This post was recently published on the Ryzom forums re the formation of a team of volunteer translators.

I take this as a positive sign that they're actively seeking to expand the playerbase.

... or "We've already ran out of money, HELP!"

The Ryzom community should really look at the mirror and think what caused the mainland player retention ratio of maybe 1%, probably less. I don't really believe the client localisation was the issue. The nowadays  smug, small and self centered community Ryzom has seems to be too entrenched to the game "tailored" for them, they have forgotten the 95%+ of playerbase that have been driven away for one reason or other.

Nevrax/GF should have done the same as WoW seems to be doing, questionnaire about the reasons for cancelled accounts. Hope the present company does that and is able to steer the game away from the present ultra-niche status, still keeping the mechanics which make the game unique.

Dreamer, dream me a gift.

Heh..... I don't feel overly positive over such an announcement before they even introduce themselves to us... Here's my repost from the Ryzom forums:

I'm posting this here because obviously I can't post in the General Forums, but I am a bit taken aback by such an announcement. Why are they asking people to apply for a position to work for them when we have no definite answers or announcements on who they are? I don't like blind dates and I sure as heck wouldn't go for volunteer work or a job not knowing about the company and who was involved. Hints I don't think are good enough.

Overreaction? I don't know, but it seems odd to me, I like to have my cards on the table. :/

As some of you may know now, I usually ooze optimism, but this doesn't impress me very much.

The wisdom of hindsight is always flawless

They certainly should.

It's not just WoW that does this. It's a fairly standard mmo convention. I've also suggested (in other threads) that the new owners should do this.

There are a range of fairly obvious problems that could explain the past subscription problems, but a survey would be a quick and relatively cheap way for them to pinpoint those.

I take this as a promising sign because up until a month ago there were still a lot of people who thought Ryzom wasn't going to re-open at all - that it had been purchased eg. just for the code. And there are some current threads going where doomsayers are proclaiming the new owners will do nothing with the game but keep the servers going.

This call for translators is a sign that they're treating Ryzom as a serious, profitable venture - an attitude that bodes well for us players.
