If you pretend to be something you are not to benefit yourself in any way then that shows a great insecurity, ineptitude, and imbalance in yourself. The sad part is you are taking advantage of people even more desperate than you are. I hope one day you will find out that doing things honestly and forthright is far more rewarding. You are kind of selling yourself out in a horribly deep way that will only manifest itself when you are 70 years old with Alzheimer's and are pretending to be a girl to get someone to change your diaper. |

LOL I must say I love this post !!!! I don't think it's unethical until you actually start having "relationships with people" I mean go ahead and act like a chick if you want, all it is is roleplaying but you kind of have to let the people know in your guilds or friends list eventually that you are a dude. I mean I play chick toons because I would rather stare at a womans ass all day then a mans but if people are stupid enough to let the way a character looks change their judgment then go ahead and use them. So pretty much all Im saying is if the dude is a tool and lets the way a character looks cloud his judgement then go ahead and take advantage but if it goes so far to were he thinks he's your boyfriend or he becomes a friend, show him some respect and tell the dude so he doesnt make himself look like a total n00b. ------------------------------ |

I think part of it was probably the games you played. With CoX, there's a much bigger element of roleplay. In most MMORPG's, you just roll the class you want to play and select whatever options you can from the shitty appearance customization menu. In CoX, you basically design a whole person. Their looks, their history, etc, from the ground up. For that reason, I think people care less if you roll a female toon, and they really have much less of an expectation that your gender matches that of your avatar. In Guild Wars, it plays even less of a role. Because you're continually rerolling PvP chars, people are a lot more likely to eventually make a few of the opposite gender just for variety, male and female included. Beyond that, neither game is about progression. Think about why men are drawn to "help" women. Is it because of some innate altruistic desire? Or is it because they desire to impress them with their accomplishments, thereby proving their fitness? When you look at both GW and CoX, those games are not heavily itemized, and neither is littered with status symbols. People there aren't out to prove something. They just want a fun game without a lot of the extra crap like item grind which is tacked on to most MMORPG's. That's part of why you just get treated like one of the guys. They just want to play with you, not prove how big of a man they are by leveling your chars and giving you leet epicz. But the game is only a small part of it. For the most part, I think what you encountered is simply the norm in almost all MMORPG's. Most people, guys or girls, have spent time around women in the real world. To them, there no novelty to hearing a girl's voice on the other end of voice chat. |

Eww Thats why i always tell the kidos not to use the game for a dating service. Well...i donno what else to say. Plz dont do that , its sick You should go to the local gym, find the biggest dude there, and ask him what he thinks about it.

Well the problem from a womans point of view...that is why us women gamers get treated like poison sometimes too. I have always refused gifts of items/money from ppl just because of ppl who do what OP has done. I in no way want to be associated with that kind of behavior. Like some have said..in a rp game is shouldnt matter but lets be honest. What if some starry eyed kid chats up a female player (more or less practicing for real life) and gets quite a crush. Now, I am not talking cybering..just long talks that this kid falls for romantically. You say its sad..I say finding out this person was really a guy that this kid poured his heart out to could permanently damage that kid. As a female gamer I have come across many kids just like that. They didn't cyber..but chatted daily about their lives etc and tended to become very attached even though I had said many times i was happily married. Instead of treating these kids like crap..I gave them advice that will hopefully help them in real life socially. Why ppl think its fun to damage another person is beyond me. Its sad that so many kids will use this avenue to practice their social skills but they do. Now ppl that tell right away they are guys will not damage those kids..its the ones that lead them on..all for pixel items. I have recently made a guy character just to see what the difference is in treatment. One, I much prefer to look at my guy char so understand guys making girl chars..second, my guy character actually gets taken a lot more seriously than my female chars. I can actually talk to ppl without fielding innuendos etc the whole time. Sure I make nice looking female chars..guess am vain enough I dont want dog ugly ones lol but my guy char is very hot looking too. I just wish that ppl would remember that their is another person behind that pixel chasing your pixel. A person that is possibly a shy kid needing some practice or lonely and wants to feel wanted or accepted by a female..or a lonely man that enjoys chatting ot a female instead of anohter guy. No matter how you look at it..thereis a HUMAN on the other side, up to you of course though.

LOL, your actions and deceit can only cause YOU to suffer, as well as the other parties involved, don’t fool yourself, you feel like shit inside. There is no way around it, its universal law that you 'get back' what you 'put out' into the world. How is this a good thing? For items lol, greed is about right at the bottom of the consciousness level for a human being, bordering on almost animal behavior. This is not to say that being at this level is bad, we are all at different levels. The thing about greed is tho, it will make you feel like sh*t and is miles away from anything even resembling happiness. Maybe you like to suffer and feel like sh*t, instead of being happy tho. GL |

I have played MMO's for years and there is one rule I live by, everyone is a guy unless I know them in real life, this way everyone gets the same treatment from me. Besides, I think its kinda wierd to log on looking for relationship, friendships yes, relationship NO. Get off the game, go outside for some fresh air or go take a cold shower if you start having sick thoughts because you think someone likes you on a game and you start having feelings for them. Here is a scene that happened to me 2 months ago on W.o.W. I will be player "A" Player B whispers: wow all the cute guys on here are hunters... Player A whispers: umm.. no im a lvl 63 druid on another server I'm just waiting for server to come back up and I made this guy cause I like the dreanie too. Player B whispers: oh ok, want to group? Player A whispers: Sure Now after we group this is what happened. Player B: Do you think I'm pretty? Player A: ...huh? Player B: Do you think I'm pretty? Player A: Well I don't know if your pretty or not, I have never seen you. Player A: All I see is a toon in a computer screen Player A: did you mean if I think your toon looks cool? Player B: yea Player A: Yeah I do, I think your toon looks pretty cool too, and I like the style you picked when making it. Player B: Well, it was nice meeting you, I have another toon on this server and some friends just came on, maybe we will meet again but i g2g. System message: Your group has disbanded See people, just stop them, don't feed into it, it makes no sense at all. I'm out, that was just me 2cents.  |

This is nothing special. lol see if you can re-read what I said then in a mature fashon post a response, I never said there were no girls on the internet fool, I said my rule is I treat everyone the same whether female character or male character to be more specific. this way when they come with BS like I showed in the "Scene" it gets shut out fast because I'm not there to tell you that your pretty, im there to enjoy the game. Is'nt it interesting how you can tell the maturity level of a person by how they interpret thinigs they read and the response they give in return. And FYI, I have been playing MMO's for 8 years now, not that thats very long or that I'm bragging or that its even important but simply because you asked. Peace. |

I think you're generalising there, not everyone who has a disability or illness broadcasts it in an MMO, or on the net, in the hopes they'll get free stuff. People with a genuine disability tend to keep quiet about it unless they've got to know you fairly well first, as the majority don't want to be treated any differently to anyone else. There are people out there that do con people into thinking that they're actually disabled/ill when they're not.. But from my own experience, most disabled people won't run around playing on the fact they have a disability just to get sympathy, stuff or whatever. |

Yes, it's unethical. It's also pathetic. But I am not at all surprised that someone would choose deceit instead of actually working for the items they want in game. i think you are more interested in the con game than the MMO. Playng a female toon and RP'ing it as a female toon is one thing. Having it cross over into a fictitional RL is quite another. I might also add that this has side effects. It causes many gamers to mistrust or have false expectations from real female gamers. I also get sick and tired of players accusing me of being a guy in RL. I have found, though, that the guys who do RP a female are usually horribly bad at it. They usually are so over-the-top stereotypically female that it's painfully obvious. |

No, you judge people who are RP'ing girls in games when they're not hurting anyone. You ARE judging people. It happens in MMO all the time. It's called roleplaying. You have no right to call anyone 'pathetic' because you just don't agree with their choices. Unless you are perfect Miss Harpy_Lady, which I highly doubt because you have time to tell people that the way they play games isn't the way you play games and therefore it's 'pathetic'. Guys roleplay girls on the internet and in MMO because they can experience the same benefits some girls receive in RL, this only puts this matter in the spotlight, get used to it or gtf off the internet and go live in the tower on the hill. |
