Hi all,

Based on many of the recommendations I read in these forums, I decided, reluctantly I admit, to try vanguard again. I had played at release (well tried to play that is) and also came back about 4 months ago as I waited on Age of Conan. My experience 4 months ago was decent. I had to tweak the game to get it to play but it played okay. So I decided to try it again since the Age of Conan thing didn't work out so well and I can't even begin to say how glad I am I did.

Vanguard isn't perfect. It still has issues like all games do but it is now a solid entry into the MMO market. Had it launched in the state I have experienced in the last 24 hours, then it would have a lot of subscribers. I started over from scratch so i experienced the game as a new player would. My experience was entirely different. The gameplay and style seems very much the same to me but performance is so much better. My main issue is the lack of players but I did see a fair amoung in the starter areas so its not too bad. And on top of that, my experience with the community has been great (at least on Xeth); they are very helpful and nice to new players.

Before, I was lucky to have the game on balanced and textures on low. I now can play (with solid framerates) on High with High textures (and this is with an old computer - AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4ghz, 4 gigs ram, 9600GT in Windows XP).

What I like about Vanguard, even if it isn't the best MMO, is that it is old school. It has a lot that reminds me of EQ and its very nostalgic; while at the same time, it isn't frustratin to play like I found EQ at times. It seems that they did, in fact, take the best of old school MMO's and the best of modern MMO's and combine it into a very nice experience.

If you are looking for an MMO, I would recommend trying it. Just remember it isn't designed to be WOW or LOTRO but more of a successor to EQ. It is definately worth a try in its current state. I think the history of Vanguard might be "what might have been" had Sigil released the game in the state it is in now.

Hey there,

I never played Vanguard before this last week. but I heard a lot about it though. I actually gave the game a try. I really was not expecting very much I must say after reading a years worth of negative posts and feed back about. But, I really found the game a lot of fun, and I have no issues at all with running it.  It reminds me totally of EQ1 not EQ2.  I hear a lot of posts of folks wishing there was a game like EQ1, and it is Vanguard.

Anyway, I really hope they re launch this game and try to get more players into it. I think it can be a hell of a nich retro game for sure. It is very thing a real MMO should be; It just needs a lot more players playing it.
