Quote: Isildur Potbs Lead designer.
This is the first public admission that FLS see the current red circle PvP mechanics are actively detrimental to Potbs. The first step to fixing this is changes to PvP battle invites in R1.5 " We don't intend to completely overhaul everything. We want to mitigate risk and reduce or eliminate rewards from 6 level 50's stomping a level 20 player. " DrewC |

It's nice to see they finally realized they can't stay financially secure by catering to the griefer crowd but I fear it might be too late for them. If they had made this post in the first month of the game it might have made a difference but from everything I've heard the population has dwindled too far to save this game. |

If FLS stay committed to their longterm plan of development, Pirates of the burning seas will be an eventual success, in the same way that eve started with low populations it will recover. In reality there is still not much competition for 1720's ship combat game out there yet. |

This might make me want to pick up a copy when they start to roll out the anti-ganking PVP rules and methods in whatever patch they plan to put it on. So what's the patching cycle like for Potbs in regards to weeks? |

That's all good - but how?
Whatever they do is a double edged sword. I am a PvPer and I don't like "ganking" - but as a PvPer and a Wargame Strategist in general I am also not 100% against "ganking"... Just not all the time. FLS could stop ganking tomorrow - just make all PvP instances 1 v 1! But, then everyone would just say "What's the point?" I will watch and see...

The words sound good so lets see how it translates hehe. That would be one problem dealt with if they manage it. If they add more content and depth to the game so that it occupies time in a fun way and not just with open sea grinding for more cash then it will be a game. So part one is realized now lets see what happens with the rest. Also I want to see how its made a reality because so far what I have seen has not changed much. (ship insurance does not reduce gankage only make it cheaper ..) |

Question, are the developers conducting a method of providing what those changes would be and asking for feedback from the community? Or are they going to make the changes, implement them into the server and then ask for feedback? (IE: ATF - After The Fact; already coded, so not much changes from feedback can be applied) |

| And that is why... Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness. |

It is too late for PotBS - that ship has already sailed. You simply cannot make the changes that game needs in live. I like FLS but they their naivety is going to be their downfall, some of us tried to tell them this was coming in closed beta but the vocal zealots shouted us down. I would also like to point out the SoE connection - SoE did allot to make the launch and distribution as terrible as possible. Mind you the game had issues unrelated to SoE that might have themselves been serious enough to cause the current criss but coupled with SoEs patching issues, terrible pre order handling, and incompetent distribution it was the final nail in the coffin. The only thing FLS can do is to lure who they have left into staying with tweaks and goodies and milk what subs they can before it all collapses. Perhaps they have enough cash to go for a while or maybe the SoE pass keeps them afloat - but I doubt it. FLS should have listened to the people warning them that 'no crying in the red circle' and the general gank or be ganked system was not going to fly in live, they should have listened to people telling them that SoE would cost them tons of people and many headaches, they should have listened to us telling them they had way to many launch servers, they should have merged that first month when it was painfully obvious they had to many servers, they should have not listened to all those telling them the shit didn't stink. They didn't - oh well, next project?
