Good post, _Kyle_... too bad 80% of the people on here probably wont read it. No game is perfect when it is released, and absolutely NO MMOs are perfect at launch. You CANNOT test every single aspect of an MMO while it is in production... that is impossible, even if you did have the time and budget to do so. The real tests come when thousands and thousands of people all log into the game at the same time and begin going on their own way through the game. When problems inevitably show up, these need to be fixed as soon as possible. At least Funcom is doing this during normal working hours this time, instead of peak playing time, so no one in the U.S. should be complaining. Besides, it's the first day after the REAL launch. Since most of you probably just started playing MMOs anyways, I'll give you a recent example: WoW. The game was unplayable, literally, for the first few days. That is why all of us who had accounts at launch have several free days given to us because of how terrible the launch was. Yet now, no one seems to remember that. That's how this miniscule downtime will appear in the weeks to come. |

Originally posted by Wharg0ul It's not hard. They based everything they do off GMT. They've already said they do. Thus mid day for some. Early day for some. Late day for some. Early morning for some. Late night for some.
It's fair in all respects as far as I'm concerned. You can't please everyone. So don't try to. Companies that base all actions purely on lets say EST. Screws EVERY other time zone. So is that fair? Nope. No method is fair. So they chose GMT, which would reflect on everyone as equally as possible. Besides this time of day folks are still working and kids are just getting out of school. Most MMOs focus on morning time zones due to their target audience being children. It wouldn't help them if their target audience was stuck waiting for 2hrs or more after school correct? Most working people get off around 4-6pm. Thus the times seam justified.
Originally posted by Skidel1It's possible I wasn't even included you in what I had to say. My post was a generalization to the people who fit my post. You on the other hand do not. If you feel as if I'm targeting you or "out to get you" then perhaps you are a part of the post and should, as well, grow up. It's wonderful that you make assumptions of my life and that it bears any meaning on my experiences or my understanding of life. i'm 20 years old and live in my parents basement paying rent. Does this mean I live with mommy and daddy? I suppose. I pay rent as if I lived on my own, but at a fair price and have triple the space of said apartment. Sad? Maybe. Smart? Definitely. It's ok if you have lost time with your family. It's tragic and sad, but I however am enjoying my time with my family. Thank you though for your observation. BTW, Please don't forget to remove those phone taps and watch out for the man in a black suit around every corner. That paranoia will get you. |

What do you most games have different clients for Europe and US so basing it on EST is only for US servers and patches are implemented in the morning to noon EST in other MMOs i played. |

Originally posted by Wharg0ul I understand were you're comeing from. I also don't agree with their time zone structure, but this is a choice they've made for whatever reason they can fabricate. As said though. At these times the adults are still working. Where is in the morning they have a bit of spare time then later in the day they have spare time.
We must remember the target audience folks.
Originally posted by Darkheart00While this IS true depending on the target audience as I've underlined in my previous post. Those games are designed with teenager mentality. Thus patching during after school hours is not wise. The working class isn't generally home at this time. They often have time in the morning and later in the day.
You just need to take a step back and consider their reason for picking such a time frame. It could have even been a spur of the moment thing. Or perhaps they just want to fix the game for us as soon as possible. |

Originally posted by Wharg0ul Did you even read what Funcom posted? An URGENT update is not something that can be held off for the convienence of a very small audience. Most Americans are at work until at least 4pm, but generally until 6pm. They wont even notice that there was a downtime, but they will notice a patch.
It's the second day. Stop complaining like a bunch of little kids who didn't get to stay up past 9pm to watch Barney. Grow up... seriously. I'm truly sorry the world does not revolve around you... but that's the cold hard truth. |

I am pretty sure its not targeted to the teen demographic. If you ask i think they are just lazy devs, rather than hire a team for US and other region specific servers or Outsource to India they are just doing it themselves from Norway in their local times. |
