Alright so I played EQ2 a REALLY long time ago, way before RoK, slightly after EoF, was in a few raid guilds, trumped KoS content, STARTED to get into EoF content, got kicked from my raid guild due to missing like 3~ raid due to RL and storms knocking out electricity, then ragequitted, and never looked back

anyways, how is EQ2 doing with community and population? just wondering if it actually has a bunch of players still or if it's dying very slowly

also how is RoK? Pimp? boring? same ol same ol?

RoK had improved EQ2 for 1-20 content, population is OK on populated servers, and If you enjoy this style of MMO  and decide to stay after your free time then you can have a future here. People help you in and out of guilds, however you can tell that they help you with caution as the vet's know most don't stay, and I must say I don't blame them. BUT it seems once they see that you are serious they would teach you a lot about this game.

Please don't take this as bashing EQ2, but it is an evening game as servers don't get populated until later, so it's better if you live on the US West Coast.

For me, EQ2 is not my style and I was one that had left after two free months, but that's just me. My reason's just cause arguments. but this game CAN be for you, and all above is true no matter what anyone tells you !

ive tried to come back to game during that two free months, and for me, game is dead and empty. Just hardcore raiding bots left there.

At my comp, EQ2 is uninstalled, and my 1000+ days old char is frozen, forever...

Really?!  You should come to Kithicor, the server is booming.  I never have a hard time getting a group.  Raiding bots?  what are you talking about?  There's no such thing.

Anyway, OP if you join the game and you need help just shoot a tell to me on kithicor.toxxik I'll be more than happy to answer any questions that you have.

What server? This is certianly not the case on mistmoore. Mistmoore is alive, well, active, and I do not see hardcore raiding bots at all.

For me, RoK destroyed this game.  I really enjoyed the game up through KoS and some of EoF.  The population is seriously hurting.  It was booming with all those free accounts, but before the giveaway it was really deserted.

The massive number of "Keys available!" threads should answer the original question.  SOE is in desperation mode at the moment.  The game has been stagnating, as far as player population is concerned.  In the middle of a multi-month free play trial, along with all expansion, for every former player who wasn't banned (or had their ban lifted), there were still a few posts on the official forums asking for another server merge, due to low player populations on most of the servers.

Basically, EQ2 isn't doing great.  It isn't in any danger of shutting down, but it isn't really growing either.  The game isn't going anywhere, but it also isn't growing (slowly withering would be more apt).  If you do decide to give the game a try, roll your character on Antonia Bale, since it is the only server with a significant population.

its an incentive program for an older game - nothing more nothing less\\

It is a desperate measure to try and increase the playerbase.  Blizzard didn't decide to do a referal program until after one of their executives admitted that they lost players to Age of Conan.  Blizzard is much less desperate than SOE, since their game has well over a hundred times the subscribers that EQ2 does, but it is still a response to a dip in thier player numbers.

EQ2 isn't a very healthy game, player population wise.  Most of the servers are rather baren in most zones.  Aside from the Antonia Balye server, the rest of the servers would greatly benefit from another server merge.

Well, the PvP servers are pretty much dead when it comes to populations. Even being in a guild won't help you much, as many of even the larger ones have pretty much emptied out. A real shame, because the game is the best out there, still.

Haven't played on a PvE servers in years, but I hear most are just as bad.

AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)...

It's such a shame because most of SOE's games could have been rgeat and most of us know how to fix them but SOE just doesn't care anymore and working on their new projects.

Well I did come back and give it another shot when the free time was available to me. Pulled out my old toon and realized I had no clue how to play this game anymore so I put him on a shelf and rerolled on Mistmoore.

The community I found there was very helpful, friendly, and didn't rage bash when you asked some stupid nub q in the 1-9 channel. Was a little sparse on the population until I got to 20ish and moved out of Darklight woods, but after that I haven't had any problems finding stuff to do.

Basically after 3 years I was going to resub my account but then saw I got some more free time! After that i'm pretty sure I will resub and enjoy it for quite a while.

I would dismiss Obee's comments totally. First how do you know all the servers are barren? Do you play them all? Are you even a player? I been playing since release and played on a few servers. I now play only on mistmoore not Antonia Balye and there are players on all the time and at all hours. I never have any trouble getting in groups even on off times.  I never feel like I am playing a barren game never! SWG is a barren game not EQ2. The economy is alive and well Every morning I log on and every time all my items are sold over night in about 8 hours. That is not a sign of a barren game.

Many people come to the EQ2 forums and spout server numbers as if they even know what they are talking about. Granted EQ2 does not have the numbers of WoW but it sure feels healthy and alive if you play it. I am a SOE hater but I will defend EQ2. SOE has handle it well and is regularly patching, updating and adding live world events. We are currently in a world even where I have earned some great house items and armor. No other game I have played has more live and changing events then EQ2. The evidence does not support a barren game. The evidence actually points to a healthy game that will go on for years.

You can cover your ears and yell "I can't hear you!" all you want, but it wont do anything to help your game.  I logged in during the recent free trial, the one where they gave everyone who ever had an EQ2 account, including folks who only tried the trial, two months of free game time along with all the expansions.  During that time, the servers should have been overflowing with players.  They weren't.

Not sure what game you are talking about but EQ2 on the Mistmoore server is going fine. I am not covering my ears at all, don't need to. I play the game and have been since release and it is doing well. The history of my posts will speak to the fact I am not fanboi and try always to tell it like it is. Not how I want it to be. In my experience with EQ2 you are simply wrong. I have been involved in mmos for 10 years. I also follow the industry closely and have been for 10 years. I know a barren mmo. EQ2 simply is not it. I have no reason to be misleading. I just logged off to watch the Olympic opening games and there were ton's of players playing EQ2. Folks EQ2 is no WoW in numbers (does not take a genius to know that) but it is far from a barren game as Obee keeps claiming. EQ2 players know this to be true. There may not be enough players for Obee but 100s are logged in every day at all times on my server.

I've returned after 4 years to participate in the Living Legacy Promotion and have found the game to be very solid. The changes that were made has really improved the over all experience of Norrath. I've returned to join my guild and we seem to be growing, we have people that are leaving AoC and a few leaving War Beta (a few are bouncing between WoW). We are grouping at low and high levels so we have a nice distribution of players.

I've been very encouraged with the recent Game Update changes and I'm looking forward to GU48 along with the new expansion. After playing several beta's the last few years I have to say EQII is a great MMO that holds to the more traditional style of MMO play, not to mention the depth and substance that draws you into the game.

Two of my RL friends have now returned to play as well.

Well all of my friends have left AoC, and was hardly playing it anyway, so I thought I'd give EQ2 a whirl while waiting on Ryzom to restart.

And then I see this free time talk.. Was I supposed to get an email informing me that this event was on?? They didn't email either of my account's emails to let me know? haha.
Man that sucks, I would have totally been up for that.

Is the free time over now?

Edit:
Oh wait, it's just for unsubbed EverQuest (not II) players to migrate to EQ2 for free?

I like EQ2. Yes, RoK was a wow addon (only solo quests and raids), but overall EQ2 calls me back when I try to quit. (I play since release, but with big breaks)

Everyone not playing wow is a wow hater! :P
