I know that obviously many tank classes have options for dual-wielding/greatweapons. My concern is that in many games a tank can equip such weapons, but would be a fool to do so in a group. The tank I am interested in, the Knight of the Blazing Sun, would be much less interesting to me without a greatsword. So while I know I can equip one, and probably spec for one, I'm concerned about that option actually being viable for being in a group. |

You can use a sword/shield combo with the Knight of the Blazing Sun.

short answer is yes you can, in fact the Swordmaster is tank desgined to not use shields. Now a non shield tank will not be as resilient as a shielded tank, but you still have abilities to do your tanking job without it. |

Sure. You can tank without a shield. Will you want to? No. Will I kick you from my group. Yep. |

we don't know enough about the heavy tanks to know if they require shields to be effective in their role. They are many nideos with chosen using 2h axes. chosen the destruction mirror of the knight. In PvE I would say use a shield, in PvP go for the greatsword. |

Behold! Rash of the Itch King comes in November! Quake in fear! |
Bah when Paul explained the class he made it sound as if they always wielded a 2-handed greatsword with heavy armor, implying that they could tank effectively with one. |

Depends on the class. Swordmasters use Greatswords and Black guards use Halberts. These are 2H weapons. Black Orcs, Chosens, KotBS and Ironbreakers use shields. And about pairings: Swordmasters=Black Orcs (combo moves), Black Guards=Ironbreakers (Anger management |

it was told in a podcast, that no matter what spec you chose as a tank, you will allways be able to do your job! so if you chose 2h and spec for it, you can still be a great tank by equipping some other gear and shield ! :D |
