G'day

I was reading through the updates for Issue 12 and saw this...

Character Origin Missions (Hero and Villain)

Where did Origins come from? How are they connected? How long have they existed?

..What does this mean in the game? are there any new Missions built around this or what's it about?

Thanks in advance

It's a non-fighting story arc. "Go talk to Positron about Tech origin." "Go talk to Manticore about Natural origin."

If you care about backstory, this fills in a bit of explanation on what the different origins are supposed to mean. And it's customized a bit to your character, so if you are Tech the tech contact will acknowledge that in conversation.

Personally I think it would have been better if the information was available before creating a character in the first place. (I know I have more a few toons where, due to the order of selection, the "origin" is a complete clash with the concept.) But there's no harm in it.

If you're curious, the whole arc only takes a few minutes to run, and the hero version leaves from Croatoa. (I forget the v-side start.)

The villain-side contact is Amanda St. Peters, or whatever her name is. The same contact as the villain-side Midnighter contact.

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.

Bob the Cat says,
"Keep your password secret, you filthy communist."

The missions are new, but origins have been around for all of CoX's lifespan.

Basically, your character's origin is precisely that.  When you roll up a char on CoX, you pick the origin of their superpowers.  I went for the supercop deal with one of my chars, for instance.  He had this armor which gave him all kinds of abilities.  So I made him a tech blaster.

Like Ironman would be tech origin, the X-men would be mutation origin, the Hulk would be science origin.

In practice, origin only used to affect what kind of enhancements you could use.  It was to give enhancements a bit more flavor and have them make more sense, since they could tailor the names and descs to each origin.

Origin has more effect blue (hero) side than it does red (villain) side.

Blue side your origin would determine your initial villain group you'd face.  As an example Natural heroes would be fighting Council (used to be Fifth).  My scrapper was Magic, so he went up Circle a lot early on.

The origin mission is a nice for lore reasons.  At the end you get a badge that is required for other badges.
