What The Hell? |
Just wanted to say this: If you got crafting in your game and npc that sell same stuff then you need to take crafting out of your game because it is not needed.
Only way crafting is fun and needed is if that is the only way to get inn game money AND items. If you got mobs that drop good item and money, then crafting is pointless and BORING!

MMORPG Character Monuments ...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest... |
Well, to the context of the post. There are certain games in which crafting is more rewarding that others. Certaintly its true that you want your item to be worthwhile, however it does not have to be the uberest. A lot of games now do niche itemization. It is usually in this scheme that crafters and raiders coexist well |

Originally posted by weg886I agree from a personal viewpoint cause i am a niche type of mmorpg player and truly love crafting, the more complex the better, but disagree knowing that crafting is still something for the niche, which means a game in order to be succesfull ( with succesfull i talk about games that cost milions and need revenue's of millions to atleast call it even) Overall the masses in this genre ....these day.... (unfortunaly)agree with OP as most find crafting simply pointless and boring. |

I think that if you're going to put crafting in a game, there should be a different way of doing it. Such as if you're going to make an item, it should never be a lower quality that what you can buy from a NPC at that level. It should sell for more than the NPC's item sells for (somewhat for those who hate auctioning and want to make back a little of the money they put into crafting it) and there should be a different type of experience placed into games these days. My true thought: Put items in the game that give extra experience or abilities to crafting such as a hammer that has to be crafted but raises the crafting of your items by using it. Here's an example: If a blacksmith makes his own hammer (+5% to crafting), tongs (+5% to crafting) and forge (+5% to crafting). When using these items to make other items he would get a 15% bonus to the experience gained from those items as well as a 15% increase to the items base stats or bonus stats. Here's the kicker, to get the bonus it would have to be a hammer, tongs and forge that HE MADE AND ONLY HE GETS A BONUS FROM. No more store bought bonuses. You build your profession instead of buying it. So, by using it, you get extra experience toward your crafting. This would not only keep crafters from making constant useless items, but getting experience not only from the items they make but by using the items they make hence truely making characters that would move into a crafting profession instead of taking up a side profession that helps to make only end game gear. Just my two cents.. -Timberwolf |

I played a game once where most of the best items were crafted, but people cried and said it was unfair so they changed that. Now things that are crafted cost 1000 times more but are all exactly the same stat wise, but no one is complaining, go figure. |

Crafting items DO need to have either a bonus in some way or customisation type additons whether that be colours, combinations or bonuses to be usefull.
I love crafting, but that's mainly because I like to play the markets in MMOs and ultimately I like to make lots of money and/or have unique items. If I can't make anything unique or make money from crafting then I wouldn't bother with the grind that is usually involved.

Crafting in a game should be your job. And the only way to make money. |
