I'm not sure if anyone remembers but Microsoft published a game a few years back called Freelancer, it was a great single player game very similar to the old Wing Comander: Privateer. I loved those games, do you think this game will have the same feel as those? |

Yes, JGE will have a very similar (but improved in many aspects) combat and economy system. Altho Freelancer rocked my socks off, the scaleing kept bothering me, but I know for a fact that Jumpgate has this covered, so keep your fingers crossed that the beta will be out soon :D |

The flight mechanic is very different compared to Freelancer. Other than that it is very similar. I can't wait to play in the beta |

I remember that game. I like "X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter", later it was "Wing Commander 3" and, a few year ago, "Freelancer" and "Darkstar One". I played a lot these games and I'm waiting for another one of this kind. |

I've been flying in Jumpgate Classic, and even then the only games that were comparable considering the size and feeling of freedom were the ones mentioned above.
From what I gathered so far on the official forums, from dev chats, etc. the mission system they planning to add will be exactly what I've missed in JGC.
But as probably mentioned a lot of times already, getting used to the newtonian flight-model is a complete different story |

Privateer the darkining, freelancer and wingcommander are the 3 games i have played the most. and may i say they ROCK. i am realy looking forward to JGE and will deffently buy it. i must say though, that i am not getting my hopes up, because i have been disapointet so many many times theese last few years, with all those WoW clones out there. But i´ll bet that this is the game that can change the game industry view on how an mmo needs to be..... I will buy it... |

No matter WHO you are, in Jumpgate you got a place, all you gotta do is create it! |

I've had Freelancer for years and I still haven't finished the game LOL I still got the saves, but a couple of time I had to start over and then had to get involve with other things. However, I played Jumpgate Classic first. I liked Freelancer, but I think the gameplay will be very different. I hate not using a joystick in FL. _________________ Jumpgate Evolution |

In that case I am turned off. I was a HUGE fan of freelancer's intuitive mouse/keybopard combat system and though I got both flight sticks and a joystick I always prefered Freelancer's mouse/keyboard setup over X3's joystick or Eve's overworld view. |

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

Originally posted by Ariolander I think which control style is appropriate depends on the rest of the game design. Freelancer had a combination of dogfighting and guns that could be angled away from the current flight direction by 30 degrees or so. The mouse aiming/steering was great for that, even if I tended to get a cramp in my index finger after a few hours. X2 (didn't play X3) had fixed guns, no aiming separately from the ship. In that case, you need something to control the flight as accurately as possible. Like a good joystick. And finally, EvE has way too much lag to be twitch-based, as well as a lot of larger ships that are not suitable for dogfighting. Actually, I think only the frigate class of EvE would be fun to play freelancer-style. |

Freelancer was such an awesome game. I've been looking for gameplay like that ever since. I can't believe there was never a Freelancer 2, but maybe the first wasn't that popular. Which is odd, since so many people who have played it have rave reviews. |

Ya I had just bought Freelancer when I moved into this apartment which was *ponder* like March of 2003. I still install and play it from time to time. I've always liked those types of games.. Way back to Elite on my C64. Wing Commander and Privateer were obviously games I enjoyed as well. Oh and of course Starlancer... |

Freelancer was a great game, but it didn't have alot of content so to speak and for some reason was dropped by the creators. Luckly the game was some what moddable, but it toke time for modders to figure it out and make good mods. I remember some of the first mods where terrible. They where pretty much just ship packs. Latter on some great mods came out that changed the game around for good, but saddly the game hasn't lasted. I am hoping the creators of JGE can see where Freelancer fell. It was a great game, but was just dropped and left for the modders who couldn't fully mod it anyway. ((Also I know JGE will not be made to be modded since it will be more like an MMO then freelancer was.)) |

Also there is two alternative flying modes aswell. Newtonian (like in Elite and Jumpgate Classic) and Dumpener Assisted (like in Freelancer) And you can switch them at will , creating interesting flying tactics

For Space Sim fans, I am shocked that not a single person has mentioned the Freespace series yet. Privateer and X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter were classics, and Freelancer was a great game, but both FS games, especially number 2, blow them all out of the water. I would kiss the feet of the Jumpgate devs and serve as their slave for 15 years if they can make the actual gameplay even a fraction as awesome as FS2. I still play that game on a regular basis, 10 years after release. "Kaneda! What...do you see?" |

I saw a game play video from E3. The game looks very similar to Freelancer. I bought Freelancer but never finished it because I could not complete one section of the game. I will have to reload and give it another try. An MMO based on Freelancer would be great. Its a shame that many old games (even with dated graphics) crap all over some of the new games released. I havent played a really good PC game for ages. They have all been shit.

Control likes FREElancer, yes, I will buy it. But but pls make sure the left mouse button of flight control goes to the right mouse button because it much easier to control than left mouse button and left button mouse uses for firing.Earth and Beyond flight controls are the best of all...if jumpgate has these, I will play it otherwise forget it. Also, dun makes mistake that EnB did before like a long long long wasting warp here and there...and many other problems...i cannot list much problems here, later and wait i got banned. I saw rats around.....before. HAHA these rats have poor investigation no wonder so many death innocent souls all file a complains to me. hahah........... I have a freelancer when they just debutted but the disc was mysteryly damaged so couldn't play for a long time until able to find a international seller from ebayer UK to deliver it for me to Singapore. And this is my 2nd pc of Freelancer. haha..your CSI sucks and only good in setting pple up and ruin their life! HA! pls dun try to be outsmart to answer whereever i go especially after my quene. haha |
