Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defense.

That's awesome! :)

Yeah IDV is going to be a pretty rich company before long.  Almost all of the new MMOs and even most that are already running have use the Speedtree software.  Now all we need someone to do is make a graphics engine designed specifically for MMOs.

Speedtree technology has been around and growing for a while. It made a rather large splash in the gaming market in Oblivion a few years ago, and has been gaining ground since with a few competetors.

It's very nice to see it in WAR's engine, as it really does provide realistic foliage, not to mention the ability for dynamic changes.

The original engine that Oblivion used was somewhat limited in view distance however, for various reasons. But with a MMOG which doesn't need quite the range a FPS/RPG does, it should do quite nicely.

AoC is a prime example of Speedtree usage, for foliage creation....

Cool. So AoC have nice looking trees. Just a shame the rest is pure crap.

While EA Mythic may be using this, I'd just like to point out the Jan 2004 date on this article.  Which, to me, means they are refering to the OLD Warhammer Online done by that other developer before, then, Mythic took over and scrapped their project.

Still cool stuff, tho.

Mythic has this facination for trees damnit.  In DAoC it was the one thing they loved to focus on when advertising new graphics.  It was so bad at one point that people were getting pissed off with mythic always upgrading how the damn trees looked instead of balancing their damn game.
