Really so the videos of players being shot inside of their ship at the HELM even by Klingons in the recent play video is a lie? Or are you thinking about the PREVIOUS implementation of the game by a Crap company thats no longer exists. Last I heard no true details about the game other than videos has been released. |

Dude... I will believe when I see it. The bottom line is as long as Darren Stinnet is the Lead Dog in this pony show, it's gonna be borked. Just my opinion, but I really don't think "the vision" has changed that much since Cryptic took over. Again I hope they prove me wrong, but in the end... Shit in a shiney new box is still Shit. |

Ok with the lists people are putting up i just wanted to add my 2 cents. Player controled crews, ok thats not a big hit because you never can tell when or if your friends are on BUT how about this THEME PARKS people can group up and then enter a "THEME PARK" this lets them choose there role on a ship that is in a battle vs "INSERT RACE" Engineers can repair things in real time, medical personal can heal wonded caused by explosions tatical handles targeting, science officers for scanning ect ect ect. the only slot that CANT be controled in the theme park idea is captain. on another note " LARGE SHIPS " there is a game out now that many dont know about called STARQUEST, its like a spin off of star trek and even though the graphics are dated the game its self is HUGE and open ended, some of you might just like to try it out. Anyway the ships in that game can be small to out right HUGE and you can walk around inside them all decorate them how you like and what not. Also you can work on the engines, weapons, shields, power regulators ect ect to make them work at over 100% this takes a lot of time to get very small bonus and can actualy damage the parts then you woul dneed to repair them :P. I had my engines at 115% in that game and weapons and shields at 110%. Also you could explore planets, set up colonies, mine, craft ect ect. and the space was huge at warp 9 would take a week or more to reach the center ( o.o.o ) im just adding this to let people know that being a captian isnt the ONLY thing that is or can be fun if done right. Also as we all know there are some hard core guilds out there that would be able to man and run a player controled ship 24/7 this option should be open for said guilds. what we all want in this game has been done before and has actual been put into a single game but needs a large company with better designers to build on it. I just hope this isnt some hashed out POS that has a life span of 1 month wich you get free when buying the game. |

No, Cryptic threw him a floatation device. You know in some older, more civilized cultures, when someone failed a badley as Darren Stinnet, They would throw themselves on their swords...this is not the case as Mr. Stinnet remains at the helm of this somewhat questionable project. Like a Cat, Darren has many lives and will complete this venture to HIS specifications. A game that is NOT for Star Trek Fans. |

Bren Is there any way to confirm this? My interest in this game is 100% dependent on Darren Stinnet not having anything to do with it. |

Well here is a Gamespot interview with the new Executive Producer Craig Zinkievich. He is the project head for STO at Cryptic and all design decisions are made by him. This is his baby now not Darron Stinnett's. The direction of this game is totally different then PE's. With 2 factions at launch and player ship interiors it seems that Cryptic was paying close attention to the fans during PE's development. Also Jack Emmert has already stated in the webcast from Vegas that this game is not level based. As we all know PE was working on a Class/Level based quest grinder, basically WoW with Star Trek skins. Cryptic is going in a completely different direction with this development than PE did and if some of the people posting in this thread(not you) would go and actually read something about this new incarnation of STO they might know that already.

Secondly, you and others really fail to internalize this concept: Game and simulator are not opposite ends of a spectrum. Some of you continue to bandy about this false dichotomy between game and simulator. It just doesn't exist. It doesn't have to exist. |

"I'm just saying that some of your expectations are unrealistic and that you will be dissapointed if you keep these expectations."
And it was pointed out to you features that he asked for had been in mmo's for four plus years and you went on into another post that made even less sense that said something to the effect of these classes were new. Most of the listed classes were Med Officer,Security etc. how hard would it be to impliment a tool where by these professions were utilized in game if you actually think it's that hard you my friend are a pretty big reason mmo companies shovel crap to us now.
"It has nothing to do with how much I'm interested in those features, I like to see developers try new things, I wish they did it more often" The funny thing is you just changed your position to say they either shouldn't or wouldn't do these things because they are new and might not work what is your point? |

Having Passion for something is one thing, but the game he is making is "not for star trek fans" lol. Why would you even attempt to build a game around an IP you are not even a fan of. Very Sad...as I said before, unless they really change the "vision" of this project, I will not invest my time and money. |

Originally posted by Dilweed lol, never gonna happen ok, so before you gonna say "why?" here is why: there are many new things in your list, which have never been tested before in any other game. If one part of a mmo is badly designed, the other parts suffer. Now, with so many new stuff, chances are hugh one thing or the other will not work like intendend and will drag down the rest of the game. It all comes down to risk vs reward, and the risks with your list are enormous, you can do some new features but you cannot spend milions of dollars on a almost complete new genre that has never been tested and just hope it all works out, it is a no go. We can live in a fantasy world, devs can't (or shouldn't Let's go over this again since your understanding is so limited (as we can expect much more from someone who calls themselves Dillweed) " lol, never gonna happen ok, so before you gonna say "why?" here is why: there are many new things in your list, which have never been tested before in any other game. This is as stupid a statement as any of the other highly intellectual posts you've made (huh???!!) How does if one part of an mmo being designed badly affect another you don't point that out but I assume if we wee all geniuses as you obviously think you are we would already see so no need for you to explain where you got this idiotic theory from. "Now, with so many new stuff, chances are hugh one thing or the other will not work like intendend and will drag down the rest of the game." Ok here goes another one of those over the head genius statements you make nothing in his list is new but you wouldn't know this since you've been at NASA building rocket ships or something for the last five years. " It all comes down to risk vs reward, and the risks with your list are enormous, you can do some new features but you cannot spend milions of dollars on a almost complete new genre that has never been tested and just hope it all works out, it is a no go. We can live in a fantasy world, devs can't (or shouldn't Ok again you have already had your you know what handed to you about how long the technologies for these features have existed where are the new features Dill? What about the new classes mentioned which can easily equate to known models of tank, dps, healing etc? Why don't you for once in these foolish posts of yours enlight us instead of changing your point and hoping no one notices. And this is all from your original post bro I didn't make this up my point since you are too intelligent to see it is that your original statement was entirely based off of wrong information the fact that most of what he mentioned had never been done before so now that we have in fact taught you what mmos can actually do why don't you spout out of both sides of your face again. |
