uk.pc.ign.com/articles/878/878496p1.html "As for the content, things seem to start to tail off in terms of solid quest lines and more engaging content once you hit 40. In the Field of the Dead, the game's zone for those between 40 and 50, things start off at a decent clip with a few quests near the zone's beginning, but then seem to sputter to a slow crawl, offering only a few tasks and meager rewards. Compared to the polished level 1 through 20 experience in Tortage and large number of quest chains available in the 20 to 40 zones, Field of the Dead doesn't really stack up. Leveling is still entirely possible through grinding as downed mobs around your level give out pretty good experience bonuses, but opportunities to gain quest experience rewards that can so quickly propel you along the leveling curve seem to dry up. Without the strength of the narrative threads present in the 20 to 40 zones, the game turns into more of a chore to play."
or is IGN just trolling AoC too?
when a major gaming site described a game as a "chore to play", you can be sure there are issues.
let's see what the fanboys say about this one, should be amusing... |

/sigh shills the cancer of the internet. Silly he said "more of a chore". Couple points I'm hardly a fanboi I was in beta but decided not to buy because too many irons in the fire. IGN has said basically the same thing about aspects of every major MMO out there, so please stop rubbing your hands with glee because you perceive that your nerd rage has some legitimacy |

Can I just point out that by using the phase "more of a chore" they are basically stating that the entire game is a chore... |

I just hit 50. Took me about 48 hours to do the 10 levels between 40 and 50, in Fields of the Dead.
49 to 50 was the one that took the longest time, since i ran out of quests. So i had to grind my way all up to 50. And now i moved on to the next zone.. But it looks like i have to grind a lot more, since i only found 3 new quests so far. Which are all red to me, in my quest log. Either i cant find it, or else are there missing a lot of 49+ quests. |

Originally posted by xaviondk You know that the Tarantia Noble District has quests in this range also.. Quite a bit of them and it's a really fun zone. I got to level 51 through the Field of the Dead and the Noble District fairly quick. I never once had to grind. 40-51 took me around 8-10 hours or so but I was spending a lot of time helping my guild build up our city. I'm now in the mountains and level 52, and I still have a full quest log. I do agree that Destiny Quests have fallen off though. I still think there is enough content up to 52 hands down. I think people are complaining because you actually have to look for it. Many successful MMO's are not quest based. They are entirely grind based. Actually WoW is the only one I know that is almost entirely quest based and grinding is still faster. (Forgot LoTR) What are you comparing this too? I mean you act like it's the worse MMO because you haven't been able to quest or maybe because you just aren't good at the game? So far I think there is plenty of content, but they need to polish the crap out of it in areas, and then maybe adjust rewards in certain areas. |

Originally posted by mbd1968 Okay no, I think the review is using the phrase as "more of a chore [than a game]." He wasn't saying that the game is even more of a chore once you hit 40, but rather that the game seems like a chore as opposed to a game. Besides, how can you trash this guy? He's basically re-stating what I've been hearing about AoC from... everyone, regardless of their opinion of the game in general. The notion that content slows down after level 40 is not a subjective statement. |

Originally posted by ProfRed I also did all the quests in that district.. But i guess that since i skipped a few of the early quests, i have been a step behind on the XP. Actually i did all the quests in every single zone. My quest log only got a few quests left in Field of the Dead, a couple of red group quests in the Noble District, and 2-3 quests in the new mountain area.. And from what i can see on the main map, that mountain area is the only area for 50 - 60. PLEASE correct me if im wrong, since the mountain area really lacks some solo quests. |

Originally posted by vinzone Can you check your total playtime? Maybe it didnt take exactly 48 hours, but it felt like it. I was level 40 this friday. And just hit 50 a few hours ago. Been playing almost without break, only a few hours of sleep. Its actually sad if you think about it. |

Originally posted by mcburly IGN is recommending the game, plus who's saying that IGN has monopoly on the truth. There's a shitload of other reviewers giving the game a score around 90%. The interesting part is also that all the reviewers are giving AoC a deduction for simple bugs. Bugs which will be gone in a relatively short time. |

Originally posted by tkreep /played is more accurate then Xfire. Xfire also count played time on alts or character that was deleted because someone don't want to play them. lol I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention. |

Originally posted by Zorndorfsadly the more serious reviews will be decried as biased because the reviewer is a WAR fan. Though I agree, the best reviews come from those not affiliated to sponsors and they tend to get thier hands a bit more dirty when they review a game, not just skim over the first few levels and give it a gold star. |

Honestly, I think this review is fair. There is a serious lack of content, either absent or broken. But there's quite a bit of fun up to level 40 and maybe even 50. It takes a nosedive at eiphlogian mountains. The other major issues with the game is group mechanics, the UI, and poor dungeon design.
What aoc succeeds at is an enjoyable single player experience for the first 40 or so levels. after that, there's not much fun about the game other than trying other classes.
although, i have to admit, I'm enjoying building a guild city, but that will feel like a chore quickly as well. |

That childish little leet dude word refutes nothing, and reveals you for the mug you really are. Yes, it's been acknowledged before this IGN review that AOC was missing content in those area's so the level curve was not smoothed out properly. Funcom themselves have acknowledged this, and have stated in their latest announcement to us that the content to fill in those gaps is coming sometime in June. Nobody has been denying there's been fault in this area, so I dunno what point you're trying to make. |
