I mean seriously? What's the point?

It is just annoying that you have to press all 3 buttons for the exact same effect.

Combos - no point either.

How about we just get more diverse special abilities?

Like you used one ability, the other will be available.

The combat just doesn't make sense.

thats why when I finally get on Im rolling a healer (for the first time in my MMO life). Otherwise I may try a necromancer.

Melee combat with that odd directional stuff doesnt appeal to me either

2 reasons why

1 to get combo attacks with a fatality at end

2 to make it harder for ingame bots to farm

Correct me if I'm wrong, but BOT farmers rarely use more than 1 melee character and the rest are usually casters. Cause it doesn't matter what game your playing, trying to play more than 1 melee character at the same time is off the charts ridiculous.

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

The point of the directional attacks, is to enhance the individual player skill. Because if it weren't for the directional attacks, I'd say the combat would feel similar to CoX. Reason being, is because in CoX you use special attacks on recharge, as you do here (atleast I do, since I'm an assassin), and then you just hit the attack button, and damage is random. In AoC, if you choose a shielded direction, you will do less damage than an exposed direction.

This is the first MMO I've played Since WoW, that I've been impressed with. This game feels complete, and it's a smooth game, with a twist on the combat system.

PRE-CU STILL LIVES!

further into the game, once you understand the tactics and strategy embodied in the combat system, you would understand.

Who do you think is going to have more of an advantage in combat...someone who comes at you swinging wildly with their weapon, or a trained swordman, who plans his attacks, opens up your defense, and then makes his strike?

AoC combat takes skill. You COULD spam directional attacks wildly, but you would die frequently, and quickly become frustrated.

Learn to watch your opponant's defenses (those little white brackets around them). Hit the weak spots....or if you want to open them up for a particular combo, feint to the other side to make them open themselves up for that combo to actually land.

It starts off simple at early levels, and slowly layers complexity as you go.

By level 30, understanding how, when, and where to swing means the difference between life and death.

I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"

I feel the same way as you man, the directional attacks simply seem like a hassle to me,  when it comes right down to it if your in a fast paced intense battle with someone 9 out of 10 times are you going to button mash those directional attacks instead of taking the time to look for "weak spots"......

I can see where analyzing you opponent will take skill and i dont know about lvl 80 pvp, and  if your oppenent has a shield (Guardian, ToS, Dark Teamplar ect.) i can see that hitting around it will help, but for all those classes without one, let the mash fest begin.

and you will die. Over and over again, to those who bother to learn to fight.

I see the same thing in my RL martial arts class. The people who fight like children wildly swinging everywhere get their asses kicked and quit.
