you do not have to craft or forage at all if you do not want to. But foraging in Ryzom is an awesome skill-- you can die while extracting materials -- it could be considered a battle. However it is a grind to get to lev 250.

2: Foraging, you want to harvest the next highest 10th Quality. So get actions that let you do that. so if your skill level 10 you want the Q20 extact actions. Then the extraction rate and extraction speed and Counterparts. Of course more Focus, Focus regen, and Self heal focus. For prospecting the nodes extended range, extended cone angle, multiply spots, accelerated spots, accelerated prospecting, find better materials and knowledge are all good -- probably in that order. Tracking and Material specialization skills are usually best left till you have extra skill points for them .

Of course experiment with the actions when you get them, create your own actions too. You'll get your own method going pretty fast, well sort of, I haven't really stopped learning and I got 2 dig masters.

3: I'm trying to think of how you could equip a fighter to be one or the other. DPS is controlled by weapon. Ability to take damage is controlled Armor and jewels. Of course I guess you could go 1 handed weapon and have a shield for extra damage taking ability to be a better tanker but its not done much. And you could wear medium armor or light armor to reduce action costs to be able to hit longer without heals at the same DPS.

As for your role, usually fighters pull and tank but it doesn't have to be. If there is a 2nd fighter he can taunt to be the tank regardless of who pulls. Some mages are even good at pulling, just taunt the mob off him when he brings it. Ryzom allows a lot of creativity as to how to do things.

4: Heavy Armor gets a HP bonus equal to Quality besides the normal boost, can mitigate physicl damage between 40% and 60%, but has high Malus that makes actions cost more.

Light Armor just gets the normal boost, can mitigate physical damage between 0% and 20%, and has no Malus.

Medium Armor gets a HP bonus equal to half the Quality besides the normal boost, mitigate physical damge beteween 20% and 40%, and has some Malus to make actions cost a bit more.

HA -- fighters; MA-- range;; LA-- casters;; No Armor-- fun or Zee showing off in videos(takes his vest off). But no hard and fast rule here.

1. I'm going to disagree a little bit with Tuyet. I think some crafting is essential, to make money.

You can definitely play the game (as in fight stuff) without crafting. Absolutely. Most guilds will already have members able to craft whatever gear you need.

However, harvesting, crafting and then selling your goods to vendors is the easiest way to make money. It's been a while, but as I recall, mobs tend not to drop money in any appreciable quantities?

2. They are hard to understand at first and I've been too long out of the game to try to explain the intricacies.

Nor do I think the tutorial area, Silan, covered this terribly well.

I only properly understood it when a guildie took me out harvesting, and showed me exactly how it worked.

My advice, is that once you get into the game, ask someone if they'll take you out harvesting and show you how it works. It doesn't take long to understand when someone with higher level crafting skills can demonstrate a few things about harvesting that you just can't see for yourself with your own very low harvesting skills.

3. Whether you're a 'tank' depends entirely on if you choose to taunt a mob. The only other factor to consider is if you're wearing a shield - which takes up a weapon slot.

4. Armour...

Like Tuyet said, choosing to eg. wear medium armour rather than heavy will give you a lower defence and make your attacks cheaper, but this is a false economy if you're in a team. Other players can instantly heal your stamina to full so wearing heavy armour only really hurts your stamina when you're solo'ing.

Heavy armour - melee'ers

Light armour - casters, crafters, harvesters

Medium armour - varies

Ranged weapon users can use any of the armour types, depending on what they're doing. If solo'ing they'll generally use medium or even light armour for the cheaper stamina cost of attacks. In groups or for outpost battles, I think they mostly wear heavy armour.

Melee'ers can also switch down to medium or light armour if solo'ing, depending on what they're killing.

Casters can move up to medium armour if solo'ing, but few players do this. Casting while wearing heavy armour is not something you can do for very long - though some casters will wear light armour and just a heavy armour helmet for outpost battles.

actually need to modify what I said

Light Armor; casters, harvesters, and boost crafting

Nude; grind crafting

Also you'll make enough dappers just selling mats that drop off mobs. And if you forage but do not craft you will make plenty of dappers selling your mats.

The suggestion to have an experienced forager show you how its done is excellent. Foraging is just complicated and easier shown some details than explained.

Range weapons are sold on the ramge weapon merchants but your probably best off to ask if you can get one made for you. However you probably will want to craft your own ammo if you do a range weapon skill.

Also if you are still on the island of Silan there is no ranged weapon vendor IIRC.

Thought I'ld take the time to explain how focus is used during an extraction and regained afterwards.

When you complete a successful extraction, all the focus used during the extraction is regained. You can cast prospecting actions during an extraction to pop nodes for your next extraction. If you do a self heal focus during an extraction you will not get any benefit from it once the extraction is complete -- just the extra focus during the extraction.

Not sure exactly when one can take advantage of this, just experiment and see if you can do a prospecting action after getting a mat and before the extraction ends.

A successful extraction is an extraction that extracts at least 1 mat of Q1 or higher.

Prospecting or Tracking actions used outside of an extraction do use focus.

This game mechanic actually works very well so diggers don't have to sit around waiting for their focus to regen after every dig.
