I know this probably isn't the best place to post this but I don't know anywhere else and I figured everyone here must know something about computers to run eq2. Well when I first bought my computer a year ago I was getting around 100+ kb/s on downloads and now I cap at around 25-28 kb/s. My internet connection is still the same as when I got it so I tried a system recovery to see if it was because I had too much on my computer and I have the same problem. For the first few seconds of a download I'll get like 50 k/bs and then it'll just wined down and hang around 28 kb/s. Anyone know why it's doing this? |

Cynical? Me? Never. |
What type of connection are you using? DSL, phone or cable?
Go to www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ to test your speed. Post results with your type of connection.
Many times its not your computer or connection, its the server you're downloading from. |

Alright I got 229 kbps download speed and 212 upload speed. I have DSL and I don't think the server is the problem because I get the same results from everything I download. Youtube, Eq2 ect. |

Then I really have no clue. On that server you were getting 229 KBPS instead of 50 or less.
Are you downloading more than 1 file at a time? That will lower your speed. Also, youtube is pretty packed, so you won't get great download speeds. Its possible DSL sucks. I use cable, and get up to 1MB if the server is good. A lot of times I max out at 200-300kbps due to the server not being fast enough.
Sorry I couldn't help. |

Said at the bottom that 229 kbps translates into 28.6 kb/s like I was getting. I guess DSL just sucks. |

I think their package is 10 or 12 meg download now. Normally if you take the speed advertised and /8 that's gonna be your throughput on a good server. As to the speed difference between 2 different sites.. if they are in different locations it could be the route you are taking to get to the server.. ie: there is a hardware problem along the way. Personally 229kbs download would be a decent speed on dsl.. unless you had a very high speed package. 229kbs throughput wouldn't equate to 28k speed.. 28k would be modem speed and about 2 or 3 kbs transfer. Sounds to me like you are on a 2 or 3 meg dsl speed... You'll have to forgive me its been a long time since I tried to remember how to explain this stuff and most of what i remember is from when 300 baud modems were normal and 1200 baud was whoot. |

| "We already have two operating MMOs. We launched a game called Ultima Online in 1997. It's still got hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Then there's Dark Age of Camelot, we also have a situation where we have well over 100,000 subscribers." -Frank Gibeau of Electronic Arts. Does it seem odd that UO has more subscribers than the best RvR game on the market? |

I get 28.6 kb transfer is what I meant. I guess I'll just have to get a provider other than AT&T. |
