definitely no sandbox.

very linear, level/class based with rather meaningless crafting so it has nothing to do with a sandbox/open world game.

Nope it's not (thankfully) Else the game would have gotten even more complaints cause you do know that only poeple like us who are niche type of players are in most cases able to enjoy the sandbox aspect, this isn't something for the majority of players, pre-cu SWG and even EVE proof this already. Yes EVE is doing pretty good but it's still a niche type of game. And unfortunaly for us niche players AoC is a mainstream game but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the game cause i am sure if players do not believe in hype, not being a PVP player, not looking forward to SIEGE's the game is fun to me, not the best, but it is fun which is still my nr.1 thing to play a game.

The game is very instanced, lots of loading screens especialy the first 20 lvl's, after that it all depends on your playstyle, for example if you prefure spending time in dungeons and such expect to run into some more loading screens (nothing like Tortage tho), but if you for example are indeed a niche player you might find joy in other things then questing or letting your hand be hold, for example this last week i havn't spend a minute on lvling or questing (still gained some xp due to the jalouze prospecters that keep attacking me while i try to harvest/gather/mine, making markers of found resource node's where ever i found a node, regardless if i could already use it i already marked it for use when i might reach the lvl to harvest it.

Also the game does offer a good way of replyability apart from the single player part (Night Time) as Tortage has plenty of quest that you don't have  to do all of them, but could pick more then enough to outlvl them and simply choose if you make a new character to let that new character pick up the quest you didn't take with your main. I know many will disagree due to their playstyle on this, but it can be done this way but afcourse how i play it doesn't have to be fun for everyone else.

Overall you can make AoC look bad but you could also make it look fun, all depence on what your expectations are for the game. But understand this aint a sandbox game.

AOC is the exact opposite of the definition and spirit of sandbox.  Everything that is sandbox AOC is not.

No It's a single player console game.
