I've downloaded the client and todays patch but when i've pressed on play (to watch the intro video) i just get a black screen (although i do get a pointer and music). I updated my drivers to the latest version (i have a GeForce 8600GT) and it is still black. Anyone else experiencing this or have any tips? |

Try running the client again on Saturday at 1pm eastern time ;-)

I'm not done my download yet, but I had this bug in Open Beta. Run the SimpleSettings exe in the game folder and uncheck fullscreen. Then run the game again, the black screen error should be gone. Then change the setting back to fullscreen from the ingame options and you should be all set from that point on. Something doesn't initialize correctly for some people and the manual change seems to reset things properly. |

This happened to others before but all you have to do is go to the settings before you start the game and uncheck fullscreen. Than it will show up fine in window mode and all you have to do is go to settings and put it back on fullscreen mode. You will only have to do this once. |

Go to the game folder and find a file called simple config. Run this and select DX9. Your client should now run fine. DX10 isn't a part of this client yet so trying to run it with DX10 produces the black screen and stuttering of the sound. DX10 should be in by launch day but no guarantee. |

the first time you launch AoC, start it in windowed mode, and go to full screen from within the game. You will also need to do this if you ever delete your /prefs folder, which I do after major patches to get rid of potential glitches. (that and deleting shader.cache.local) DX10 client is supposed to be on the retail DVDs, so don't bother with that for early access.
