"And I Aint Ever Ran From A Ninja And I Damn Sho Aint Bout To Pick Today To Start Runnin" |
I hear the console and pc gamers say it's good. I'm actually playing Invisible War one, because I couldn't find the original used that came with a manual. This game is pretty tight. Has that feel of System Shock II + Duke Nukem or something. EDIT Could someone please tell me why inventory is so small in this game? |

The inventory system was something that a lot of people complained about for IW. I can live with it, honestly. It was a bit clunky, but oh well. The only thing that pissed me off was the bug they left in the game in which multitools don't stack properly. That bug was added by the last patch, and I think they never got around to releasing another one after that. Support was just discontinued. On a more general note, I was a big fan of Deus Ex. Invisible War is crap, though, in my opinion. I really wanted to like it. I really did, but I couldn't. Compared to DX, the levels in IW are cramped, the story and atmosphere are mediocre, and in every way aside from graphics and maybe AI, the game felt like a downgrade. The only feature improved on in IW was the weapon mods. A lot of people bitch about that, but they're stupid. The original DX allowed you to put tons of mods on weapons, but aside from the scope and laser sight, they all just applied minor numeric buffs that stacked up to a point. Like you might have a pistol with five range mods, five ammo mods, five recoil mods, etc. The mods in IW actually gave weapons interesting new functions. What's cooler? A pistol which, when fired at glass, simply dissolves it without attracting attention? Or a pistol with 50% more range, 50% more magazine capacity, and less reload time? Still, playing IW before DX might ruin the first one for you. DX started out as a technical mess, but they fixed most of that. Still, even after all the patching was said and done, it has some minor stability issues. It also rarely corrupts saves (particularly if it chooses to crash while saving), so you have to make backup saves every so often. It happens very rarely, but I thought I'd warn you, so it doesn't ruin your experience. A lot of games running on the original Unreal engine back then had those problems, so you learned to live with them if you loaded up DX or Undying or something. If you can live with that, the old graphics, and the sometimes questionable AI (still arguably better than IW), it's a great game. On the plus side, being older has some very limited advantages graphically. It means your comp can easily run the game at a super high resolution (the limiting factor will probably be the UI, which doesn't scale), plus you can force the maximum levels of anti-aliasing and anistropic filtering that your video card supports. That should sharpen things up a great deal. If you like IW, I think you'll love the original. $10 on Steam or D2D. You don't really need a manual as, though the game is fairly complex, it's also fairly straightforward. |

The first Deus Ex is available on Steam. Or you can play it for free on Gametap. You'll need a Gametap ID since it's a mature rated game and all that jazz, but it's still completely free. This was the only Deus Ex game IMHO. |

original deus ex was fantastic. so damn immersive. i recently installed it again. i played about 30 minutes of IW. it felt clunky and the gravity was off somehow. i have some hitpoints from fileplanet and they're offering it...i think ill use the points and play it soon. |

Thanks for the comments everyone. I did wanted to get the first one, but I found a copy without a manual and case and I felt that this is the type of game you might can't live without a manual. I brought IW on Xbox. So the original is free on GameTap? Do you play it from a browser or does it runs as a normal PC game? I'm really interested in playing the original. I might try to finish IW. I mean I brought, KotoR II and beat it before playing the first one. I honestly felt that the first one was smoother, but I haven't finished it yet (haven't even gotten my lightsaber). |

You gotta download that Gametap client and make a Gametap ID, all totally free. Then you start Gametap, log in and find the game in the free games ring under shooters. There are only two free first person shooters on the list, Deus Ex and Diakatana (don't ask, you don't want to know...). After that you download the game through the Gametap client (took me about 30 minutes) and then just hit the "start play" button and you're in. It's actually a lot easier than it sounds on paper. |
