More like WAR rips off LOTRO's deed system then WOW rips off both.

Warhammer
Alliance

Folks get real, these games are all copying simple pen and paper.  It's not like any of them created the idea of recording information in a readable form.

You cannot rip off the idea of record keeping, since it's existed for thousands of years, that's all it is an interactive journal.

Your tears sustain me.

Depending on the implementation it will either be like Xbox live, LotRO, or WAR.  It is just Blizzard making sure they are not lacking an addictive feature for their game.  If this system is not retroactive there will be a huge outcry of vets who are denied achievements because they are already level 70.

I don't see how this could be retroactive though as Blizzard would either have to already be tracking all the info or would have to manually go back and read all the logs for 10mil subs for the last 4 years.  I don't think they have been tracking everything up to this point as it was not in the original idea and wasn't worth the man power in the begining.

This is just competition.  I don't play WoW anymore, but you can't fault them for adding ideas that work in other games.  It is like calling someone a copy cat for lighting a match since fire was discovered millenia ago.

Why So Serious?

It doesn't surprise me...honestly Wraith of the Lich king is pretty much one giant rip off of Aoc & War Mechanics.  The difference between WoW & everyone elses's system is theirs will probably be Required to complete for certain things lol while WAR's is completely optional.

WAR's tome of knowledge isn't just some RPG mechanic btw...I don't remember EVER playing a PnP game that gave you titles & achievements for killing or dying X number of times lol.   The Achievement system from MMOs did NOT come from Pen & Paper games.

WAR's ToK is based on im sure yes Lord of the Ring's Achievement system (not the horrible grind X skill X times for a better versoin system thank god) and the XBoX live Achievement system.   Its just a fun PvE thing that also encorporates the entire rest of the game.  Maps, Quest Logs, Achievements, Titles, Records of Notable places you've been and characters you've met etc etc.  No other MMO logs that Much player Information.  Not even EQ2's EQPlayer's system logs some of the stuff the ToK does.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

Why innovate when the rest of the industry can do it for you.  This isn't suprising at all. They haven't been innovative since day 1, why start now.

Another reason to despise Blizzard.

Another feature they shamelessly rip off, dumb down and gloss over.

And they bother to do it only when forced to by the competition. Now they can blurb "We've got world PvP, sieges and achievements too!" on the box even though it is all skewed to provide maximum addiction and minimum fun.

They could have added achievements and titles a long time ago - it really is such a simple thing to add that would increase enjoyment of the game. However they simply didn't bother until now when faced by some serious competition.

I realized quite a long time ago that Blizzard actually loathes its customers and considers them as cattle to be lead by the nose. "Sticks and Carrots". Meh...

You can either agree with me or be wrong!

Lol get over yourselves guys. It's not like the ToK isn't a copy of LotrO and CoH but with improvements.

But I guess crying shame on Blizzard for continuing the trend is easier to join together in on this forum ;)
