I'll be completely honest, I kinda liked AoC's combat system, but the balance between classes due to missing or broken class mechanics countered that achievement. I enjoyed the graphics, but the fact it didn't launch with DX10 available as suggested defeated that purpose. I anticipated the glory of sieging other player's cities only to find out it wasn't anywhere near ready so guess what? Another pointless boast by FunCom. Leveling was a breeze thanks to countless quests, but end game raiding areas were... lacking. Sure we had Borderlands to fall back on in case of a boredom crunch.... NOT!! OMG FunCom sucks, AoC sucks and I feel sorry for people who are still playing it in it's current condition. WAR will be out before FunCom can even implement the things they promised at launch, so you know what that means. FunCom's AoC is hereby taking a dive into the Vanguard / SWG graveyard. |

Leveling in Age of Conan is one of the easiest out of any game I have played so far. |

I can understand where you're coming from OP. On these boards as of late it has gotten horrid. After all, at the end of the day to us players it is still just a game. Most of us don't have stock in these companies other than our initial investment of their product and no one forces our hand in doing so. At the same time some of those who rant about the game have a point in their viewpoints as well. They can't be totally dismissed. Granted some folks get carried away and seem to make it their life to bad mouth a game/company but if you scan through some posts you get the idea of the problems that may be in the game. With all that said I can say I still play AoC for the time being. So I will try to be constructive in my opinions as I don't hate on no company/game nor do the fanboy thing. I just want to enjoy the game. So in your initial point about remembering WoW, I do. I was there on launch and still have a subscription though I haven't played it really since AoC launch. The launch was not the greatest for WoW but it wasn't horrid neither. Servers got backed up, ques developed and there were some crashes. You think of that and say 'Damn...that sounds bad to me.' But the difference here is Blizzard communicated with the customer. They discussed the issue and you could actually see they were working their tail off to fix it. When some gametime was lost they were quick to recompensate as well. Funcom is not highly communicative. In fact, they are about as talkative as that guy who slept with the 300lb chick no other wanted to touch. They ain't saying s***. They create a line between them and the customer. It gives a real us versus them feeling for me personally. Secondly, when a game launches everyone should expect issues. But what you want to see is the company do what it takes to correct those issues as quickly as possible. Sorry...but the game runs worse than it did upon launch. Memory leaks that were fixed two patches ago? Nope. Still there. Lat pings being addressed? Have no clue. They aren't saying much of anything. Checkboard graphic that was fixed a patch ago? Nope still there. PvP system they said was going to be in a month ago? Nope, not existent. So yes you really have to be paitient with MMO's but at some point (I usually say 60 days) a line has be to drawn for what you want from your game and the company behind it. I am playing still because I refuse to return to WoW and nothing else out there has much going on that interest me. So I'm waiting for WAR to release and have th preorder in. Most of my guild has disappeared so the people that held me to AoC are basically no longer there. It is always up to the individual what they want out of their game. If you enjoy or want to wait I say go for it. It has potential indeed. I just am not seeing the committment from Funcom to make me believe they will bring that potential forward right now. Hopefully I get proven wrong. And damn...longer then I wanted lol. |

See the OP has ran off and hid somewhere. I played until 80 in one of Europes top guilds. Also played wow since beta. Difference with WoW and AoC is this. Sure wow had problems at release. But Blizzard communicated with its player base and you could see the game getting better. It also had potential thats why a majority of players stuck with it. AoC has no potential (not with FC anyway) The pvp sucks and i can never see it getting fixed to the point it was advertised as. PvE has the most bland dungeons and boring boss encounters in any game I have played. Crafting is....(insert your own words here) We all know its dire and boring even the fanboys. Anyone who actually likes AoC has not reached end game content or licks windows for a living. The game is poor in all of its aspects. The only good thing about AoC is its becomming a warning to other Devs not to put unfinished, unfun, shallow crap games on the market. |

Jimmy, Let me give you a little background. I have been playing MMOs since 1997 (Ultima Online). I was a counselor on Siege Perilous, and a Companion on Great Lakes. I have participated in more betas than I care to count, and have been there for the Launch of EQ1, AC1, DAoC, SWG, AO, EQ2, WoW, VG, LotRO, AoC and several other P2P and F2P games. I have spent countless hours working on major gaming sites such as The Vault Networks, both as a volunteer and paid staff. I've written class guides, quest write ups, and spent massive amounts of time adding to quest, and item databases for various AoC fan sites. When Age of Conan was due to be released I built a top of the line PC, upgraded the "older" PC for the wife, purchased 2 CE's, 1 SE, and 3 Zboards w/ AoC keysets. I sent the SE and 1 Zboard / Keyset to a friend in England so that he could join us on the US servers. I hit AoC hardcore, with the usual idea that my max level toons would probably have to sit a bit while waiting for the end game to be fleshed out, but I didn't mind so much as I like Alts :). I started a successful guild, we built our tier 1 city (walls and all!), and began hitting some of the higher level instances. Then came the "patching". Funcom took what was once a pretty good game (Even with missing features) and destroyed it. Every patch they have issued since release has broken, busted and all around screwed everything up. To make matters worse Funcom ignored, banned or spewed the "Working as Intended" BS whenever someone posted a concern on their forums. Why do I "Waste my time posting negative drivel"? Because I saw the potential of AoC, I saw just how good the game could be .... then Funcom pulled the rug out from under my feet. I hope that by informing the gaming community of how bad things have gotten that it will force Funcom to take a critical look at what they are doing and hopefully get them back on track.

comparing launches of games 5 years apart should in no way excuse the depravity of aoc's launch. while both may have been bad (i was only there for one and that was aoc) aoc was built upon towers of lies and deceit. and if at best, it is as bad of a launch as a game 5 years ago by a company with no prior mmo experience there is something clearly wrong. the public outrage against this game no matter how hateful or jaded it can be is a very good thing for gamers. it sends the msg that this kind of BS is not tolerated and they will lose what they covet most, the money in our pockets. |

Sure, WoW had some problems, most of which were server related. However, besides the loot bug, the game was fully playable with fully working stats, crafting, instances, quests, spells and skills. You cannot even compare it to AoC's state at launch. The god damn stats didn't work! Do you understand what I'm saying here? The. Stats. Didn't. Work. How do you release a game after 5 years of development and not have working stats?

Some people are happy with just boobs and pee folks. AoC is probably the least immersive game I have seen, it's a claustrophobic world with no consistency. The end game is severely lacking, even if/when they get seige PvP working, it's still sad. Crafting is a pathetic joke. The problem is that it's the game design that's flawed. But to top it off, you've got moron devs who can't figure out how to patch working patches...let alone with anything good in them. The customer service is horrid. I could go on and on but the point is the game just plain sucks. "Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it. He just entered some flamebait and left.. Sure all the people leaving in droves from the game or filling the official forums with anger is not really the real players. Because everyone loves it and everything is dandy!! Right!
