It would be intresting to find out how many of these people who write bad things about AoC have actually played the game.

It would be even more intresting to see how many of these people actually played WoW when it was first released.

I think we have to remember that it takes time to build a great game and i think AoC has what it takes, i might be wrong, if Funcom don't fix issiues then sure i think it will go under, but saying that the combat system is bloody amazing. it's the best iv'e ever played on a mmorpg.

I think half the people who post bad things about AoC havn't even played the game, they got fuk all else todo in there lunch breaks than to write the same shit as they did the day before.

I might not still be playing AoC come christmas but i'm willing to give it a chance, the game is not anywhere near perfect but its got potenial.

Do you have any chars up to 80? Have you participated in a siege, or a Kylikki raid, or group PVP or... you know, played the game much?

I'm betting you haven't. Most of the defenders are casuals who just came to the game with hope in their heads, same as we did at launch. Much like the reviewers and some (though not all!) beta testers, they are fooled by tortage into thinking funcom aren't total newbs at making a MMO

From reading what the angry people write here about AOC, I can see many of them played the game a lot, same as I have - and the game is total unmitigated shite dressed up in pretty graphics

Not that it matters as it's also completely dead.

You sir have no idea what you are getting yourself into defending this PoS game.  I'm pretty sure you've just bought the game and only have a mid level char so you're somehwat enjoying the game.

I've played from EQ all the way to AoC and everything in between.. and never have i seen a company screw me in the ass as hard as Funcom.

I've got TWO 80's, one bear shaman... the other a PvE tank built guardian with lvl 80 crafted gear.  My guardian gets ONE SHOTTED on a regular bases, I swear ONE SHOTTED by other players in Kesh and he's tank built.  My bear shaman ONE SHOTS EVERYONE.  I have no idea how this is even PvP, to me it's just whoever gets the lucky first hit.  Sieges are buggy as shit and don't even work properly.

PvE wise, there's nothing to do but raid one bugged up dungeon in which the fights are purely Tank and spank fights.... and that's not mentioning the retarded healing system implemented.

My god! That is almost word by word a copy of the usual Vanguard defenders Posts. Word by word! "You have probably not played the game... takes time... potential..." Amazing.. takes me back a bit...

You would not happen to BE an old Vanguard player, would you?

To the OP your title says  " some of the comments on here about AOC make me laugh ".

well it would be nice for you to give us some examples of these.

Yet again another post with no substance just name calling and trolling .

forums are a place to discuss and exchange views,  yet you failed to provided any thing valid to discuss.

Obviously Jimmy hasnt gotten past Tortage yet or he would know the kind of crap AoC is. The game has no substance, not quality, no itemization, no DX10 (although it says so on the box), and the list goes on and on.

Add to that the patches that break more than they fix and the constant nerfing that has been happening over the last 6 weeks which has run off most of the player base.  How about the PR campaign from Funcom that constantly assumes they can do no wrong and Says AoC is the best game to ever be made?

If it was the best game to be out there they would have increasing sales, increasing player base and be adding more servers. Instead most servers are ghost towns even though all are set to say medium load 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

WoW had all the things at launch that AoC didnt and they had so many people tryiing to log in they couldnt handle the loads until they added another 30 servers in the first wave of additions. AoC cant even get lag off the servers with a minimal population.

Lay off the crack pipe Jimmy and wake up.

I admit I only had a level 20 char in AOC before I quit. But on the other side I try to not express my anger too much. As for WoW, played Beta, loved it. Played it after release and loved it. It was my first 3D mmorpg. After 2 years I quit because it got boring. But for these 2 years it was a hell lot of fun .

Blah blah blah  WoW had a bad launch too blah blah blah give Funcom time blah blah blah AoC has potential blah blah blah.

Talk about other games launches all you want, but it won't change what is happening to AoC. If  WoW was as bad at launch as AoC people would've stopped playing it, but they didn't.

If you think talking about other launches justifies what Funcom did, you're wrong.

Level 80 Tempest of Set
Level 78 Herald of Xolti
Level 57 Conqueror

Any other questions? I'd be fair to bet most of the people "trolling" the game here have actually played it up. I know I did because I expected Funcom to get their shit together... they didn't.

And the combat system is ok, but it's so fucking slow and clunky. The most agrivating thing in the world would be charging up a 4/5 button combo, getting to the last one and then getting knocked down.

edit: Just to be clear I think the game is a piece of shit.

^, also didnt we heard that somewhere? A good launch = successful launch?

BUT, I dont care what other people think, if you like the game, go ahead and pay Failcom $15/mo AND beta test for them. Just remember, when the day for cancel your sub has finally come, think back to all the "funny comments" here.

Oh and yes, I played almost all the mmo from EQ to AoC (the one that left out are mostly f2p ones) and I do have a ToS (many say ToS is overpower) in AoC.

Yeah.  I've played a bit.  This game blows.  Of my entire guild, about 60 of us came to this game.  All 60 have since quit and are now playing FPS games and a bunch of people actually went back to Vanguard.  This game needs help, but will most likely never get what it needs due to the dwindling finances.

To answer the OP's questions:

I played WoW from open beta through now.  (My account is still active, but I don't log in too much anymore.  I'm waiting for WotLK.)  I was one of the three founders of a guild that grew for the better part of two years, becoming the largest and oldest on our server with over 500 unique accounts.  About 2/3 of those accounts were active at least every other day.  Then some of us decided to try Horde and re-rolled on a new server with just a few of our guildmates.  Our new guild also grew for the better part of two years.  So that's four years of steady growth.

My friends and I played AoC during open beta.  We were underwhelmed.  But we heard quite a few good things from the early access group and decided to buy the game after all.  Once again, we founded a guild.  It grew to become one of the three largest on the server.  We were the first to put up a tier 3 city and battle keep.  Less than three months later, the guild is no longer growing.  Even though we're absorbing members from guilds that are falling apart due to loss of membership, our guild is still shrinking in terms of active accounts.  Only a handful of the founding members continue to play.

So yes, I have actually played both games.  One has visibly grown since Day 1.  The other had a flashy start and then an equally flashy decline.  Both had their fair share of issues.  But here's the contrast:

Blizzard had plenty of server down time and big queues for most servers.  But this was because the game outsold anyone's wildest expectations and then some.  Blizzard compensated by providing what eventually came to between one and two weeks of free time for its players.  Age of Conan has server technology that is five years newer than Blizzard's at launch.  They were also much more prepared for a huge launch because they could see the hype and had the benefit of being able to learn from Blizzard's experience.  It's no surprise that AoC had fewer server-side launch issues than WoW.  The game DID have issues, though, and this included several patch days that had to be extended by hours.  One even took 12 hours longer than scheduled.  Yet to this day, Ellingson claims that the game has had "no unscheduled down time."  So Blizzard was honest and fair.  Funcom is lying.

WoW had bugs from day one.  One of my favorites was the month or so that your character was naked on the selection screen.  There were plenty of others scattered around as well.  Higher level content did have more bugs than lower level content.  The overall polish was quite high, however.  Even in the mid and high level ranges.  AoC has far more bugs.  This is because entire systems were never even beta tested.  I can't stress that enough.  Crafting?  Not beta tested.  Tier 2 and 3 raiding?  Not beta tested.  Sieging?  Not beta tested.  Blizzard launched with all of their content having been beta tested.  Yes, some of it had bugs, but that's impossible to avoid.  AoC launched with a massive amount of content untested, and it shows.

WoW can be said to have had less end game content at launch than AoC.  Fewer raids, for sure.  No world PvP objectives.  Certainly no city building or massive PvP.  So on paper, AoC offered more at launch than WoW.  But let's be objective here.  WoW took a few months for more than a very tiny few players to reach maximum level.  By the time most guilds had enough players to participate in raids and the like, Blizzard had already added more end game content in.  Remember how I mentioned that our guild was ultimately the biggest on the server?  By the time we had enough raid-level players to start doing that, Molten Core had already been added into the game.  Before we had mastered MC, they'd added AQ20, AQ40 and ZG.  Also, getting to max level had a few patches of grinding, but they were brief.  As for Age of Conan, almost all the end game content had never been tested at all.  Almost all of it was broken.  So what good is it to have more end game content than WoW if players can't actually enjoy that content even three months after launch?  Much of it still is broken, with some of it effectively unplayable.  Adding to the debacle is the fact that AoC requires much less time to reach maximum level.  In fact, Funcom has specifically stated that they designed the game to get you to max level as quickly as possible.  In short, AoC makes it a snap to reach max level, then gives you nothing to do once you get there.  WoW made it tougher to get there (not by a huge amount, but by enough), and had engaging end-game content patched in before anything even close to a majority of players arrived.

Both games had their share of launch problems.  But by three months in, Blizzard had resolved pretty much every real issue.  AoC has far more critical issues, and shows no sign of having more than a fraction of them truly resolved by the three month mark.

And here's the real kicker:  WoW is Blizzard's freshman venture into the MMO market.  Funcom has already had an MMO out there, and so should have had the upper hand thanks to solid experience.

The writing is on the wall for AoC.  Blizzard had a luxury that Funcom does not have at this point:  time.  WoW had very, very little real competition for quite a long time after launch.  This gave them an even bigger opportunity to fix what needed fixing without players jumping ship for something else.  AoC is up against a wall with multiple major titles (including the newest WoW expansion) all set to be released over the next few months.  It doesn't matter whether you think those options are great or if you personally hate them.  The reality is that they WILL steal players away from AoC.  This will make it harder for AoC to ever be more than a niche game with a small core of loyal players.  Heck, even if they released a miracle patch tomorrow that fixed everything, the damage is already done.  They'd win back a few players, but most are over it.  AoC has already seen its best days, and it's barely out the gate.  WoW continues to grow to this day.

The AoC launch was better than that of SWG.  You couldn't even log onto the SWG servers for a day because they were down due to traffic and unstable clients.  The reason SWG was able to recover and maintain 250,000 subscriptions (in Pre-CU/CU) is because the game offered a great deal of innovation and fun.

The real problem with AoC is that it gets old, fast.  There isn't anything to do, WAY too much instancing is used. there a great deal of issues with sieges, etc, etc.  Pre-CU SWG was a bug-filled game, but the skill-system and sandbox world along with all the social interaction of musicians, dancers, campers, etc, kept players busy.  AoC doesn't have any of that.  It's a combat game and the combat gets boring.

You can only kill so many of X before it gets dull.  AoC doesn't offer enough to keep players long term.  It is quite fun for a month, and then it seems most didn't want to pay to play it further.

I have to admit i stuck up for this game like a true fanboy. i am now level 61 and although i dont think the games bad..i admit to being bored with it and it becoming a tad tedious. So ye wait 6 months untill there is a lot more to do then maybe ill try again.
