This was posted on a blog who does some podcasting. It is a good conversational topic. And these podcasters talk to smedley. It happened 3 years ago, and for some people it seems like it’s just something they can’t let go of. It’s funny…most seem to forget RL events in the span of months but change their game, and dear gawd…watch out. Question: Does anyone else think we just need to move on? Seriously. Wow…I just realized something. If people aren’t letting go the NGE, an update to a game…I’m thinking we’ll still be talking about Vanguard for the next 20 years. Of course, that was all SOE’s fault too. Along with WWII, The Great Depression and Anime. Oh yes…I’m coming after YOU, Mr. Smed, for that anime stuff. Interesting article…it really is, but I’m getting a bit bored of NGE rants. No….longer…relevant. D out. |

Few men are born brave. Many become so through training and force of discipline. |
I too am bored with the NGE rants, it 's at the downward slope of it's product lifecycle, all things come to an end, it's just a shame this one was premature. |

I could not be in more full agreemnt. Its only the fact that SOE when out of their way to make an example of me for a very petty Roleplaying exchange of their forums that I quest ot the very end of their abomination. |

The longer it goes on for the better because SOE and Lucas Arts will never get away with at and always be stained for it. |

"I am altering the deal, pray I don''t alter it any further." (summary of SWG) |
Originally posted by Lateris Saying the NGE was just a game update is pretty much a textbook example of rationalization, minimization and denial. It ignores the misleading marketting that promised consumers an entirely different product. It ignores the fact that core game systems (combat, movement and chat) were utterly broken. The combat didn't execute, heals healed enemies, and if you had multiple chat channels open you couldn't move (at all) or chat (at all). We sent emails to one another trying to discover a work around. It ignores the fact the entirety of ingame progress that people had made over the course of 2 years was deleted overnight. People ranting about just a game update--what a ridiculous and deceitful statement--par for the course. And no, SOE isn't responsible for WWII (idiotic comparison), but yes SOE is certainly responsible for all the above. Attempts to water it down just demonstrate a lack of remorse, and frankly the arrogance we've all experienced too often. P.S. I'll "let go" of it when SOE and LA officially apologize for the actions I've listed above, when they decide to "let go" of all subscription revenue that was gained as a direct result of any intentionally misleading marketting, and when they change the way they do business. |

Dont run... you will just die tired! |
If people "forget RL events in the span of months" they've never had anything in the moderate to serious range occur in their life. When you've invested several months *real life time* in something to have it completely destroyed, you're going to remember it. Especially since you were paying for the privilege of having it destroyed. I was damn upset when I got laid off from my job, I worked there for 86 real time days in a year (40hrs/week, 52 weeks.) I wasn't paying to goto work even though I enjoyed it. I played galaxies for almost near that amount of time before the nge (~20ish months if i remember right) and I was paying for that. So yes, I do consider it a rather significant thing to have something you've put that quantity of time into. Figure it this way, your hobby is woodwork... you build a beautiful bed frame for someone in your family. You spend 480 hours (20 days-- 1/4th the time I spent in galaxies) total carving, sanding, polishing, building, and just generally getting it exactly the way you want it and how you know they'd love it. While you goto the store someone comes and saws all the long boards in half, unjoins everything without causing any serious destruction, and randomly changes the carvings into things you hate, basically forcing you to redo almost everything from the ground up... are you going to be angry? Now imagine the person who did it was standing there going "well i don't understand why you're upset... but i wont have any part of fixing it." and then a couple years down the road comes up to you and says, "I don't see why that upset you it was no big deal it was just your hobby." Gee, I really don't understand why someone would be upset about someone destroying all the time they put into something. Can't understand it. Why oh why would someone be upset about something they dump thousands of hours into being gutted and destroyed... /sarcasm Smed is such an idiot. |

Most of the bloggers or podcasters that think we should blow off what happened have met or talk to Smedley. I just can't see why they won't release a classic server as is. |
