Gamers who use RMT are like athletes who use steroids

Any old schoolers like me or new players tired of the linear quest driven games being released that want a combat experience oriented MMOG with a complex crafting system?

Did they fix the game from sucking yet or have they still failed to hire someone to compose music for them?

I've heard so many positive things about it, particularily from ex-SWG folk, that I'd give it a shot. It sounds like it has the elements I'm looking for in an MMO.

The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on.

if they brought back the segregated starting zones...

I never liked the new one they had... felt lacking, like you couldn't stay there because you were capped, but they gave you things to do there like it wasn't... a very confused designer made that.

overall one of my favorite MMOs to date.

I would play - the reason I quit before was there was no skill cap for an individual. It was the one thing I didn't like - people could max out every skill in the game.

Why did I care? Because I joined late and joined a great guild, but felt completely useless.  Sure I could grind up skill X, but everyone else had it at 250 already. So they would let me heal if I wanted to, but it was just to gain skill - no one really needed me to heal. Or to shoot. Or to craft. Etc. My only motivation when playing an MMO is to be useful and work well with my team, and if each member of the team is entirely self-sufficient I pretty much lose all motivation.

Now I doubt they'd have a max number of skills in the new version, but everyone would start out at 0, so while we were working our way up, my individual skills could actually be useful to the group. :)

I played in beta and I really didn't find it all that spectacular.  However, given that it had a slight feeling of old SWG, I'd be there.

Depends, if there is enough hype from fanboys, false advertising and viral marketing I may just be suckered into another failed MMORPG

In a heartbeat!  Ryzom was the game for me, and it sucks that it's gone.

I only enjoyed it for the last month, but was adopted by a nice guild full of people willing to teach and share the love they had for Atys. My only regret is not playing it way before.

I'm in for sure.

And to anyone who hasn't tried it.. it has some very unique harvesting systems and so forth. If you liked UO or pre-NGE SWG, I won't promise this is your new game, but it does have some very intricate and complex systems. It's one of only 3 games I've ever enjoyed harvesting in (and to be honest, I may have only liked harvesting in UO because it was my first taste of it in an MMO )

It's been awhile since I played, but a brief description of the system for those who have never been in Ryzom:

You create your skills by piecing together different components. So, for harvesting, you might piece together abilities to find crystal, search in a 15 degree arc, search 20 feet in front of you, and to raise X number of nodes at a time. If you run this harvesting skill in an area that has crystal within a 15 degree arc up to 20 feet in front of you, you'll make X nodes of the crystal appear to harvest.  Another set of skills are used at a longer range to help you find concentrations of harvest materials, so you have some idea where to begin looking (similar to SWG's scanner).

You then use a separately created skill to harvest each node, with components of the skill such as speed of harvest, quality of harvest, etc. The nodes disappear after a certain amount of time, so you want to balance speed with quality and damage to the node.

Also, group harvesting is encouraged because you can use other abilities to improve the lifespan of a node, increasing the quality and quantity of items you get from it. This is especially important when finding rare nodes. The more people you have on a node the better for everyone.

If the health of the node gets too low, it will begin emitting toxic fumes. So as you harvest, you must carefully nurture the node or, if your skills fail, be prepared to quickly move away.

Also, all harvestables are found in regular areas with creatures both aggro and peaceful. So it's easy to work on harvesting and combat at the same time to keep from getting bored with one or the other.

That's just a brief example of the Ryzom system. I admit, I really enjoyed it, and would not have left if most of the people I played with in game hadn't been maxed to 250 on almost all their skills. I was very sorry when I heard it went under because some of the nicest people I've met in an MMO were playing Ryzom. And by "nice" I don't mean they attempted to give me tons of free stuff (although some did), but also well-spoken, entertaining, and interested in more than just the grinding-for-skills-and-gear. The community was very good.

In a second, without hesitation.

Ryzom was a game I continued to pay into even after I had pretty much checked out from a attentive playing point of view. I wanted to encourage innovation and for all it's faults Ryzom was a wonderful gem of a game.

Can't wait for it to come back and I hope it's given a fair shot at success with a decent update and some key features.

I'd give it another try.  I tried it ~2yrs ago and hated it, but i only gave it a small chance (only played for an hr or so)

I am definatly going to play it when they get it back up and running again. I loved the game when I tried it ,but was to busy raiding with my guild to give it full time. This time I am going full time Ryzom and cannot wait to see Atys again:P

Ditto, I always wanted to try it...but was busy testing so many other games that I didn't have time.  When I FINALLY chugged through those, and opened up my time again....it died....

I could have logged on for its last week...but I couldn't bear to chance falling in love with it and then watching it go.....

I played beta and into launch and I loved it.  I would definitely play it again as I need a break from the quest based theme park worlds.

Is there rumor of it returning or something?  That would be very very nice.  Wish it was tomorrow.

Edit* Holy crap that's awesome!!  I hope it comes back soon.

I loved it, I just missed launch because of school and fell really... really far behind which was very frustrating.

after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
