Sony Online Entertainment is the devil.

Does anyone think that SOE is secretly in charge of swgemu. i don't understand how the emu has not been shut down because its clearly copyright infringement. when you log onto swgemu and you see a SOE logo.   i'm sure both lucas arts and soe are aware of the emu, yet it's still up and running.

Even a broken watch is right twice a day.

Its is odd that they just let it slide , maybe its just another of example of the fact that SOE dont give damn about SWG.

I believe the Smed called it "fan art" and thus allow it to exist. I mean, how could anyone want to play THAT when they can play the current game with its shinys and fantastic new content and iconic professions, and a game that is so technically tight?

If  Smed calls that "Fan art" then what type of art is the NGE ? I say potty art after 4 bowls of Colon Blow Cereal.

Did they finish it finally?  I was thinking soon as they finished it then SOE would shut it down.

there are a few issues with this... technically if they aren't receiving any money for it then technically they arent doing anything illegal... also i suppose they'd have to take into account that if they did go and throw a fit about it that technically the player-base who were lied to about the product they were selling and then ripped off could be sued. i guess...

fuck me... i study law and there are so many contradictions to whats all going on here that i dont even understand it all.

To say "there are a few issues with this" is an understatement.

LA could swoop down on this like  a pack of hyenas in about a nanosecond and there's not much that could be done, unless the EMU folk have written permissioni to pursue this as a not for profit venture.  Which might be construed as "you can't even be paid to operate the servers, or ask for money to recover costs like rent for the server farm and the T3  or OC3 or whatever is hooked up to the net."

Not to mention any development work, you know, like fixing bugs (or fixing broken quests) or adding content or resolving balance issues or actually implementing the CURB that might have addressed many gameplay issues without the massive dumbing down of the game that the CU and later the NGE represented.

I'm not a lawyer and don't even pretend to play one on the Intertubes, but this whole thing is fraught with all sorts of issues.  One  of which is that if Lucas doesn't exercise IP rights, he stands to lose them, and I can't imagine him doing that even if there wasn't a dime involved.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
