I am looking to try out another Free-to-Play MMO, however I have become very disenchanted with the cash shop system a great many of these games use.  Thus, I am looking for one of those rare F2P MMOs that does not use a cash shop.  Particularly, I'm wondering if this sort of game even exists.

Playing: Nothing At The Moment
Played: CoX, WoW, lots of free-to-play crap
Looking Forward To: Champions Online, Blade and Soul, Star Trek Online, Football Superstars.

shadowbane you can buy a sub but it is not mandatory you get access to all the classes and races even without a sub.

Professional game tester, the flip side of P2P.

To each his own.

Guild wars, RF online, Requiem: Blood Mary. But these 3 you have to buy.

Runescape is always another option :P

all of those have cash shop/subscription models, except guildwars. you need to buy guildwars anyway.

He didnt say "Oh and plz dont post games that can be p2p plz". RF online is COMPLETELY free no cash shop, and I Belive Requiem is too, but I'd have to check, and runescape is completely free if you want it to, just restricted.

Honestly, games are generally P2P, F2P w/ shop, or B2P (Buy to Play). Thats how games are monetized. Currently, there are no large scale MMOs that do not have an item shop that are F2P. How do you expect a company to monetize their product? If there is one I would be really afraid of the Customer Support and Tech Support teams. What you're looking for is ad-supported games. Those have yet to flourish in the MMO space. So until then, you have to put up with F2P games with an item shop, pay a monthly fee with no item shop, or buy the game once and play with no item shop. The choice is yours.

RF online does have a cash shop.It is called the Novus Market.

Requiem is built upon a subscription model where paying players get more exp and more drops, and have access to better items and such.

runescape is free, but unless you pay the subscription fee, you will be at a severe disadvantage. non subscribers only get items up to level 70 or something

Guild Wars does have a cash shop in some form, special edition upgrades, skill packs et al for PVP and such. Though the advantage given in PvE is limited and since you don't really need every advantage possible in order to get through PvE I wouldn't really worry too much about it.

true, i forgot about that. its not so much as a cash shop as it is a store, where you can buy expansions and extra character slots and such. Skill sets could be considered an advantage over other players though.

Yeah but last I checked the skill sets were for PVP only, it's just an attempt to cash in on people who are too lazy to play through PvE, since once you gain a skill in PvE you get it in PvP. Ironically and rather amusingly you still have to unlock the skills in PvE after buying the PvP packs, so they make a mint and the player presumes to have skipped any "work"
