As far as something living up to or not living up to hype, the solution is easy. Don't believe the hype. You can believe a growning trend of positive reaction to a game based on first hand experience from independent sources, what you can't believe is that a features list or marketing from a manufacturer have any meaning in terms of how fun a game is going to be. If you require a level of certainty before investing your hard earned money into a product, then wait for the independent reviews to come out after release. Don't trust any reviewer who works for a company which makes a ton of money off advertisement placement from the game industry. It really is that simple. Do some reasearch, know the types of products you like, and the people whose opinions you trust on the product. I hope this helps. |

I took the road less traveled by and that has made all the difference. |

I guess none of us will truly know until the game hits Open Beta and Live. I have high hopes though, the game has a lot of elements that I'd love to see work out. Looking forward to : Guild Wars 2 |

I am not in beta, but my feeling tells me, it will be good for a certain audience, and those kind of people will love it. But for many others it will be a rude awakening. WAR, unlike WOW or other popular MMOs, is heavily centred around PVP, so I think PVE will be much more an appendix than anything else. That, plus the apparent lack of gear-centered game WAR seems to be, I think many will be dissapointed. Not that I expect WAR to be bad, far from it, but I do think it is for a very special target audience, and those will be the ones to stay after the hype is gone. Like AoC or VG it wont be something for everyone. But as I said, thats just my gut feeling. |

Trying to predict how this will go at launch is sort of futile right now. It's hard to get much of a feel for the game with the NDA still holding much of the beta impressions up. I will say that I don't think their choice to release before the WoW expansion is bad. As a consumer, I know what I want out of a game, and if Warhammer is really a good product, I won't bother with the WoW expansion. It's a risk they're taking based on how much they believe in their product. To put it out this close before WoW's expansion makes me think they have faith in it. |

Personally I think there are close to 11 million people playing WoW and a very sizable chunk of them are just waiting for a new game, any game, to deliver a decent play experience. By that I mean a few million people. It doesn't matter when WOTLK launches, people want something new. People are going to try warhammer sooner or later regardless of WOTLK if they are hungry for a new game.
The only way warhammer will not get a very very respectable population is if it launches before it is ready. Even as much as people want a new game they will just go right back to WoW if the new games launch sucks and most will never look back.

The only people who are worried about the cuts at all are either people looking for a reason to bash the game or people who really wanted to play one of those classes. Losing the cities cut 0 content, the only difference is you can siege 1 city instead of having a choice of 3. The actual amount of dungeons, mobs etc in the game didn't change one bit. Losing the classes hurts but it is actually more balanced now than before. Before they had 14 melee classes and 10 ranged classes, now it is 10 of each. It is very hard to build 6 unique melee DPS and 6 unique tanks in one game so personally it doesn't bother me much at all. |

I just read that and found it kind of amusing because for me EVE is the very thing that has made me decide that I will not be bothering with WAR.......but then its different for me as I have only been playing it for a month. I was quite hyped about WAR at first but the fact that the players are so incredibly limited in what they can be and do (eg wanna be a human mage? Well fire is ya lot matee!) was always something that niggled me. I want variety and choice in my games and WAR just doesnt have it. In fact I was only interested in WAR because there was nothing better in the pipeline. I was begginning to give up on mmos in general actually because they all just seem to be so simplistic and brainless but then I decided to give EVE a go and.....well.....it raised the bracket for me. Now I just cant imagine going over to a cookie-cutter level-based game like WAR. Its just gonna be a replacement for all the burnt out WoW players anyway. I'm just gonna sit tight with EVE and hope that someone makes a decent game with the same level of complexity and depth. Fingers crossed. il probably will not end my eve account. i always say i do...but then i find myself subscribing a week later. |

Well, WAR can't be worse than AoC, honestly. And at least the guys behind WAR have shown that they are able to deliver good PvP/RvR with DAoC which I currently prefer again over all the so-called next generation MMOGs. |

The beta lives up to the hype so that should say something. |

I feel WAR will do well , from what I saw/read it looks like the game focus is FUN, where many MMORPG's take themselves a ti bit to serious losing focus on one of the most important aspects of a game to me which is FUN. We just have to wait and see..... ------------------------------------------------------------ |

Why would someone who likes EVE and its take forever to do anything enjoy a fast paced game? They are two COMPLETELY different games so your opinion has NO merit. |

People forget that there have been a lot of released games that didn't disappoint. LOTRO being the most recent. Its not the players fault AoC, VG, D&L released steaming piles of manure. If WAR is polished there won't be the "forum trolls coming from the mountains". If WAR releases like VG or AoC you will see that. Otherewise, you will see people posting if they like the game or not, instead of flaming. |

I expect a lot of unhappy people. WAR is supposed to be the savior to all those bored with WoW. Hype is too high to make most of them happy. Personally my expectations are pretty middle of the road, mainly because of the pvp centric focus of the game. Just not for me. I expect these forums to be an interesting place after release. /popcorn |
