The way I see it August is do or die month for this project. A new promised video that is supposed to show a full featured game is coming. So either they deliver on this promise soon or fold.

The majority of people on the official Darkfall boards are not as blind and stupid as one might think. Sure there's a few there that just belong in a cage somewhere to be experimented on but for the most part if they do not really DELIVER with this video there's going to be a huge backlash..

So will Darkfall be having a sexy party in August or will a cheap Nicaraguan hooker with crabs show up and spoil it all?

well, if they won't release this video in august  that would mean something is horrible wrong with the game itself or... with the team.

And now after 8 years of saying things will happen soon, they are still saying things will happen soon, and so far very few of them actually have, but yet they still have a community willing to wait.

If this routine has not changed in over 8 years I very much doubt it will in a month, simply all that will happen is the current members of the community who are no longer willing to wait will be replaced by new community members who are willing to wait.

This process has continued for 8 years and I see no reason why it wont simply continue indefinitely, multiple official / unofficial beta and release dates have come and gone as well as numerous other “promises” over the last 8 years.

And yet new community members, after 8 years of this, who replace those who are no longer willing to wait, are still willing wait for things to happen "soon" along with the allready existing community members who are still willing to wait.

All it requires is ignorance , naiveté and faith to perpetuate the cycle.

The only thing that can finally end this is for the things that have been perpetually about to happen soon for the last 8 years, like Beta, launch and new videos etc. to actually finally start happening "soon" i.e. in the next 5 months, or for Darkfall to be canceled.

Otherwise, 2008 along with all the things that were going to happen soon will come and go, along with the current members of the community who are no longer willing to wait, and a new community members and those still willing to wait will be getting excited all over again about the same things that might be happening sometime soon in 2009.

They seem pretty adamant that the game will release this year. This probably means that they are out of money, so they have to release it this year.

So its good news, since we will be able to play the game this year or early next year. But its bad news because the game will probably be only half finished when they release it.

yes, they are saying those rubbish for years now, shame on them. but the truth is that (except from eve!) for all those years no single good mmo was realesed. so we, dfo fans, are hoping that this game will be released someday. we just need sandbox, open pvp, full loot, skill based and innovative game like this.

and thats the sad truth...

While the trolls trolls and whine and assume and laugh at their own joke and post even more irrelevant posts, the developers get on with it. If there is no video there is no video, and the haters can have some fun at whose expense... I guess their own...

What a sad sad picture these forums paint. And how little value they really add not even official...

Maybe August of the year after next if you're really lucky.

Jonric: Where does development stand at the moment? What are the next major things to do? What are your plans for alpha and beta testing?

Ricki Sickenger: We are at pre-alpha stage, meaning we got the engine up to a pretty decent level, the server side is working, and we are slowly building the actual game, and adding features. The next big thing right now is to get the pre-alpha out to testers we will be picking from our community boards.

Jonric: Can you speculate yet as to a possible release date? And can you say anything about plans for a publisher at this point?

Henning Ludvigsen: At this stage we can only guess. And we are guessing Q1 2003.

Ricki Sickenger: Right now we are pretty happy with private investors, so we are not actively looking for a publisher at this point. We are listening to offers though, so if the right offer comes along, we might just go for it ;)

Yet again another “supporter” demonstrates they are ignorant or in denial of the facts regarding Darkfalls development history, which probably explains why they are a supporter in the first place.

well sadly you're mostly right, but you can't say the game is 13 years old. he just startet planning in 1995, but they're working on it since 2000, that 8 - and lets stick to it.

and that's also the reason why i dont blindly belive in their single word - they're saying the same things for 8 years, they even sound the same.

but that doesnt change my hopes for dfo in this year. if we will see a good, long gameplay video in august, that will show ai, key features that were barely shown so far and maybe even ui (but that's not necessary imo) i'll be ready to bet that beta will start in few monts.

The idea or concept for Darkfall is 13 years old, Claus the creator of Darkfall says so himself, but I clearly said that Darkfall has only been in development for 8 years not 13.

I don’t know of any other MMO that’s been planned since 1995 and been in development for over 8 years, exactly what effect this will have on the game we will hopefully finally find out by the end of the year.

Exactly, if you read that article objectively it is almost identical to many others over the last 7 years, and they are still repeating the same things today.

Again what exactly this means will be seen in the next 5 months, becuase finally they have officialy comited themselves to starting beta and launching this year, and releasing a comprehenisve gameplay video this month etc.

I still "hope" as well, despite how unjustified i think that hope is, and i still want to see this comprehensive gameplay video show everything they have promised is actually implemented in a feature complete game, and if it does then perhaps finally beta and launch might actually happen this year as they have said it will.

A nice little thing you trolls like to omit is the fact that Razorwax merged with Aventurine, changed countries, and started over again from just about scratch in 2003. After that the only promises they've broken is one clan beta (which was  never an official announcement) and beta by summer 2007 (which wasn't quite official, but still dissapointing.) This is the only time at all they've ever said anything dead on about releasing and a date. We'll see, I've learned not to get my hopes up, but really, fact check next time.
