No, Imperial commander, Nair does not come in wookie size. We do have an ewok 6 pack though |
Or as I like to say *My damed crystal ball is cloudy* Well, I see many things in favor of and against SOE shutting down. But after the list, I think I have one compelling reason it might stay open past a "reasonable point" of shut down. 1) LA has backed a different company for what is really the sequal to a Star Wars MMO. Insert Bioware here. I will be seeing the new Star Wars movie when it comes out, and I think it's good money this is when the announcement of the new game will be. 2) Subscription levels. They are sub par to be honest, but the earlier mentioned rational of using it as a gateway game to try and get people to try other games on the station pass does sound plausible (same with a few others on it) and I think overcomes this factor. 3) Typical "save the game" tactics not fully done yet. The previously mentioned server merges, or free transfers have not happened yet, which would seem to indicate they are not at the end of the typical tactics yet. Now, one interresting idea as to why keep the game open. I ask one question, have they not evolved the SWG to their "basic game engine"? so they can drop whatever modification in, have it glitch in this game, work out the bugs, then add it to any other game they have (Agency anyone?) This new vehicle mod I think maybe just that, a trial run of the scripting for a different game. This way, they do not have to worry about NDAs for external testing of in development games, and heck, they make a few bucks because they have people paying to play their test bed. Just my observation and tin foil hat guesses. Have a good day. |

Ah my favorite brain soup: cream of no where. What''s the matter kid, don''t you like clowns? |
SWG will be up for 10 more years - Sony just hates the vet population that much....

"Denial does not change reality." |
I never thought $OE would completley shut down SWG since it provides fluff for the Station Access Pass. A game does not have to be shut down to be 'dead' either, and we certainly can see the dead and dying servers that makes up the majority of the 26 or so servers. If $OE really wants to attract and RETAIN players, both old and new, they must put transfers and/or server merges to the top of their 'To Do' list. They have been hoping for a significant increase in players numbers since the inception of the NGE, and those numbers have not been realized, nor will they ever be. To keep clinging to that false hope by not fast-tracking and resolving the low-population issue will conteract anything positive the devs add to the game. I don't see SWG really fluctuating much from the small population now. When the new Star Wars MMO is released, there may be a considerable dip in active players, but not to the point where SWG is not a worthy fluff addition to help fill out the Station Pass. Also, SWG provides a wonderful training ground for dev nooblings where they can regularly be 'farmed' for other more lucrative projects. |

Yes, the only reason SOE keeps the game going is to spite the so-called "vets." Get over yourself. |

SOE = Penny-Wise but millions-stupid. I bet they have a go at their employees for making personal phone calls at their desks but think nothing of hemoraging money on unpopulated servers.

With the MMO graveyard errrrr Station Pass a game can probably stay live with almost no subscriptions for a very long time. There are SO many bad MMOs offered on the Station Pass that as long as people want quantity over quality, there will always be some revenue.
