July 3rd, 2008 Look what LA filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office! screenshot provided. Pay particular attention to the Goods and Services section, which is setup nearly identical to the patent for there only other existing online mmorpg, Star Wars Galaxies. Could it be the Bioware/LA lovechild we have been awaiting? Opinions?

Interesting. I guess it cannot be another Battlefront since there clearly reads Old Republic and it can't be KotOR3 since its suppose to be online game? |

Bioware's MMO is a fantasy game with dragons, nothing to do with Star Wars whatsoever. Maybe someday there will be a Kotor, but it will be quite a while if you are waiting for Bioware to do it. |

Christ, if people who have been folowing Bioware's development and can't see the mmo is going to be Mass Effect Online, then your blind and will see nothing even after it's announced.

Because the speculation monster is fed by last words. Whomever gets the last word is the one he gives his full power too. Like Highlander...but without the loss of ones head. I would like to add to this, though, that there is virtually no other IP that a company would be joining with LA to work on. Lucas has his head so far up Darth Vaders rear end that he can probably smell dead jedi remains by now.

Man, I wish he'd open up THX 1138 for development as an mmorpg. I can see alot of potential, and it's unkown enough to garner the interest of sci-fi fans in general instead of just movie fans. |

Ok if you look a bit closer to that patent then you can see its fake. The title is for some reason a different font and "The old republic" in the Word mark seems to be also added. |

Why the hell would the font have to be exactly the same in the document? Many legal papers are formatted that way. Also, that is how the patent is pictured on the official site, so unless it's some kinda joke, it isn't fake. |

Its obvious what Bioware and LA are working on. The Ultimate wow killer! "Clone Wars Online" LA want a carbon copy of WoW. If cartoony graphics and simplistic child like controls can appeal to the masses then this is what they will create. The new movie with its Cartoony graphics will appeal to children and adults alike. I believe they will make an mmorpg based on the movie. Nobody can then complain on how many jedi are running about. LA has been dumbing down the IP for years. Just watch Ep1 Ep2 Ep3. All thrown together with simplistic scripts. LA wants new blood to enjoy Star Wars. He cares not for the originial old fats anymore. Clone Wars Online. You heard it here first! It will be released on PC and PS3, it started out that the game would be PC exlclusive but was later unveiled as a PS3 title so it will end up being primarily developed for PS3 and then ported to PC. It isn't anything like an MMO, BioWare's MMO will either be StarWars or MassEffect in my opinion. |

Because my word is at least supported by SOME evidence, clues, or other rumors from more likely sources. It may or may not be KOTOR, either way I don't really care. I'll play it probably no matter what it is because I have yet to play a Bioware game I didn't enjoy. Tecmo Bowl. |

While I am excited for a new Star Wars MMO that isn't the butchered Star Wars Galaxies, I'm not expecting anything more then World of Star Wars.
Don't expect to see a sandbox style star wars mmo from Bioware like what SWG was originally. After reading the Q and A with the developers about their new MMO, they made it pretty clear they want the MMO story based, and all 3 devs they spoke to said they were currently playing WoW. The dragon age game by Bioware is NOT an MMO. That game is their next BD/NWN grand RPG game.
Bioware has 1 more team working on a game. This is the team down in Austin working on their MMO. Since the MMO is OBVIOUSLY not the dragon age game, the MMO will be based on a Lucas Arts IP. Now, it could still be something like Indiana Jones, but it is highly unlikely. Seriously people, it's been dead obvious that they are making a new Star Wars MMO for a while now. They know they have a gold mine and they want a good MMO, not some SOE garbage.
Ok, so to break it down: 1.) Bioware has 2 teams. 2.) One team is making Dragon Age, NOT an MMO. 3.) Bioware and Lucas Arts are working together. 4.) MOST likely, the LA IP they are using is Star Wars. 5.) The Old Republic sounds a lot like former Bioware games in the Star Wars IP, which would make sense.
Only 4 and 5 are speculative. |

Many companies trademark anything and everything they can think of to keep other companies from using any incarnation of a IP. Just standard business practice.

This is the only good bit of information to ever come out of the KOTOR MMO rumor mill. I'm still not convinced. This could be a SWG expansion, or yet another change to SWG, or just something else entirely. It's interesting that it says "international" when describing the online service, though. Maybe I'll revise my position from "not going to happen" to "we'll see". _____ |
