I can see it now...

Sony Online Entertainment announces:  EverQuest 3:  Norrath Gets Even

The new game will feature four iconic classes:

Fighter

Rogue

Mage

Healer

I guess that would be the tint my sometimes Anti-SOE glasses have.

Yes EQ2 is souless and very ugly. I can not believe anyone would think EQ2 has good graphics.

Thanks for proving my point further

In my opinion, the first 3 pictures look better, more realistic, more detail. Just over all better.

The armor on the horse looks good, but the armor the wolf guy is wearing looks painted on with no depth to it.

This is from Vanguard correct? I don't know what it is about that game, but the characters always look like they just don't belong there.

Yes, it's VG.  It's an old picture, with a low level player and generic armor set.  Maybe I can dig out a more recent pic.

everyone has diffirent opinions of everquest, and i've learned not to contest their beliefs, but merely state my own unbiased opinions...

the graphics of everquest 2 are fine, and at least its consistant, unlike everquest 1 having the worst setup team only fixing the old zones once every 2 months whereas they are always ruining game balance for money by releasing mostly pointless crack cocaine expansions which will be outdated every 3 months by a new expansion, so people who played since 1999 get outpowered by a 12 year old who has a rich mommy and daddy that got him all the expansions and boom a level 35 is stronger than a level 50...

EQ2 isn't perfect, but its way more consistant than everquest, so i think hopefully a EQ3 will be properly balanced and consistant as well such as EQ2, but what would they do?  what is left to do to the idea of everquest?  they are either going to completely butcher what was just barely breaking even decent.

and who cares about graphics anymore?  i hate WoW's graphics in so many ways, especially the excessive brightness and the fact that anything with a wheel on it is not round, its an abstract polygon...

i don't care about VG or AoC or whatever, i don't care about what frosting is on the cake, just as long as the cake is round.

EQ2 was not THAT bad of graphics, a little silly and i wish you had any color available for all races personally like in TES4, but i know they wanted to have their races within specific color ranges i guess...

anyway, i like many choices only when its relevent, i think its crap that there's over 15 races and classes in EQ2 but you can only have 4 characters PER ACCOUNT...  whereas i had like 6 or something chars per everquest server, but now you either have to delete a character that you absolutely don't want to use anymore, or i think you can buy extra slots or something in EQ2?  or at least i heard so, i don't actively play those games anymore, but since the latest expansions i'm going to try out EQ2 again.

for an EQ3, if i had some control over the project, i would bring back the idea of AAs from everquest, allow full custom colors for characters, bring back the vah shir race because "vah shir > kerra", i liked the harvesting and tradeskill system of EQ2, but there should be a time limit for how long you can have item loaded on your bazaar-trader-thing so people can't just have a giant ammount of junk they are offline for like a week, thats not fair.

first of all, some items should have a minimun value so we don't have everything at 1 copper cuz people are impatiently trying to get rid of their stuff.   some things should have a minimun value so newer people don't have to over drop and so everyone has a decent sale.

example would be like a level 15 ore of some sort, make it so it can't go under 15 c, so everyone who wants to put it up to sell has a chance to be chosen by whoever who needs to buy it.

the minimun should be in copper pieces times the level of the item, i think that would work out.

and you have to be logged onto that character within every 12 hours otherwise your selling items will discontinue being up on the broker?  i think its called broker, anyway, otherwise all people will do is over harvest and log out for days.

as for classes, i would like the original everquest ones back but with more even play balance but still retain a lot of old abilities while at the same time making new exciting ones  :-)

like feign death and stuff, what happend to that in EQ2?

and i think a more adult rated game should be implemented with a step back from the overly flush lush graphics, and more realism and blood gore.

i'm not asking for a violent pornagraphy, but just something a little less DragonForce and a little more Rhapsody of Fire...  lol, only people who know those bands will understand the anology, ;p

but yeah, i'm out of ideas atm, and this would take a team of like-minded people to even make a better game than whats already out, but personally i would think it would be cool on a different note, if bethesda and SoE made a Elder Scrolls MMO  ;)

I wouldn't anticipate there being an actual EQIII, for the mere fact that we saw the impact EQII had on the EQ player base. I would welcome an EQIII as an 'old school' player, however it would have to somehow fit in the EQ/EQII lore story line, could be a little complicated if not just plane contrite.

Has anyone heard or seen any news pertaining to EQIII?

In that second place, when you go to it by ship. I couldnt help but think I was apart of some jason and the arganaut scene, the giant rock cliffs that the boat passes by as just immaculate, I could hardly believe the depth that they brought, one of the coolest mmo exploring experienced Ive ever had and I was just randomly browsing around EQ2. Sadly there are so few players in the lowbie areas so its practically a single play game till I get to a high level, and even then its very tight knit and alot of them are pureley RP.

EQ2 deffinently has awsome places, anyone that calls it lame obviously doesnt like skydiving because it's too slow.

I don't care much for the Iksar or Kerra models.

Looking at the above pices of EQ2 and VG, I would have to say that the VG graphics are far superior to EQ2 graphics.
Now that SOE owns VG, I would say that if they decide to make an EQIII MMO then they would mostly model it after VG and then add in some components from EQ1 and EQ2.
I would like to see a world similar to VG in which it is semi-seamless. VG has "Chunks" which, IMO, makes it not quite seamless. However, VG doesnt allow for instances and I think that in todays market, a few Instances are required.

I hope there is a EverQuest 3, I think alot of people will play it. I also hope they have PvP right at the start. Not like EQ2 where they added it in after 2yrs.

Simple for me I played EQ1 when it was released when i was 10 years old and i was very anoying for the older player but i disagree an EQ3 should be aim at a totally adult market, and i played EQ2 when they put the pvp servers back on and its a good game i quit after a few months as i figured out girls where more important than games so dont know what it means that im now at this moment waiting for the 5hr patch to get me back in to the everquest 2 game. just really worried im gona be in empty zones and thats my one problem with EQ games the expantions come to fast the levels are to easy to get through dont miss hell levels tho.

If theres going to be a EQ3 set it before EQ and when they release it close down EQ and EQ2 the same day.

Pictures of EQ2 shows what I didn't like...

Hair looks like plastic. How hard is it to make better textures? :P

Tho, EQ2 should get props for having 3D facial hairs tho, and not just a texture

EQ2 was very well put together when you look at content and things to do....it was litterally forever.  In WoW, you lvl and then Raid, that's it...nothing more.....WoW is a kindergarden and EQ2 was college....and Vangaurd would have been graduate school........

Anyway, the society we live in now is totally different than it was ten years ago.  Now everyone, demands, not wants, but demandes instant gratification.....and if not, they rage and it is OK.  (Thank you hippy generation that is now in power and ruining this country).

So, you have to design a game that would feed this new mass of ppl who have computers or access to them.  Ten years ago, not everyone had computers, today......well, my youngest daughter has two (desktop and laptop).  There are many more younger kids out there today that want instant gratification.  I think that is why WOW did well, and it ran on everyones computer.

But, EQ3....I would love to see it not be so simple.  Let the lvling and questing stay like it is now but add some special or epic quests that were like the old quests in EQ.  Yes, that means the WOW kids will miss them but if they are in a mature guild or involved in the meta game, they will find out.  It might make things even exciting for them.   I say this as I am playing Aion and I read all the stupidity that comes accross the General chat channel....all the references to WOW and other ppl's mothers.  I can tell they are all ex-WOW kiddies by their attitudes.  However, they really like the look of the characters and the idea of flying (I got my vertical movement fix with CoX and CO) and they are being introduced to a little bit of grinding and actually hard work and dedication.  The requirements to lvl crafting are somewhat challenging to a player that played WoW and could just power through everything.  Many of these players complain but others tell them it is worth it.  Also, these players are being told about other MMOs that they have never played or heard of...WAR, AoC, LoTRO, EQ, EQ2 FFXI, AC2, UO and the list goes on.

I think Aion is actually preping these kids who are now growing up for a more challenging and eye opening MMO.  Like I said before, WOW is kindergarden...these kids are ready for some higher education....don't hand them crayons....go the opposite direction with EQ3.

BTW, I see EQ2 is still dumbing down for that player base....

No.

You want to see violence and blood., not everyone.

Personlally I have enjoyed playing EQ and EQII with my wife and children and would not touch an overly graphic game.

Lots of people like some blood or some way to show that an impact took place. Most games imply violance and death, so it is only natural to make it look a bit more real. Plus I also think most of us are mature enough to understand that the player is just going to respawn somewhere with no harm really done.

I would be perfectly fine with a check box in the settings that said "turn on blood and gore," this would make everyone happy. Then if parents complain that the game is too violent they should just watch their kids more and make sure the check box is not checked. Unless they try to put a parental code in the game that keeps it locked out, but then we would just be making parents lazier than they already are when it comes to parenting.

Consoles are the way to go.  PC gaming has been a dying breed for some time now.  Its too expensive to maintain a high end gaming PC to play the latest and greatest.  I mean I have seen several threads of people complaining about not wanting to upgrade their PCs anymore to play a certain game.  This will be eliminated by moving to consoles.

I don't see how this is an actual problem. I upgrade my computer maybe once every 3-5 years.. sure if you want the best graphics that's the case, but you're not going to get those graphics on a console, they are only good when they first come out. PC gaming isn't dying, how in the world can you say that? MMORPGs have over 20 million players ALONE. (which is a PC dominated genre..)

Not to bring up an old thread, but I think Everquest 3 would be the game to make right about now
